SAN ANTONIO Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony did not play Wednesday night against San Antonio because of the death of his sister, the team announced.

Michelle Anthony died of a pre-existing medical condition Tuesday in Baltimore. She is survived by her four children.

The forward traveled with the team to San Antonio before leaving. He will also miss the Nuggets' Christmas night game at Oklahoma City. His return to the team is not known.

"It's not time to talk about that," Nuggets coach George Karl said after Wednesday morning's shootaround. "I think it's the time to give him some space, give him support, and somewhere in the next couple of days, hopefully we'll get a schedule on exactly what's going to happen."

Anthony has played in 24 of 27 games this season.

"Our entire organization supports Carmelo during this difficult time for him and his family," Nuggets executive vice president of basketball operations Masai Ujiri said in a statement. "It is heartbreaking news, particularly during the holiday season."

This is terrible news no matter who it is, but for he and Green, they lose someone so close to Christmas, you'll never be able to celebrate the holiday the same again.
Gonna say a prayer for both of their families.

It's terrible, especially right before Christmas, I lost my dad a day before Thanksgiving a few years ago and it seems like it makes it that much worse for it to happen in a time where it's meant for one to spend with loved one's
