In this age of point guards, we always get stuck on the Rose vs. Rondo comparison, or the Cp3 vs. D Will. So I thought I’d make a new matchup of a couple top 10 pgs that are solid. If you’re starting a team with no one but this point guard, who do you take?

Raymond Felton vs. Jameer Nelson

Raymond Felton
Out of North Carolina, in the league for 5 years, 6’1, 205.

Slightly better numbers than Nelson in every category this year, slightly bigger than Nelson, less prone to injuries, having a breakout season

Jameer Nelson
Out of St. Joseph’s, league for 6 years, 6’0, 190.

Better career field goal percentage, better shooter all around, less turnovers than Felton, all-star, playoff and finals experience, mental toughness

Who do you take?

jameer, he's a all star and even though his numbers are a little down thats cause he plays with howard, lewis, and carter

Felton. Better at everything imo except maybe long range shooting. Also a much better defender and extremely clutch and fearless down the stretch. Great leader as well.

Nelson, no doubt.

Neither.

But if I really had to pick one, it'd definitely have to be Nelson. Felton sucks.

I'll take Felton this year and going forward. He seems to be playing at a high level. Jameer seems to have hit a ceiling...

 Wouldnt that make his numbers go up as a point guard with nice wing players and an alley-oop machine in Howard???

Yum...

If you know me, you know how I'm going to argue this.

Some stats for this season! I'm going to use PER 36 minute stats, because the minute per game stat differential is ridiculous. Felton plays about 9 more a game, because the Knicks have no good back up, and the Magic have two.

Felton: FG%: 46.9, 3PT%: 35.6, TS%: .583, eFG%: .531, points: 17.1, assists: 7.8, rebounds: 3.8, TO: 3.3, AST%: 35.4, TOV%: 18.5, ORtg: 115, DRtg: 110, WS/48: ]0.146, USG%: 22.1
Nelson: FG%: 49.2, 3PT%: 40.7, TS%: .582, eFG%: .556 points: 17.9, assists: 8.5, rebounds: 3.7, TO: 3.1, AST%: 42.5, TOV%: 16.7, ORtg: 117, DRtg: 102, WS/48: 0.214, USG%: 23.9

If you watch the Magic, Nelson is where everything starts from. He runs the pick and roll amazingly efficiently. His chemistry with Dwight is great. It's not an offense where anyone is going to put up huge numbers, but it is an offense that demands a PG who can get past the first layer of defense and create...as well as hit any shots.

When Nelson was in his prime, not dealing with injuries like he was last year, he was a 50/45/85 shooter. There aren't many guys at all who can do that. That's Steve Nash good. One of the best pure shooters in the league, and his play making has been phenomenal this year.

I'm bias...but there are the stats. If you want to do PPG, APG etc., Felton looks better. That's fine.

Neither.

Felton sucks? HAHA, no one in the NBA really sucks. However with the superb amount of talent that Nelson has played around the past 3 or 4 years makes him who he is. Put Nelson on the Knicks and Felton on the Magic and watch how their numbers would differ. Felton is shining with the Knicks right now, he would be so much better on Orlando for the sheer fact that they have a more talented team. I don't believe Nelson would do so hot on the Knicks, i guarantee his numbers would go down.

Nelson easily... Idk why you guys think Felton has better numbers, "per game" stats don't mean ****, anyone with half a brain can see that Nelson is destroying Felton statistically:

Nelson: 20.0PER 58.2TS% 55.6eFG% 6.2TRB% 42.4AST% 1.8STL% 0.0BLK% 16.7TO% 117Ortg 102Drtg 0.214WS/48
Felton: 19.8PER 58.3TS% 53.1eFG% 6.0TRB% 35.4AST% 2.5STL% 0.6BLK% 18.5TO% 115Ortg 110Drtg 0.146WS/48

What stats are you looking at? You can clearly see that Jameer has been playing much better and that on a top team in the league... Nelson, easily.

Felton is reaping the benefits of Coach D's pg friendly offense. The magic would really benefit if Nelson was a pass first type of pg. I would take Felton because I want my pg to ffect the game with both his passing and scoring.

Every passing stat you can find suggests Nelson has been the superior passer. His passing this year has been great.

6th in the league in AST%, 7th in AST/48, 15th in A/TO.

Felton: 15th in AST%, 10th in AST/48, 29th A/TO.

Raymond's stats are so inflated because he logs so many minutes. He is second in the league in minutes.

Felton is probably is his break out Year. And this dude is very strong Plays with a stomach virus and still drop 18 points

Tough call for me.

I like PGs that play pass first and play good on the ball defense. That being said, I'll take Felton and put some scorers around him. Felton is a good passer and keeps his head on a swivel looking for the cutting teamate. His individual defense is decent as well.

Nelson is better equipped for an inside-out game. No knock on Nelson because when he waits for his shot, he's deadly. But I kinda look at him as a shooter with PG size and average PG skills.

So funny to see all this Felton talk now that he's in New York. He's gone from underrated to overrated. Which is a shame because he's one of my favorite players. Great teammate and leader in the locker room.

What does that mean? "When he waits"? You do realize the ball is almost always in his hands. He doesn't just wait on the perimeter to get his shot. Felton shoots more from outside. Per 48 minutes, Nelson averages more shot attempts at the rim (making a larger percentage: 67-62.5), and from within the paint. He's better at getting to the rim.

He's a better scorer in every single sense of the term. And if you factor in his improved passing, well, you can deduce how I feel.

felton has been pretty nasty this yr. cant say ive seen too much of nelson. but felton has been a leader and seems to have both that physical and mental toughness. gotta be a toss up just cause of what nelson has been for the magic not just this yr but in yrs past too..

Have you never heard that term before? When Nelson plays in the team offense and takes his shot (spots on the floor where he's comfortable, open looks, ect) he's a very efficient shooter which is showing this year.

This includes shots at the rim, pull up jumpers and the inside out game. He is absolutely a better scorer than Felton and always has been. What I meant by that was when hes not forcing shots he's a huge asset to his team.

But I'm confused why you are questioning what i posted because is seems you are saying the same things I am.

Since you guys love per game stats, here are the h2h stats from last year's series between the two:

Felton: 11.0ppg-2.5rpg-5apg on 40.5FG%-30.8THR%
Nelson: 23.8ppg-2.8rpg-4.5apg on 48.4FG%-42.9THR%

I don't know why we're making this comparison at all...

It's close only because Felton is a much tougher defender.
