View Full Version : Opinion from fans around the league: Is Darko a top 10 center?

I just want to know what some of your opinions are on that settiment. Because this guy on another message board is saying he's a top 10 center now cuz he blocks shots and plays good D. my argument is that he's completely one dimensional.

Not even close.

He's had like, three really good games this year and has been mediocre or crap otherwise.

From the one game I saw, No! he got owned badly, but like i said, ive only seen him one time this season.

LOOOL... umm, no.

im not going to say he is the best but how hes playing right now hes got to get some consideration for top 15 maybe. name 14 centers who are playing better at the moment or just better.

12-12-2010, 01:14 AM
I would name brands of trash cans before I put him in any kind of top 15 or top list for that matter.

Good centers are rare nowadays, that's why when good centers become available you pay them good.

even as a Wolves fan, I say no. Darko blocks a ton of shots, but he is fringe top 15 as a starter if you look at the whole season

12-12-2010, 01:23 AM
I figured this would be the case. He's not a top 10 center at this point either, but he's young enough still to develop into one. Let's wait and see how he does the remainder of the season. A few good games isn't good enough to sway me.

Can someone name 9 legit better centers?

nygiants242
12-12-2010, 01:26 AM
I'm not sure he fits into the Top 10, but reemy is right. Do people realize how awful the Center position is in the NBA in this day and age? Back in the 90s, there were a bunch of LEGIT centers.. I'm talking 7 foot, 300lbs. The center of this decade is a ***** that takes outside shots, doesn't D up, and is barely over 230. :laugh2:

He's been far better this year in the past, but still needs a lot of improvement. The weakness of the position is what really is cause for consideration of "top 10."

Let's make a rough list:
Duncan (yeah, he's not a PF)
Dwight
Gasol
Gasol
Big Z
Bogut
Horford
Lopez
Hibbert
Chandler
Okafor

...yeah

Doesn't matter if they're actually PF playing Center. They're still playing Center. That makes them better Centers than Darko.

Maybe. He still has a hard time finishing around the basket. His shot blocking is very dominant though. I'd say top 15

I loved how he's played against the Lakers this season.. He had a big game the last time the Lakers played the Wolves, I believe he handed out 6 blocks as well. His defense is solid, his offense is nothing to brag about.

NO. Absolutely not. He's improved and can provide some quality minutes now, but to think of him as in the top 3rd of centers in the league is ridiculous.

I just watched Darko last night against the Bulls, and he really didn't impact the game much at all. I will say his back to the basket game has definitely improved, as he successfully went to that a few times.

nycericanguy
12-12-2010, 09:47 AM
No he's not, he's played better this year but lets not get carried away. He's averaging 9ppg & 6rpg and shooting a horrendous 42% which for a center is horrible. Not to mention he's putting up these numbers on one of the worst teams, if not the worst team in the NBA.

He's always been a good shotblocker though.

Darko had success like this before, when he first got to ORL he put up these type of numbers, 8ppg & 5rpg.

It speaks more to how big of a bust he is when people are so excited at that statline.

he was in foul trouble from the opening tap. Can't really do much on the bench, or when you can't be aggressive when you are in

Isn't that one of his weaknesses though? I can only go off of the Spurs games (when he played really well) but he was in foul trouble in both games and eventually fouled out. Is that common, or just a fluke?

Quite honestly, I'd putting folks like Haywood, Gortat, even a limp Greg Oden or Ming higher than Milicic. He's talented, but just can't seem to put it together.
