I would say Lebron James. He was the raining MVP, leader of his old team, as well as the leader of his new team (lol at ppl thinkin he was gonna come second to Wade).

Ppl, followed him this entire summer. What is Lebron going to do? Is he leaving? And making the Miami franchise a true juggernaut and a media fantasy.

As much as everyone hated "The Decision", TEN MILLION PEOPLE watched it!

Why does the number of people who watched a player in the off-season during a non-game event equate to a player being the basketball player of the year?

If you want to say LeBron fine, but give better reasons. As better reasons exist, you do him a disservice by citing "the decision" as the reason.

it's funny so many people saying Lebron when I guess you could even go the other way and say 2010 damaged his career in a lot of peoples eyes.

I'll go with someone who I think is slightly overrated but this year is the reason people are overrating him. Kevin Durant. From January to seasons end he raised his game and got himsefl mentioned into a top 10-5 player in the league then built on that in the summer with team USA. Nobody has raised their reputation more then Durant from 09-10.

Whatever point you were trying to make, you failed at it.

Anyway, it's close between LeBron & Durant, but I'd go with Durant. He should get the award here, because he was the basketball story of 2010 winning the scoring title, coming in 2nd in MVP voting, creating a massive bandwagon campaign by ESPN heralding him as the next "savior" after abandoning the LeBron hype for a second, and they and other sports outlets dared to call him a better player than Kobe & Wade, then he follows it up with a spectacular summer showing that only gained in his cult following, and he's now leading the NBA in scoring again.

LeBron was more the story for things off the court rather than on them, that's why Durant is above him IMO.

100% agree. 1st the post was for the whole year and not the last 2 and a half months which pretty much negates Rose completely. In which case I believe it has to be between Durant who turned from an all-star to a superstar in one year, and LBJ for all the sh** he did this past year with the free agency, and the things he is doing for the heat.

Non-homer = LeBron simply for the attention the decision got as well as his play during the regular seasons

lol i agree that some of the bulls fans are joking around, but some of bulls fans aren't and are dead serious. However if you notice throughout a lot of the nba forum and questions similar to this, Rose will never, and I mean never come up unless its a bulls fan. I hope for the sake of the success of the NBA that rose succeeds because of the big Chicago market and it is good for the NBA if he succeeds. However this season is good for him, but he is in no way single handily carrying the bulls.

The bulls have a ton of talent on the team, with Boozer being an all-star, and Gibson, and Noah, and Brewer, and Korver, and Deng. I mean Rose is a hell of a player and one of the most dynamic ones to watch, however to announce him as "basketballer of the year" might be a little soon. Wait a couple years, he might get there

No, I made my point. Some ignorant heat fan asked what Derrick Rose had done. I simply told them he had done enough to warrant NBA.com putting him at #1 on their most recent MVP list. I never stated that Rose should be the "2010 Basketballer of the Year," however.

Anyways, I would also go with Durant as the Basketballer of the Year, not only because of his NBA play, but the way he led Team USA to the gold medal this year. I'd have LeBron as a close second, but that summer with Team USA is what gives Durant the edge to me.

I think it is between these two...

Durant- Youngest scoring champ, FIBA gold medal as the captain/leader/best player (not really a big deal to me personally, but a good accomplishment nonetheless), big contract extension, creating buzz in a new city, leading a young team to the playoffs, establishing himself as a top 5 player in the NBA

Amare- Led his team to the WCF, got a huuuuuuuge MAX deal in NY, leading his new team like noone thought he could do, Should be the MVP of the league if the season ended today, really improving his game in terms of rebounding and blocks, completely turned around the Knicks culture

PhillyFaninLA

I may hate this guy but he led his Lakers another championship. Kobe Bryant was the finals MVP again.

If the goal is to win a championship then playing as somewhere between the best and 4th best player in the world during the calender year and winning the finals MVP makes Kobe my choice.

If we are going strictly by play in the NBA Amare has gotta get some props......he was considered by many the MVP after the all star break, brought PHX to the WCF and put up a good fight against the champs, than completely turned the Knicks around into a 2nd tier playoff team and is top 3 in MVP consideration ATM

and NOT EVERY PERSON can be the b-baller of the year. Based off what you said, there are plenty of players who had more success than LBJ, since 4 other teams made it past the 2nd round. Give me the best player from the best team 10 out of 10 times when choosing this award. We're talking about player of 2010, not player with most talent. Team accomplishments come before individual accomplishments, Just my opinion of it is all, and if a player can't grasp that concept, they will never feel team success.

If you still disagree with that, then fine, but answer me this. In 2006, who was the basketball player of the year, D-Wade or Steve Nash?
