View Full Version : Why can't Melo play at the 2?

Why is his position so set at the 3 that playing him at the 2 seems taboo? From what people say about him defensively hes not much better against 3s so whats the difference?

He looks like a scoring guard to me. A scoring guard with a post game. Some of the teams looking to acquire him have a good young SF (Gallinari) who would benefit from having him at the 2. Is his handle not good enough to be a 2 guard? Why doesnt anyone discuss him as a 2 guard or the possibility for him to be a 2 guard?

If his defense is bad against the 3s, imagine if he was guarding quicker guys at the 2... You can't say a guy is bad at guarding this position so why not let him play a different position, because it would be more difficult and you'd lose more playing that way.

He's certainly got the handles for the 2 spot, no doubt. But I guess he's just more suited to the SF and a bit of power foward

It really depends on what the opposing team's lineup looks like, and also who would you want to play at the 3-5 spots for the Nugs if Melo is playing at the 2? Al, Nene, Birdman, Shelden Williams, and Forbes are really the only options at those spots, while you have Billups, Lawson, Afflalo, and JR competing for minutes at the 1 and 2. I think Melo is best fit at the 3 right now both in terms of his skill set and the players around him on the Nuggets. If Melo goes elsewhere, this could become something to talk about, but I don't see an issue right now.

it is not necessary but generally the 2 guard is expected to be a better three point shooter than Melo

Melo can't play the two because he doesn't.

Why can't Melo play at the 1?

He's not quick enough to guard 2s and is overall not that good of a defender to go up against who he will see.
He also doesn't shoot the 3 at over 40%
Playing him at the two would also negate most of his rebound potential.
Playing him at the 2 would slow down the team's transition game.

Just think of Melo following reddick or ray Allen around in the court with a bunch of screens in his way

He'd get absolutely torched on the defensive end.

Saw a video recently of him saying he can play all five positions.

C - Melo

He's not quick and fast enough to play the 2.

I know you want him to play the 2 because you want him to come to the Knicks and Tyson Chandler is playing well at the 3 and the Knicks are gutted at the 3.

Because its not his position.

He's no Magic Johnson, playing at his not-position.

He's a mismatch every single night... Because he's bigger and faster and better then every small forward besides lebron. Why put him elsewherE?

Because a scorer who is also a skilled post player has no business hanging around the perimeter every game.

Didnt you see the new commercial? Melo can play all 5 positions, come off the bench, coach, and sit in the crowd at all times

Not sure about some posts but this is what i was looking for inparticular. And yes I dont want to give up Gallo at the 3 for him. Id love to have him but I think my team would be better with them both then just the Melo.

But i'll still take him if we can swing it....but i'll miss Gallo's stroke from 3.

better question is Why cant Gallo play the 2 and leave the All-Star SF at his position?
