In the other thread we talked about who would have the title if the points system was the old one and I found out.

2004 Jeff Gordon
2005 Tony Stewart
2006 Jimmie Johnson
2007 Jeff Gordon
2008 Carl Edwards
2009 Jimmie Johnson
2010 Kevin Harvick

So Johnson would only have two and Gordon would have six.

Three Arguments here

1) we dont use the "classic" points system, so it really doesnt matter

2) Every team that competes to win the championship have all said they race different, and change the way they race because of the chase so it is nearly impossible to say all of the results throughout the coarse of the year would have been exactly the same.

3) The "classic" points system wasnt used every year before the chase. The "classic" points system was actually the sixth different point system NASCAR has used to determine the champion.

All im saying is that a more accurate statement would be these are the drivers that would have won the championship had everything played out exactly the same. Its impossible to say these are the drivers that would have won the championship.

The only thing that this says to me is that it's tough to compare this generation of drivers with ones from decades ago. When we're arguing who the better driver is between someone from today and someone from the '80s, it's near impossible.

Bingo, kinda like saying well if the NFL still had a 14 game season these teams would have made the playoffs and that team wouldnt have won the superbowl...
