Just looking geographically and it bothers me that they are in the western conference lol

And it would help the talent in the bottom half of the playoffs and in general

So the Grizzlies go to the east and I guess the next expansion team moves an east team to the West like las vegas or where ever they go

Just thought it would be a good topic

Bothers me too, Milwaukee is about as far west as Memphis.

Ehhh they're more of a Western team IMO. Grizzlies or Hornets should be in the east though.

what really gets me is that New Orleans and Memphis are in the "Southwest" division and Pheonix is in the Pacific division.

meh, they're central. 210don said it, can go either way. i think more west coast when i think of memphis than the east though

but in terms of East vs West, the NBA uses the Mississippi River as a boundary. So since New Orleans and Memphis are very very close to the river, they count them as west to make it even.

First, I don't think there should be any more expansion teams. If they decide to relocate a curent eastern conference team to Vegas or Seattle, then yes. But if not, you can't ruin tradition by having a team like Milwaukee or Chicago move to the West.

Looking at some maps (linked to the best one I could, but google has a better one), New Orleans, Memphis, Chicago, and Milwaukee could all go either way.

Who do you move West? Chicago? Milwaukee? No one would like that.

Northwest Division is really screwy if we wanna talk geography. Portland actually is northwest, Utah is several states south and east, Minnesota is midwest sort of near Denver and OKC is down near the Southwest Division.

I know I would have LOVED being in the East Conference for the past few years.
Never made sense to me since we are east of the Mississippi River. I just figured the NBA wanted to keep us as perennial whipping boys .

Disregarding geography and just looking at what would give the conferences more balance, I think teams like Memphis, Minnesota and New Orleans would have success in the east. The difference between the conferences is the east is top heavy but very weak after the top 5-6 teams, and the west has more talented teams. The problem with the east is that you get 3-4 awful teams in the playoffs year after year, and the problem with the west is that you get 3-4 very promising teams left out of the playoffs year after year.

Memphis and New Orleans, yep, should be East... I once thought that New Orleans Hornets were no longer an NBA team when I checked the Eastern Conference standings :D (after 3-4 years of no interest in the NBA, so I lost track a bit)
