Do Shaq or Duncan move up in the all time rankings with another title this year?

duncan yes....shaq no

ducan has still been on the same team he has started with while shaq has been with 4 teams since he left LA (mia phx cle bos) so for that main reason duncans ring would hold more meritt than shaqs because a lot of people would view this ring for shaq as "ring chasing"

if either, duncan would be more likely. its not like shaq is a huge necessity nor like he plays big minutes at this stage. duncan is still the focal point of the spurs in many respects

Can you move up from being the best power forward to ever play in the NBA?

if they provide significant contributions to a title run, it will help their rankings a bit. however, both may be maxed out as far as how high they can go. Both are top 10 in my book, and both are on the downside of their career's, so they probably aren't passing anyone in front of them.

Not Shaq, thats for sure.

C'mon JB. Obviously it's all subjective and it's entirely based on how large a role they play in their teams potential title. Duncan's would clearly have to be huge, and would only cement his place as a top 10 player of all time, but Shaq's may or may not.

It doesn't hurt though, that's for sure.

Duncan yes. For Shaq it would depend on how well he plays in the playoffs during the potential championship run.

5 for timmy would look pretty sweet because every team was built around him. he was never number 2 to anyone. even this year.

Yeah. And even though Parker won the 2007 Finals MVP Duncan dominated that playoffs. All you have to do is compare Duncans stats with Parkers stats; it was ridiculous for Parker to win finals MVP in 2007, should have been Duncans.

My point exactly

Shaq's a role player now, no way he would stand out as one of the top Celtics in a title run so this year is insignificant for his legacy. But Duncan, even with a slightly reduced role, would have to be playing at a high level which he is still capable of and would definitely strengthen his overall standing.

Standings are purely based on a single person's opinion. We all know that both Shaq and Duncan were dominant players, and still are very solid players. There is no real way to compare players of different eras. While # of rings is often used as an argument of how good a player is, there are many factors that people tend to overlook. Winning a ring takes a cohesive unit of players, good health, and a little bit of luck (D. Fish's 0.4 second shot, Robert Horry's numerous clutch shots, etc.). Hell if Iverson had Shaq in his prime on his team, he might be in the running for GOAT.

With that said, if Shaq is able to play a large role in the playoffs in a 'ship season for the Celtics, that will be hugely impressive.

Duncan, hell yes. I'll go as far as to say that beating the Lakers but not winning the title would up his legacy.

Shaq is a no though because he is basically the equivalent of an older Gary Payton, chasing a ring. A ring with the Cavs or Suns could have at least allowed for a case to be made in his favor.

Duncan would because of his unbelievable consistency and durability. Shaq has been a funny guy and a hired gun since leaving LA.

It would help Duncan more than Shaq. Shaq is not the main force anymore but Duncan still is and the spurs have to go through him in order to win it all. PERIOD.

1st of all..all of these people cant choose who goes higher, because at the end of the day there numbers and awards are only going to pile up and one of them will win a championship so to compare them to other players will make the case easier for duncan and shaq because of the amount they win..the real question is where are they ranked now.. and if they do win a few championships how high do they go up..

You should fix the thread.. im interested to see where shaq and duncan rank all time..

I don't see either of them winning another ring

You just said that the real question is where are they ranked now. Then you said that someone should fix the thread because you're interested in how they rank all time. ???

Saying lets take away a player from a team as a excuse just shows how much you know about the game..teams wont play the same way one..2 whos to say they dont trade for a better pg knowing they needed it?..whos to say jason kidd left and signed with the spurs?.. you will never know.. its like saying a certain jumpshot with 9mins left cost the team the game.. its a lame excuse..

What is it that you dont get?

if were talking about all time rankings then you can ask the question.. do they jump a certain player thats ranked above them?.you cant say that thy go above someone in the rankigs without saying whos ahead..just because they win a ring doesnt mean they jump higher in the list if you cant make the case for them being better..

like i said the thread should be if tim duncan and shaq win a ring how high do thy go and where are they in all time rankings.. no point to make a thread that gets a obvious answer
