I know it's early, but nothing about Blake Griffin seems like a fluke; he dominates. There's been almost no transition period for him. The whole time at Oklahoma - probably since high school - he's been subconsciously playing in the NBA. Malone was 6'9" and 250 pounds; Griffin is 6'10" and 251 pounds. Malone was on a better team and played better defense, but defense was a bigger deal for players back then and always a bigger deal for the Jazz than the Clippers. Still, give Griffin his credit; he's 20 and Karl was 22.

Karl Malone, rookie: 17.5 points(49.6 FG%), 10.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.5 steals and 0.6 blocks.
Blake Griffin, rookie: 20.7 points (53.1 FG%), 11.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.5 blocks per game.

Do you think he can keep it up?

nope, and Like it or not, Defense IS JUST AS IMPORTANT as offense (unlike most for some reason believe) but with that said, hes been great for how young he is

No way. He may be a better version of Elton Brand.

The crazy thing is Elton Brand's rookie season was much better than Karl Malone's rookie season. That's a shocker to me. :speechless:

He really needs to improve his defense first. Malone never had a defensive rating worse than 103 (101 for his career) and peaked at a rating of 96. Griffin isn't near him defensively with his rating hovering around 108 at the moment.

He's a more athletic but poorer defensive version of Malone. The guy needs time to prove himself. The Mailman is one of the greatest PF's ever, so comparisons like this are a bit early.

Well that is because he was on a horrible team so he put up good numbers quicker.

To be honest, he really isn't anything like Malone at all. Their styles of play are entirely different. Griffin relies on his explosiveness while Malone relied on brute strength. I think Griffin is much more comparable to Shawn Kemp.

Griffin needs to develop a solid mid-range game before the Karl Malone comparisons start.
