View Full Version : Is it just me, or does Boston know how to finish a close game?

Boston has been missing players with injuries, and have had a bunch of games go down to the wire. I havent gotten to watch every game, but every time I hope on the NBAdotCom, and I see Boston is down by two or three with a minute to go, they always seem to end up winning the game.

I think this is going to be huge when the playoffs roll around.

What do you all think about Boston closing out tight games?

It's what championship teams do. There really isn't much to discuss, to be honest.

I think Boston is better at beating teams in general. I think the spurs are the best in the league at winning tight games

Well for two reasons...

1) they are the best defensive team in the NBA
2) they are a veteran experienced team

Yes it's only you.. None of us have realized that Boston has been a championship contender for the last 4 years lol

I sent a Q asking a local beatwriter about Boston:

How does a team - not just the Heat - go about beating the Celtics?
Despite dealing with injuries, they continue to defy the odds. They've
shot a high FG% throughout the season and it doesn't look like that's
going to change. If it's a close game, they always seem to pull away
at the end. They seem invincible right now.

I agree, they're niche is closing out games, and it's what championship teams do.

The problem for other teams is, they always manage to keep the game close, even if the other team has the lead for the first 3 quarters.

Is that why they gave away a 12 point lead in the finals?...shall we say game 7.

one of the reasons they are still my favorites to win it all.

One thing that they hav that no other team has is the ability to lock a game up under a minute bcse of Ray Allen. The guy can't miss a clutch free throw he's money.

However, for the first time almost ever he missed 2 under a minute last night but that's an anomaly.

The quote beneath your pic tells us all we need to know about you.

Oddly enough, it wasn't that long ago that the Celts were known as a team that could be worn down in the 4th throughout the regular season. Having Rondo back, however, makes the difference between a team that can find the offense late to win close games consistently, and being a team that struggles to get open shots or create offense in crunch time.

They are currently one of the best....if not THE best.

Fantastic defense, experience, chemistry, good bench, and players that fit the system very well

usually championship teams, with several veterans, and 3 or 4 hof'ers can finish out games. But it might just be you.

Is this a sarcastic thread because the Celtics almost blew a double digit lead in a less than a minute against the Spurs which would have been one the most embarrassing collapses in NBA history?

they have vets who remain calm and make plays, great defense, and the refs respect. Tough to beat that combination

Dont believe in it but even if true, its always better to the kind of team that can win before the final possessions.

I got a reply back from Ira Winderman:

you wait for them to get even older.

yup, that's pretty much all that could come to mind, even though they've already withstood the test of time.

They're also pretty good at blowing 10 point leads in a span of minutes, thus making the 4th quarter close when it shouldn't be.

No seriously, I would love for you to provide any evidence to your statement, what you will find is that teams record in close games are rarely consistent. Ill admit it seems like Boston always pulls these out, but I can recall the Spurs teams of the past that won titles and never had a strong record in close games.
