They are 17 games under .500, but they are only 5 games back with more than half of the season to play.

Easily. If anybody answers no, they're either a Knicks fan or criminally insane.

Yes but I would give more of the credit to Chauncey than Melo.

Looking at this trade, I really can't envision this Nets being a title contender.

I can see them making the playoffs, it's the East for crying out loud.

Have you seen the records in the NBA this season, hell yes they will.

I picked no. But only because I think they are 12 games under right now?

EDIT: They are 17 games under...

^^^ Then again, you only need to win 33 games to get into the playoffs in the East.

they would be a playoff team looking at the roster, but I'm not sure if they would make it this year or not...

they are only 5 back of 8th with philly, bucks, raps, detroit, and the bobcats ahead of them. they are only 5.5 back of indiana for 7th.

Are you guys insane? They're five games out and they're in the ****ing East. This New Jersey losing-stench really has traveled far, come the **** on.

the East is so pathetic this year excluding HEAT, Magic, Celtics, Bulls, and the Knicks. They can easily finish in the remaining three slots if the trade goes though (imo).

The nets are only 5 games from the 7th or 8th spot. So playoffs isn't a far reach.

or he can wait a few more months and sign with the team he wants to go to.. and be a title contender for the next 4 years with the knicks..

the east is actually strong this year compared to past years. there are 6 really good teams this year. the 5 you named and atlanta.

Yes, because of Chauncey, who can actually lead a team.

I knew I was missing someone. Thanks. :)

You're right, but the other two spots are wide open, and that Nets team can squirm in there.

not to go off-topic, but the trade doesn't really make any sense, except for Denver.

Yes it does. It makes basketball sense for the Nuggets, money-saving sense for the Pistons and business sense for the Nets.

+1 but that first statement is the reason why I can say I don't see him going to the Nets. Melo wants to be on a contender not a over the hill version of the Nuggets!

Is this a serious question of course their going to the playoffs if billups stay, now i wonder if billups leaves i wonder who he will sign with.. im sure it'll be a mid-level deal.. he might go to the lakers??? perfect fit i think

yes and likely could end up with the 5/6 seed.

the post trade nets lineup would be better than the current nugget lineup.... so yes

The third option should read "No: Chauncy ain't going to New Jersey." Billups already stated that he would seek a buyout after the trade, and that he wants to retire in Denver and work in the front office. He's even willing to help them rebuild.

Chauncey, Rip, Melo, and Brook Lopez is a real nice startinf 4 of 5

"Chauncey's hesitation to go to NJ not a factor. Billups will get full $14 mill next season from NJ. That was his main concern."

No, because chauncey wants a buy-out if traded to the Nets. So that pretty much means no trade...

I don't see Melo signing an extension with the nets.....thus making the trade a bad move on the Nets behalf. They should just rebuild and make a pitch at him when he becomes a FA in the summer.

Well......every trade makes sense from the "eye of the beholder"

I just don't see how this team can make a push against the Elite teams, and this whole time Melo has been declaring he wants to go to a team that can achieve a title. very unlikely (imo)

I really don't see the trade going though personally.

he probably wants to achieve a title... just because he goes to a team and doesnt win that season makes it a failure? im pretty sure he has alot of years left to try and win a title and why not do it with a team that has flexibility

1). He does want to achieve a title (who doesn't?)

2). They are giving away their future if this trade follows through. I'm not even looking at this season, I'm looking at the future, and this team still doesn't look strong enough to contend for a title in the future.

If I'm Carmello, and I want to win a title, I'm shaking my head at the chances with this deal.

I wonder if Denver is waiting long enough in order to make the pick valuable.

01-10-2011, 07:19 PM
playoffs I guess, contenders not at all...

I never understood the reason the nets are dying so much for Melo, their front offiice is really not doing a good job. They will have Melo surrounded with players way worse then what Denver had around him.... The time it will take to bring in a decent supporting cast is going to take really long or with a few bad mistakes is not going to happen (see cleveland...)

I wonder if Denver is waiting long enough in order to make the pick valuable.

That was always my thought on the entire situation. If they wait until closer to the deadline, the Nets would surely make their record even worse, and Melo + Rip + whoever else would have to work a lot harder to get out of the lottery. If they could get Favors and a lottery pick out of Jersey it's a great deal.
