Two of the top teams in the West are playing right now in New Orleans. Spurs were getting dominated early on, but they turned on the heat impressively in this second half (especially in the 4th) and are up 10. Impessive.

In related news, Manu finally getting the starts/minutes he deserves is doing wonders for them (surprise surprise). I think he'll be a legit MVP candidate this year.

Good to see someone giving Manu the props he deserves. He was owning the Hornets D at will in the second half. Aside from Kobe, there may not be a more creative scorer in the league.

Impressive bounceback win...we flipped it on after getting drubbed the first two quarters.

I agree, he's still a little off. Statistically though, he's almost identical to last season. He's still the leagues leading scorer, and once his 3pt shooting invariably gets better (I say this as he drains a three right now), he's going to be right back at 30 a game with >45% shooting. I think his passing looks better, also.

Too bad for KD there, would've been a good boost for him/them.

Funny comment from the Rockets announcer right before the shot: "I think everyone in the building knows it's going to Russell Westbrook, it's just a matter of if he'll go to the hoop or not".

I had to check to make sure KD was on the court and not fouled out after that comment. Really odd.

Best part is that in the post-game interview just now, Shane Battier literally just said, "I think everyone in the building knew it was going to Kevin Durant, and he's so tall it's so tough to bother his shot", etc.

Tough loss in Houston for OKC though.

================================================== ==========

Close game here in New Jersey against Portland. Nets are up 3 with 40 to go; looks like they'll be reaching last seasons win total in a couple weeks here.

And that's such a ****** way to gauge a game of ****** calls. If a team drives more, they're going to get more calls.

Paul was clipped when Ibaka swung his elbows back which wasn't as bad as it would have been if Ibaka made initial contact. Regardless...

d. A technical foul shall be assessed for unsportsmanlike tactics such as:
(6) A deliberately-thrown elbow or any attempted physical act with no con-tact involved

Since about the age 5, we are taught to lift our elbows and protect the ball when grabbing a rebound. He was being fouled by David West, so he did what you're supposed to do; protect the basketball and bring elbows up. There would have been absolutely nothing called had Paul not flopped.

Somewhat on topic, if Phoenix makes the playoffs over Portland somehow and the rest of the playoff teams qualify, there will be seven great point guards in one conference. That's a lot of great matchups in the making with Paul, Deron, Westbrook, Parker, Nash, Billups, Kidd, and... Fisher.

The East has not nearly as many of such quality, but Rose/Rondo certainly gave us a show a couple of years ago, and that was when Rondo was just breaking out and Rose was a rookie. Imagine what a show we would have with some of these aforementioned stars out West.
