TORONTO -- Joakim Noah is scheduled to undergo surgery on his right thumb, two team sources told the Tribune.

The Bulls' starting center could be sidelined for up to 10 weeks.

Noah played with the injury Wednesday night against the Raptors after team physicians determined he could do no further damage to the injury.
Noah first got whacked on the thumb in late November and then aggravated the injury in early December. He has been playing with his hand taped at times.

The Tribune first reported the severity of Noah's injury late Tuesday. The determination for surgery was made Wednesday.

There is still a small chance the surgery could be delayed. But at this point, the Bulls are scheduled to announce the surgery on Thursday.

Noah declined comment before the game.

Well, that's certainly a bad break for the Bulls.

Sucks, too. They were just starting to mesh really well. Hopefully they can get him back quick and get a solid chemistry going for the playoffs.

We should be ok with Gibson & Boozer against most teams, but the bigger teams will kill us. Good thing we've played the Celtics twice already and done with the Lakers.

this is a big blow for us. But boozer and Gibson are going to have to step up. So far they have. hopefully when he comes back he will return to his usual self and fit right in, because we are going to need can come playoff time.

That really sucks... They just got Boozer back now the Bulls won't have the right chemistry with them two on the floor together. Hope Noah has a speedy recovery though.

There's no word to describe how angry I am right now. But then again, I'm almost starting to feel numb to hearing about news like this. First Boozer, now Noah, what's next?

And look, maybe I'm letting my feelings get the best of me right now, but I feel like players get over-babied. I highly doubt Boozer really needed to miss all that time with his broken hand. Noah looked fine tonight, isn't it slightly possible to let him play through it and have surgery in the off season?

I might sound really stupid right now. Afterall, I'm no doctor. But this is just really infuriating.

Super.

Obviously my first question to you is, how many bones have you broken and how many ligaments have you torn in your life to know how it feels to have those injuries?

ChI_ShIzzLe

But to keep things positive, we've won 7 straight despite Noah struggling and not really being a big factor because Boozer has been beasting. Hopefully him and Taj can become a force in the paint, although he doesn't have the length of Noah, he's a tough SOB and can score.

We will still be an automatic top 4 seed in the playoffs because I don't really see us losing the division. It's good he is going now, so he can come back and we can be at full strength for the playoff run. For now, bring Sheed to Chi Town

Hmmm... where should I start?

Broken wrist - 3 months
Broken pinkie - 1 month
Broken hand - played through it, now it's a somewhat crooked and gets a little sore from time to time again, but nothing life-changing
Strained hip flexor - 2 weeks
2 rolled ankles - 3 weeks each...

You kind of see a trend here?

Look, I agree, it's not easy to play through injuries, and I'm not disputing that Noah should be missing any time. I just think it's crazy to think that it takes 10 weeks to fix a slightly torn thumb.

And what I mean by "babied" is that I feel like nowadays in sports if there is even the slightest injury, it automatically means surgery. Like I said, I'm not a doctor, but there's no denying that sometimes the process gets abused.

You asked the question, I gave you an answer.

Does my toughness match up to that of Joakim Noah? Of course not.

But let's face it... If Noah had this injury 20 years ago, they throw tape on it, and he would play through it.

That's all I'm saying. It's frustrating that this has to be the case.

Yeah, but 5th seed with a better record, vs a 4th seed, still gets home court. Regardless you will still get Boston or Miami in the second round. It's a tough loss! Getting 4th seed, or not, is irrelevant,

Why the hell would they play Noah today?

Well it was reported that he couldn't make the injury any worse by playing.

That being said, I still don't know why. It wasn't really a huge game where he was absolutely needed. I assume maybe it was Noah's request at one last game before the surgery.

I was wondering what was wrong with Noah the past few weeks. He just wasn't beasting the way he normally does, and this makes perfect sense. 2 to 2.5 months though? Sucks for Chicago.

The bulls always suffer an injury to a key player. I'm starting to think there is a post-MJ curse. FFS, Boozer misses 8 weeks then a week later, Noah is out for 10 weeks. Last year, Noah, Rose, and Deng were out for 10 consecutive games I believe, nearly knocking us out of the playoff hunt. We can't seem to buy a break and I was hoping we would play NY on Christmas and Miami in January at full strength. It's too bad...

You guys were on a roll too. Even with Noah going down you guys should still win your division so a top playoff seed is still yours.
