You can choose from any current players. Must use players at positions they currently play, for example: no picking Westbrook and using him as a SG. Take playing styles and chemistry into consideration.

Here's mine:

PG: Rajon Rondo
SG: Kevin Martin
SF: Kevin Durant
PF: Kevin Love
C: Dwight Howard

Rondo is the best pure PG in the league and would have a field day distributing to Dwight and KD. Love is the best rebounder and Dwight is no slouch in that department either. Love is a great 3 point shooter for his PF position and Kevin Martin is a great shooter also. Those 2 guys spreading the floor for KD and Dwight to work with Rondo running the show would be unstoppable IMO. Pretty solid defensive team also.

PG: Chris Paul

I went with a different look... You've got the three headed monster of Paul/LeBron/Dwight... All probably the best defensive player at their positions. A great perimeter defender in Battier who you can't leave open from downtown, but doesn't take shots away from the big three. A tireless rebounder and worker in Love who has range to spread the floor but also doesn't need the ball to be effective on offense.

Bosh averaging 20/10 in last 20 games and he has the highest Defensive rating in the team. His jumpshot is deadly. And he outplays every PF right now, except for Dirk maybe. It's clear that you don't watch Heat at all and tell me things like that.

But you know and I thought I better put Kevin Garnett, who is best defensive PF in the league on that team over Bosh as soon as he is not injured.

the Heat look to have finally settled and gelled, and have won 19 of last 20...Bosh is averaging 20/10 over the last month and a half as a 3rd option...maybe you should start watching some Heat games

KG was my second choice. I don't want to sound like a homer or oversell Varejao....how do i put this.....Varejao has younger, quicker legs and his defense is on a high level wherever he is on floor. He can step out and guard the perimeter with more efficiency than KG and there is no history of injuries.....not to mention the ego factor. If KG was couple years younger, no question, KG is the guy.

Rose
Ray Allen
Durant
Noah
Howard

Coach- Thibs

Rose- Can drive, can kick to allen or durant in corner. Anytime he misses off the iron in the lane they are perfect tip/tip-dunk balls

Ray Allen- Doesn't need the ball in his hand to score. Can catch and shoot the best in the game.

Durant- Score at will. Long arms. its durant nothing more

Noah- Bring energy rebound, possibly one of the best players at effecting the outcome of the game without scoring. You need that on a team with Rose-Allen-Durant as your backcourt.

Howard- Rebound, Tips, Tip Dunks, blocks, defense.

This team would be nasty. Score from anywhere on the court. Play great post defense. Noah is a C but gets to play PF this year so I placed him at PF. This team would be the hardest to score against in the lane and coached by Thibs would help bring more defense out of the 1-3. Not too much scoring like a lot of these other teams but enough between Durant Rose and Allen. Favorite thing about this team is their killer instinct. Rose Allen Durant all make big shots. Noah only cares about winning. Durant only cares about winning. Rose only cares about winning. Dwight Hoawrd only cares about laughing lol we'd need that on the team!

Kobe can barely co-exist with his team now, putting him with another superstar is just dumb.

Rondo - When healthy, has played the best all around PG game in the NBA this year.

Wade - Can score at will. With Kobe seemingly slowing down a bit, Wade sure looks like the best 2 guard in the league.

LeBron - The best all around player in the NBA. Better passer and defender than Durant.

Dirk - The perfect shooter to compliment LeBron and Howard. Won't clog the paint.

Howard - Best C in the NBA. Rondo and LeBron would give the ball to D12 in such amazing fashion that he would average 30 a game on dunks alone.

Coach - Popovich

Elite scoring, passing, defense, and transition game. LeBron, Rondo, and Wade running a fast break would be the most unfair situation a defender can possibly dream of.

well, its starts with Defense, so lets start with the DPOY, Dwight howard at C.

With that said, he needs a PG who can both score and get him the ball, alot of poeple will expect me to say rose, but sorry, CP3 has to be the guy

to compliment them both, you are looking for a SF who can score. I dont consider Dwight or CP3 to be game closers, so I would have to put Carmelo anthony in.

with SG and PF to fill, I look for guys who are role players, but still compliment the other guys well. at PF, I am thinking Lamarcus Aldridge, while, not a go to scorer, he is playing 4th fiddle. his range and size could come in handy.

and so we are left with SG, if he played SG, I would say Kirk hinrich, not a flashy pick, but he would be a defensive man on the perimiter that this team would need. but, last time I checked, he plays PG, at least, untill wall gets back. so if he is out, I would go with Rudy fernandez, not nearly as good of a defender, but an off the ball player who is also a play maker in himself.

so my starting 5 would look like

CP3
Rudy ( or Kirk If allowed )
Melo
Aldidge
Dwight.

Whao!!!! 6 pages in an no mention of Pau Gasol. I bet if the thread was started a month an a half ago he would have been on quite a few lists. Anyways here's my list.

PG: Chris Paul (Most versatile PG in basketball)
SG: Dwyane Wade (Best SG on both side of the ball)
SF: LeBron James (Best SF on both sides of the ball)
PF: Pau Gasol (most balanced PF in the NBA, extremely unselfish)
C: Dwight Howard (The epitome of what/who a defensive anchor should be)

I was tempted to go against the "Super Team" but in all honesty I think that may be the way to go. I know I may not have any pure shooters but with the open looks LeBron and Wade may start getting their shooting games will become even more efficient. Imagine the kind of foul trouble the opposing team's would get themselves into with Wade, LBJ and Howard.

Very similar to mine. You went Chris Paul / Kevin Martin and I went Steph Curry / Wilson Chandler. Don't you think it'd be better to find a shooting PG who can play off the ball and a SG who can finish in transition? That plays RIGHT into LeBron's and Dwight's strengths.

jtsunami
01-07-2011, 11:13 AM
If you have Lebron on your 5, then you will likely need low- to mid-usage players surrounding him because Lebron runs the offense so often. So to be truly effective, your PG and SG will need to be excellent off the ball players. That takes out Rondo, Rose, Westbrook, Nash, Deron, CP3, etc. All those players would definitely make for an elite team, but it wouldn't be as efficient as it could be.

For me, I would have Lebron because he is the best player in the league and Dwight because he's a monster.

PG Steph Curry
SG Ray Allen
SF Lebron James
PF Kevin Garnett
C Dwight Howard

Couldn't decide on PF. I wanted a PF who could knock down mid range shots to prevent clogging the lane. But also a good defender. I'd take KG because of his defense, but his health concerns me. Blake Griffin is tempting, but he's too similar to Dwight. Kevin Love makes sense, but he's a butcher on D. Besides KG, there aren't really any great PFs who are good on D and have a good mid-range shot. Dirk is too high of USG%. Bosh is awful and weak on D. Amare same thing. Boozer same thing. I might be tempted to pick Millsap.

Durant

Paul is the best PG in the NBA, currently shooting 45% from three and can defend. He can run with anybody and can score if needed. Awesome floor vision.

Kobe, proven winner, will take and make big shots down the stretch. He's hit a rough spot, but so has the entire Lakers team. Honestly, in your heart of hearts is there any way you would bet against this guy in the playoffs? I wouldn't. Better leader as he's gotten older, see Redeem Team.

Durant, hard to defend due to his size. He's rebounding better. Leads the league in scoring. Career 35% three point shooter.

Pau and Howard - Both unselfish. Pau is a great passer and an underrated defender. He can hit the mid range jumper to extend the defense. Howard the best defensive big in the NBA. Offensive game is limited, but he's surrounded by so much talent, he wouldnt need to be a 1 option.

For a "realistic team" that could actually exist in the NBA. I would like to see something along the lines of:

Felton
Kobe
Butler
Pau
Chandler

And D-Wade, James, and Dwight could all share the lane and co-exist??? IMO you have to either take away Dwight or take away LeBron or Wade and replace with a pure shooter...

Yes.

Those are IMO the best players at every position. Great players find a way to make it work. Dirk & Paul are 40%+ 3PT shooters. LeBron is decent at 35% as well.

Steph Curry- Excellent shooter/Ball handler opens up the Lane for Wade and Lebron to slash
Wade- Prolific Scorer/Ball handler Great wing defender
Lebron- best player in the world
Dirk - I thought of putting Gasol but he and Howard are both Post players and would Clog the lane. Dirk is another excellent shooter who can pass and open up the lane
Howard - Dominant Defender ala Bill Russell/ Post game has dramatically improved(aswell as shooting jumpers) each yr and important during playoffs.

Unstoppable, unbeatable team.

Not neccesarily the best players in each position as I tried to make their strengths to complement one another. Defensively, Howard, Paul, and Wade are very good defenders for their respective positions and are great at making defensively plays that can trigger the fast break.

In transition, Paul, Wade, and Durant, and Howard are all relatively fast with respect to the positions that they play and are all capable finishers around the basket. Dirk would be effective as a trailer that can hit the open jumpshot when defenders collapse on transition.

In the halfcourt, defenders cannot leave any one of them open as they are either great spot up shooters, cutters, or finishers after receiving a lob pass. This allows them to have enough spacing to execute isolation or screen and roll/pop plays effectively.

Though about Cp3 or Rondo over D. Will, but I just like his size (over Paul) along with the 3pt capabilities (which this team would be slightly short on running Rondo/Wade/Lebron). Duncan's the most proven winner in the league, and will do all the necessary things and make all the necessary plays to put this team well ahead of people starting defensive liabilities like Love or Amare. D. Howard makes up for any extra paint protection that may be lacking with Duncan's slight decrease in quickness and post dominance.

I'm convinced that team wins the title over any other you could make. Elite defense, proven winners and a veteran presence at every position with 4/5 being in their max-prime.

And you have no defense except for LeBron and Dwight basically.

Chris Paul - Defense, 3PT Shooting, Playmaking
Dwyane Wade - Defense, Slashing, Fast breaks, playmaking, rebounding, clutch
LeBron James - Defense, Slashing, Fast breaks, playmaking, rebounding, clutch
Kevin Garnett - Defense, Spacing the floor, Great Jumpshot
Dwight Howard - Defense, Finishing at the rim, Rebounding, Blocking and sending LeBron, Wade and Chris Paul to fast breaks for easy points, alley opps all day long.

Just ****ing imagine how good this team will be at defense, just unstoppable.
And defense on this team turns into offense easily.

Only major problem I see is how do Duncan and Howard Co-exist in the post. When Duncan played with David Robinson it worked because they weren't both low-post players. DR could work the mid-range game and for whatever reason, they complimented each other perfectly. Duncan is decent in the mid range game but he does most of his work down low in the post. Howard lives in the post and although he has worked a lot on his offensive game, he still has a long way to go until hes in the Duncan, Dirk, Gasol category.

I would much rather have Dirk or a healthy KG paired up with Dwight.

I thought about the Duncan-Dwight-Lebron frontcourt but Duncan (same with Allen) is getting to old for my taste. I'd rather go with Pau with his 15ft hook shots.

And I like Wade, but prefer to go with a shooter, especially with Lebron, Duncan and Howard all enjoying their time in the paint.

I would go with

Dwill
Kobe
Durant
Dirk
Dwight

Dwill because I feel like he does a great job at balancing his own shots and distributing. He's also a solid defender and has great size.

Kobe because he can post up if Durant and Dirk are roaming the perimeter, and when Dirk wants to get inside, Kobe has a solid 3 point shot as well.

Durant because he's one of the league's best finishers at the rim (he's at 74% or something this year) but he's also got a devastating mid and long range game. His length can also provide problems.

Dirk because with a team like this, he would be an AMAZING first option. He could go inside or out and dominate anyone covering him.

Dwight because he would be a defensive anchor. He allows players like Dwight to roam outside, and he doesn't demand a ton of shots which is good for this team of scorers.

PG: Rondo (no point guard in the league is as good at distrubting among great talents, so Rondo is the only choice for PG, plus his amazing D).
SG: Ray Allen or Rip Hamilton (these two have different games, but both are great shooters, both move well without the ball, and neither demands to handle the ball in order to score- Bryant is clearly the best SG in the league, but I'm trying to set up a team with chemistry here, and as we all know, Kobe dominates the, for better or for worse, and usually for better).
SF: Gerald Wallace or Josh Smith (again, LBJ, Pierce and Durant, are all franchise players, and neither Wallace or Smith are, but both are great defenders on the wing, both move well without the ball, and neither needs the ball in their hands to score, but mostly I have these guys on for their defence and rebounding).
PF: Kevin Love (no rebounds, no ring, plus the gy can knock down shots for distance, so he's great for a high pick-and-roll).
C: Pau Gsol (interior passing, jumper post moves, defence, what more could you want. Howard is more domiant in the paint, but Gasol is the better all around player).

Just awful team.

1. No players who can create their own shot. E.g LeBron, Wade, Durant, Kobe, Pierce etc.
2. Since when Gerald Wallace and Josh Smith are better defenders than LeBron? They are great defenders, but not good as LeBron.
3. Bad defense on SG, PF and C positions.
4. No power in the team, soft team.
5. Taking Pau Gasol over Dwight Howard is crazy.
