View Full Version : In terms of being loyal and supporting the team, who has the best fans?

Probably the warriors or some team that is really bad but always has fan support.

thekmp211
12-22-2010, 04:24 PM
the oldest teams are just more likely to have solid, dedicated fan bases. celts, lakers, knicks ect.

the warriors, which also fit this bill, probably have the most impressive fan base to me. their team is almost always non-competitive yet they sell out and maintain a great home atmosphere. gotta respect that.

we're pretty loyal. We usually have a crap *** team but our fans still support the Raptors alot, and we're always in the top half for attendance. When we're a good team, we can easily be in the top 7 for fan attendance.

In no way are Celtics fans loyal by any means. Check out the attendance during their "bad" years when they didn't have the "Big Three". http://espn.go.com/nba/attendance/_/year/2004. After looking at these charts, I'm going to have to go with the Bulls. Even during their bad years, they are still consistently in the top 10 in average attendance. From what I have read, the Jazz, Warriors, and Trail Blazers all hold their own when it comes to a good fan base.

I've been a Warriors fan for a couple decades now - and so has nearly every friend from the north Bay Area that I know. I'm proud that none of them have jumped on the Lakers run over the years. Probably helps that despite their struggles, they're almost always an entertaining team to watch, and they never give up (though they do play absurdly wild/dumb at times).

I've noticed I like Celtics fans as a whole quite a bit; Knicks too.

The bulls havent left the top three in attendance AT ALL since mj left...they won 18 games in 99 and were top three and maybe even number one in attendance if my memory serves me correctly.

always tops in merchandising. same for all this with the knicks.

My impulse was the Clippers simply because they've been "cursed" for so long, but the fans still show, but this reason is even better. They have everything a fan would want in a franchise so close by.

I think the lakers have only missed the playoffs 3 or 4 times in their entire history. I think the Clippers do have a good fan base. Their games are usually prety high in attendance yet they've historically been the worst team in history. I know the Jazz, Knicks, Blazers, bulls and warriors also have good fans.

This is a stupid thread because big cities are going to more than often have better attendance than those with smaller populations. Then you have the dumbass Heat fans that joined PSD in July thinking the Heat are one of them. If you wanted to know most loyal you have to look at fans that are the most homer because no matter how much the evidence points to one side of the argument they will defend their players and team. So Chicago, Boston, and Miami.

Clipper fans. The Clipper fans that are still there have to be the most loyal. They've ALWAYS been in the shadows of the Lakers and always will be. If they haven't jumped ships to the Lakers, then it's definitely them

Heat/Laker fans are a no-go. They have too many bandwagon fans that only follow them coz of Wade/Lebron/Kobe etc. If Kobe left, half the "Laker fans" would follow him

Portland Fans are the most dedicated. Their last taste of a championship was in 1977. After that has come continuous heartbreak: the Drexler- and Porter-led team not coming through, the Wallace- and Pippen-led team blowing a 17-point lead and the Oden- and Roy-led team falling apart. Still, the Coliseum has the all-time sell-out record with 814 games. It took a new stadium to end that streak.
The team almost always at least gets to the playoffs, though. It took dogfights and drug rings to drive Blazer fans away, and even then, games averaged over 16,000 fans. The current sell-out streak is also in the hundreds. Maybe it's the rain.

Haha... you've missed the playoffs 4 times... in like 5 decades. The last time your team didn't win 50+ games and go to the playoffs, it was the 90's. How exactly would you even KNOW if your fanbase is loyal or not?

Constant, never ending seasons of playoff basketball has probably jaded the fans, but they're not the most imposing team to visit as far as the crowd noise is concerned.

Clippers fans have to be pretty high on the list. Attendence isn't the highest in the league, but we all could have just as easily chosen to be "diehard" Laker fans. No other fan base has the distinction of both rooting for the worst franchise in the history of sports and taking a flier on the Lakers.

If you lived in L.A. and weren't a Lakers fan, you would understand. As a kid, my best friends family were Laker fans and by 5 years old I couldn't tolerate how homer and annoying they were come game time. 90% of the time when I tell someone that I'm a clippers fan, they ask my why. I really don't think they did. Everything I've heard (except other fans badmouthing Boston fans) is that it was Laker fans at the game chanting it. If you watch the video you can barely even hear it, because the boos from the Boston fans easily drown it out. The commentators even say there are a lot of Laker fans sticking around (whereas I'm assuming a lot of home fans have left, being 12 down against their arch rivals with a minute left).
I think it's one of those stories that every just believes because they've heard it so many times, without really checking for themselves.

If loyal means booing your team then the knicks but if it means cheering and filling up the seats even when the team is brutal. Raptors, Golden state and thisyear cleveland.

I'm not putting the Knicks in the top 5. Top 10 for sure. I notice only Knicks fans place themselves in the top 3.

Knicks' fans cared more about getting LBJ than the product that was on the court for like 2 years.

Whats your point? We still sucked and all the LBJ talk was media hype and you know how the media is.... you do realize we were under Isiah Thomas before that and do you even know how man fans STILL attended the games?

This. You gotta throw the knicks in there too.

Us Warrior fans are like battered women, no matter how badly we're treated we keep coming back for more with no hope in sight.

I really don't think they did. Everything I've heard (except other fans badmouthing Boston fans) is that it was Laker fans at the game chanting it. Man you guys will go to amazing heights to justify this one. I watched the game, live. You could hear it. It was loud. I never thought I would hear that in my life. Kobe remarked after the game "I never thought I would hear that here"..... As far as Laker fans dude it was a regular season game and Lakers where not dominating like they are now. Do you seriously think enough Laker fans made it to a regular season, not playoff, Celtic game to chant MVP loud enough to be heard throughout the rest of the "loyal" Celtic fans? Just think about it for a minute.

Come on man just keep it real. They chanted for Kobe. No need to deny it.

^ I'm sure there's a portion of Lakers fans that are great, but there are so many fair weathered fans that don't know anything about the league.

As much as I dislike them, Utah has a constant strong following. Their my vote.

C'mon Man!!! The celtic fans didn't fill the stadium until "the big three" came to town. I measure support by what stadiums are being filled during the good and bad times. In regards to attendance, the Bulls fans have been in the top 3 in fan attendance consistently for years. Heat fans were nowhere to be found before they got LBJ and Bosh. Don't believe me--look it up!

+ 1 Kobe gets booed EVERYTIME he comes to the Garden so i donno why that one day is being glorified to try and make the Celtic fans not seem loyal come through boston and see how crazy these fans are for their sports teams don't comment if you've never been there

Warriors, no doubt about it.

Utah, Toronto, Boston, Portland are all up there too. But there's no way you can't pick those warrior fans......I mean, what have ever really had to cheer about?

I don't want to be a homer on this one... but I have to go with Detroit. Our basketball and football teams are both in shambles, but we still grim and bare it and support them in large numbers. I would also put Utah up their... I mean they are in Utah... a place that has no reason to have a basketball fan base, but there building has been the hardest to win in for the past two decades.

Overall basketball fans though... with no allegiance to a team. It has to be New York.
