Former Orlando Magic star Tracy McGrady insists he hasn’t considered how much longer he’ll continue to play in the NBA, but he says he can continue to play for at least a couple more years.

“I’m healthy,” said McGrady, whose Detroit Pistons will face the Magic tonight at Amway Center.

“Right now, it’s just adapting to so many different roles: adjusting to coming off the bench, having not played in so long, getting my timing back, my rhythm and knowing what’s comfortable to me on the basketball court.

“I’m not what I once was, but I think I’m a smart enough basketball player to be able to modify my game. It’s just working on fine-tuning what I can and what I can’t do on the basketball court. Everything is an adjustment. As long as I’m healthy, I feel good about my future.”

McGrady, who underwent microfracture surgery on his left knee in Feb. 2009, is averaging 4.3 points in 16.8 minutes per game.

McGrady, 31, is in a one-year deal.

When asked if he feels he could play “a couple more years,” he responded, “There’s no doubt.”

Damn hes only 31? Thought he was like 33 or 34...

Anything is possible though, he just needs to make sure he stays healthy. Of course his back and knee probs took all his explosiveness/athleticism away which was what he relied on.

He is right though, he is going to have to make some adjustments and IMO really needs to work on a jumper. Allen is getting up there in age, but because of his shot hes still effective.

Yes, but at what level? If he's just going to be bench fodder then he might as well retire.

Yeah my grandma could technically play too, but in the NBA you actually have to be good to play

I think he can get 20/5/5 on 43-45% if he got 37 mpg.

no definitely not ever gonna happen

like last year when people predicted a comeback, he is done now

He hasn't put up those numbers since the 2004-2005 season...

So I'll disagree.

He's still a young 31 yr old but has too much mileage on him.
I say he retires within the next 3 years.

McGrady just looks/plays sluggish after I saw him play at Arco a few weeks back!

I understand he still has "confidence" in himself (which he should have), but this is clearly as reachable a statement can be regarding McGrady and his NBA future.

As far as these forums go, I'd say McGrady is one of the more overrated players ever. He really has never won anything, he's injury prone, and people always seem to think that he is on the brink of returning to his form from 2002-2003.

I don't get it.

I saw him last night, on what he called the first time he has been healthy in 2 years... he is done.

I think a healthy tmac is worthy of atleast a few more years... he's only 31! He is still veteran savvy on the court and still capable of being a top play maker once he has the ball in his hands... hint.. hint.. (Detroit)!!

IIIIIIIIIFFFFFF, he is really healthy, i dont get it. I check on his box score every day and i dont get it.

he's getting better every game. If Detroit ends up starting him his numbers will greatly improve. I think he will finish his career in detroit.

He should have retired in 2003. It's been a decline since then.

12-02-2010, 06:26 PM
If getting 0 points, 2 rebounds and 1 assist is an example of him getting better every game, i'd hate to see him 2 games ago.

EDIT: 1-4 in 18 minutes of play 2 games ago.... YIKES! He had the worst +/- on the team. lol yep..this is a guy who needs MORE playtime.

T-Mac just needs home court advantage. Then he'd be a 20 5 and 5 guy.

Lol Knew JB will be posting this. Can't argue against T-Mac not being good against him.

He is 0-2 with HCA though.
