View Full Version : Garnett goes down: X-Ray negative, MRI tomorrow

tredigs
12-29-2010, 09:32 PM
Injured his right knee taking off for a dunk versus the Pistons tonight.

There was no obvious impact on the play, and in my experience that generally means a more serious issue (ligament). He's in the locker room taking X-rays right now (will have to wait for an MRI to see ligament damage).

I'm hoping that it isn't serious, the guy has been incredible all season. He did look to be in serious pain, though.

They're taking X-rays on Garnett's right knee now in the Detroit locker room. He's done for night -- and presumably longer.

This is the knee that KG injured two years ago that led to surgery --- and it was injured in almost same way on dunk vs. Utah. Stay tuned.

UPDATE 8:45 pm: Comcast New England is reporting that the X-rays came back negative, meaning no fracture, but he will have an MRI back in Boston on Thursday. The X-ray results are a good sign that this may not be anything long term. Garnett will not return to this game.

Other reports of media who talked to Boston players said they don’t think it was as serious as it first looked.

Jester4k0

I don't think very many fans actually view his injury as some kind of "cosmic retribution" for his "alleged" ignorant comments. However, as a fan of the Pistons, any injury to the opposing team that happens naturally and can help my team win i won't shed a tear over. All players get injured. It's part of the game.

I think some may look at this injury as sweeter because of the context associated with him and CV31. But for me its only a coincidence that the injury occurred vs. the Pistons tonight.

The Intimidator
12-29-2010, 10:10 PM
I hope he's alright. I don't really put stock in initial reports though. 2 years ago when KG got hurt against Utah, he was supposed to be out for 2-3 weeks and ended up missing the rest of the season. It looked the same as the injury he sustained against Utah. I think it's bad. Damn...

Torn ligaments do not show up on X-Rays, so I'm not sure why they consider this to be any less serious given the results. If anything, I'd think it would be a bad sign.

I don't think of it as being a good or a bad sign. As always with situations like this, we won't really know anything until the results from the MRI come back.

You learn something new everyday...
KG did something bad and something bad happened to him KARMA. It being an injury is irrelevant, he could have forgotten his luggage on the way home it still would be karma.

I actually hope KG's okay, me personal think of him as a punk that can't talk big to someone like Ben Wallace he would much rather trash talk someone smaller and less likely to trash talk back

And the Heat played the C's without Perkins. A fully healthy Celtics squad is the best in the game top to bottom, and Miami would have to play perfect to beat them. Just as always with their squad (right down to game 7's of the Finals), their title chances are all about keeping that fragile squad on the court.

I'm just confident in the Heat's progression over the last couple of weeks.

Come playoff time I expect Miller back integrated into the rotation, and the Heat firing on all cylinders defensively. Rondo & Ray Allen won't be a wrecking ball anymore and I think it will give the Heat the edge in a 7 game series.

The #1 defense in the NBA.

Ray Allen isn't going to hit 7 3pt shots in a row every game over a 7 game series... in actuality he's been inconsistent through the playoffs all 3 years.... and the Heat have had increasing effectiveness against elite PGs since adding Chalmers back into the rotation. PGs haven't terrorized the Heat like they were before he came back in.

but according to MY celtic sources he DID NOT tear an ACL or MCL....he should be out for an extended period of time but MY sources do not belive this injury will not keep him out for the whole season....but as they told me not all of the test are done yet and not all the results are in...

this is just what they told me they believe from the test they have done so far

My Pistons sources told me we were getting Carmelo Anthony for Tayshaun Prince and Eminem is buying the team....

The Heat were healthy? The Celtics smashed the Heat? By 5 and 8 points? :pity:

The #1 defense in the NBA.

Ray Allen isn't going to hit 7 3pt shots in a row every game over a 7 game series... in actuality he's been inconsistent through the playoffs all 3 years.... and the Heat have had increasing effectiveness against elite PGs since adding Chalmers back into the rotation. PGs haven't terrorized the Heat like they were before he came back in.

Say what you want, if you actually watched those games then you'd know neither game was ever close. The end result matters when the Celts have their 2nd string finishing the 4th quarter?

I'm not taking anything away from the Heat, they've pulled it together and are playing great basketball. Miami is 7-7 against teams above .500, and they haven't come close to beating Boston. They're 18-2 vs. teams under .500. San Antonio, Dallas and Boston are still the teams to beat at this point. A team with a solid rotation of bigs and good point guard play are going to give the Heat fits all day long.
