Spurs are incredible, being one of the best teams and having low draft picks they still managed to draft Ginobili, Parker, Scola, Barbosa, Salmons, Dragic, Hill, Splitter and Blair. All great players.

Dragić entered the 2008 NBA Draft, where he was selected in the second round, 45th overall, by the San Antonio Spurs.

I see that everybody is in complete agreement: The Spurs, hands down. They picked up guys like Manu and Parker with late first round or seconround picks, they picked up guys like George Hill and Gary Neal (unrafted if I'm not mistaken, though I'm not sure), and Duan Blair, not to mention Louis Scola and Splitter who shows a lot of promise. I cant think of a team that has drafted better than the Spurs over the last ten years. Barbosa, John Salmons, Beno Udrih. They also picked up guys other teams gave up on in Stephan Jackson and Bruce Bowen. They have the best scouting in the league! Hands down. Its just shame they usually end up having to trade some of their picks off because their team is usually stacked with players.

I think it is a process. I think the drafting plays a big part of it- but I think when some teams get their hands on a guy, you have perspectives, and some scouts-GMs-coaching units will look at a guy and expect him to do things he is not comfortable doing. They will try to mold him and not do a great job in that assessment.

Then the next process that gets screwed up is the development. The teachers and great knowledgeable staff who know how to teach and cultivate that player. To Bring him along in the process, know what the guy needs etc. Not rush him and throw him to the wolves and mess him up mentally etc. The head coaches philosophy and the kind of system he runs on the team- sometimes is not for everyone, sometimes it's a great environment for learning too. It goes for any sport in that sense.

Spurs and Thunder

I can't say anything that hasn't been said about the Spurs, but i'm surprised no one has said anything about the Thunder. After all, they brought the franchise back through the draft.

They drafted: Durant, Green, Landry (traded), Baby Davis (traded), Westbrook, Ibaka, Harden, Beaubois (traded), Bledsoe (traded). Thats pretty damn good.

The Knicks are good as long as they don't have a lottery pick. All of their lottery picks end up underachieving (Mike Sweetney, Channing Frye, Jordan Hill) Gallo is the exception to this, but some will argue the Knicks could have taken someone else. But their late 1st round picks/2nd round picks have been great: Landry Fields, Wilson Chandler, David Lee, Nate Robinson, Trevor Ariza, Toney Douglas.

Spurs are probably the best. But I think that OKC is also up there. Love what they have done in the past few drafts getting Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, Jeff Green , Serge Ibaka, James Harden (underachieving, but I think he will develop into a solid 2 guard).

The only one that Boston drafted out of those 4 was Avery Bradley.

But the Celtics did the scouting and told the teams to draft those players before the trade. If I'm not mistaken, the NBA limits the number of picks a team can trade away so teams get around this by trading the player once he is drafted. Even though the Celtics technically didn't draft those players, the deals were prearranged so I think they count for this threads purpose.

you shouldn't count people a team drafted, then traded away on draft day. a lot of the time the trades are done before the pick, then announced later on. i wouldn't count ty lawson for the wolves when denver actually picked it before it was annouced. or, ray allen by the wolves when he was traded for marbury.

i do like the celtics, bulls, and thunder for some of their latest drafts.

I agree with you. New York's scouting department is wierd... Its always getting the absolute best value for the low pick, but when it comes to high picks they **** up

Good news is Danillo gallinari isnt exactly a bust, and he's still developing. (Drafted 6th..22 yrs old..) but then again it was one of the deepest drafts in nba history. (2008 NBA draft)

Overrated. Even more ridiculous that you included Kobe in that list when he flat out refused to play for any team besides LA(As if the front office really had to do a lot of scouting work there). LA's teams, in recent years, have been built on FA signings(that no other team had a realistic shot at because of the Laker's location/reputation) and trades. The only contributer from that list on the current LA team is Bynum and he was a lottery pick. Not all that impressive when you consider the fact that some teams like SA haven't had a lottery pick in over thirteen years and have had to rebuild on the fly with late 1st rounders/2nd rounders while still maintaining a fifty win record every year.

The Spurs are the best but I think people are underrating the Celtics (Danny Ainge regime). None of the players used in the KG/Ray Allen trades were picked in the lottery except Jeff Green. All were mid to late 1st round picks. That's pretty impressive when you look at all the other major deals that have happened in the NBA recently. And I think Danny's 2nd round success is when documented (Ryan Gomes, Leon Powe, Big Baby).

I see some people are rating the Thunder high but they do have a lot of top 5 picks on that team (#2 Durant, #3 Harden, #4 Westbrook, #5 Green) so that's to be expected. I don't think it takes that much talent to draft at those positions (although there are definitely teams in the league that would do a lot worse).

Spurs are great, Knicks know how to find diamonds in the rough

Outside of the Spurs, I would say Portland and Indiana.

Portland...?? You are aware that Portland could of had MJ and Durant and misfired on both choices... I would say this alone bars them from any consideration as the best.. Period..!!!

Spurs drafted Scola, but they dumped him for some euro-trash, makes me guess they didn't evaluate his talent correctly...
They are still one of the, if not the best drafting team. Always find the diamond in the rough.

They knew Spanoulis wasn't going to play here anyways, that wasn't even close to why they got rid of him. They simply couldn't afford him at the time.

As stated earlier I don't think the Spurs exactly drafted Dragic, I'm pretty sure Phoenix knew they were getting the pick and ordered him up.

Regardless, yeah, Spurs have definitely been the most successful in the Draft.

It wasn't a matter of evaluating his talent, it was that they couldn't afford Scola at the time. It was definitely a mistake to let him go, but the guy wanted to come over and the Spurs weren't in a position to make that happen.
