I mean seriously you have Gasol, Duncan, Melo, Dirk, Durant you can vote for at Forward, and basically no one worth a hill of beans to vote for a center?

Horrible list of centers in the west. Why not just put Gasol or Duncan there?

Because Stern wants to keep the china market happy. It's all about business. I am pretty sure that the thought of putting Gasol and Duncan (who are actually playing center) on the center list came up and immediately Stern said "No ****!!! Take both of them off that list! I need Yao to make it at center"!!!

All those picking Rondo, I have a question: Without 3 Super-Stars, where would Rondo be? He can't even shoot. Put him on Bulls team and they would be last in the East. Watch Rose for just one game, the dude got mad game....light years ahead of Rondo at this point.

Rondo is light years ahead as a passer and as a defender. Rose is a scoring guard and that's the ONLY thing he does better than Rondo. Rondo is playing out of his mind this season. Rondo deserves every bit to be the starting all-star point guard. (Now please, don't make it a Rose vs Rondo thread, I just expressed my opinion).

I really don't have a problem with Rondo getting in because he is playing well. But for someone to laugh at Rose being voted in as if it is a joke is something I consider pretty much trolling.

You're asking the wrong question. Where would the Celtics be at this point w/o Rondo? He sets his teammates up for wide open looks with his amazing passing and court-vision. He's an amazing defender, and he WILL knock down the mid-range jumper if you leave him open. He's by far the most important player to his team, and a top-5 MVP candidate at this point.

East:

Rondo
Wade
Lebron
Bosh (homerish at this point, but I think it'll be more justifiable closer to Feb.)

lol @ so many people picking Rondo. Rose is averaging around 9 assists per game WITHOUT Boozer. Rondo has around 15 with 3 HOFers and a system/coach he's been around for a while.

Rondo - 10.9/14.9/4.9

Rose - 25.5/8.7/3.6

Both have the same exact FG%, though Rose has taken an extra ~100 attempts. Rondo technically has Rose beat in 3pt% (40% to Rose's 34%) but he's only taken 5, while Rose has taken 38.

And compare Rose to Wade (24/3.5/6) who most would agree is a virtual lock as a starter... Rose beats Wade in PPG, stomps him in APG, and gets beat in RPG (but Chicago has a MUCH better rebounding frontcourt soooo). Yeah.

And now you know...

Sir Buckets

Why are you guys soo concerned with who starts between Rondo and Rose? I could care less. It is an allstar game. Rondo in the allstar game more or less will make it exciting with his passes to the other guys on the team, while Rose will make it exciting by the way he moves through the lane and scores.

It's quite simple actually. If my star players are Lebron and Wade, then I want Rondo starting simply because I know he is going to be giving the rock to us a bunch of times on the court and be throwing some flashy passes.

David Robinson was starting over Hakeem a few years in the allstar game. Shawn Kemp was starting over Karl Malone a few times as well. This is about what fans want to see and fans want to see flashy passes and spectacular plays.

How can someone pick Bynum to start.

Its simple. Yao is down in minutes, Oakafor is alright but does not have star potential or the stats to back him up, Mark Gasol would get destroyed in that game i can honestly see him shrinking on the court going against and all those stars and Howard would muder him. Bynum when healthy is better then everyone on that list aside from Yao. Bynum has star potential and have the better stats to back him up seeing that he gets those stats with Kobe, Pau, and Odom on his team. Right before the Lakers traded for Pau he was an beast. Maybe your being east bias but on the west i see how he gets down when healthy.

G - Kobe Bryant
F - Carmelo Anthony
F - Pau Gasol
C - Emeka Okafor

East
G - Rajon Rondo
G - Dwyane Wade
F - LeBron James
F - Josh Smith
C - Dwight Howard

This all-star game will be first for Josh Smith, guy is a beast.
East team has excellent chemistry:
Rajon Rondo - pure point guard who will distribute the ball to the guys.
Wade and LeBron - main offence on the team, killer slashers
and under the basket we have DPOY in D12 and runner-up DPOY in J-Smoove, who both are freakily athletic and have great offence also.
This is the most athletic and most defensive lineup in NBA, which will crush West all-stars easily.

Yeah... I'm the one being biased

All this talk about Bynum being a great player when healthy, his career avgs are 10 and 7 and his best season was when he had: 15 and 8. Lets not forget that we don't know how he will recover. Bynum won't be an allstar this year.

does it really matter who starts between Rondo and Rose? both are gonna be on the team for sure...

My guess would be Rondo starting because of the crazy assists stats, but why make such a big deal outta this crap? I bet half of us won't even watch the game.

He was absolutely right. Don't kid yourself. Rondo's been defining the point guard position with his stunning charisma. He is taking it to a different level. Rose is a better shooter than Rondo and that's about it. Rondo is better in every other aspect with a healthy margin. It's not hating on Rose but just acknowledging the fact. I am a Heat fan and I dislike the celtics, yet I can't deny Rondo's greatness. CP3 is my #1 point guard but if Rondo can add a decent jump shot to his game then it's over.

As of right now?... No he doesn't, Rondo is more deserving.

I know, but he's more deserving to start than any of the PFs in the East IMO.

If they see how people vote Rajon Rondo in, instead of Rose, they start to brag how Rose is better etc. Enough of your Rose 2nd MJ crap. If you don't see, people vote Rondo for a reason, because Rondo>Rose, enough said.

I would say Josh Smith deserves more. Guy was never voted for All-Star game and he is obviously an All-Star caliber player, besides he can put some show. He plays PF and Horford C, so this should go to J. Smith.

Millsap, my man, we whiffed in leaving you off the ballot

Paul Millsap, I'm taking this opportunity to issue a public apology. This isn't made on the behest of some PR firm or through a bunch of handlers -- as if I had any. It's from the heart. And this apology needs to be made today, right now, as the 2011 NBA All-Star Ballot is revealed.

All that said ... Millsap, buddy, I hope you make it. For the last 32 days, I've regretted my decision not to be more firm, more passionate, more argumentative about getting you on the ballot. I toed the company line, even though I knew I was wrong. I sat in on a conference call back on Oct. 19 and tried to state my case that you should be on the ballot.

Paul, I let you down.

I didn't stand up to the rest of the panel that selects the names that go on the ballot. But how am I expected to debate ESPN.com's J.A. Adande? The guy is on Around the Horn. Marc Spears? C'mon, those dudes at Yahoo! know everything.

The Toronto Star's highly respected Doug Smith? Ian Thomsen of Sports Illustrated? Helloooo.

I listened and interjected where I could, trying to convince the group to give Millsap has rightful place on the ballot. I suggested placing his Utah teammate Al Jefferson at center, allowing Millsap space to swim in the forward pool.

The belief from at least one of the esteemed panelists was that Mehmet Okur was on the verge of return and needed to be included among Western Conference centers.

No way, I thought. Okur, as far as I can tell, isn't close to coming back from a torn Achilles suffered in the playoffs. Utah officials are privately bracing for post-Christmas when it comes to seeing Okur in uniform.

Millsap was in for a big year. I just knew it. The Jazz let a 20-10 man (Carlos Boozer) walk to open up room for this four-year pro out of Louisiana Tech. Utah knows something about power forwards out of La. Tech. But since he's not Karl Malone, the overriding opinion was Millsap wasn't ready to be one of the West's 24 best forwards.

Well, he's averaging 21.5 points and 9.5 rebounds. He's racked up five double-doubles.
He pulverized Miami for a career-high 46 points last week. His scoring rate checks in 19th in the league going into today.

Twenty-five of the top 26 scorers are on the ballot. Millsap is not.

Seventeen of the top 19 rebounders made our list. Millsap did not.

I made a feeble Millsap push, but at least I wasn't completely alone. "I went hard for Millsap," Adande recalled. "I had to give in to the crowd."

As for the rest of the ballot, I don't have many complaints. Picking the names is a handwringing process paring down some lists or coming up with enough names for others. Each team had to be represented at least three times, further complicating matters. Votes and re-votes were taken to come to a consensus on 24 guards and forwards, and 12 centers for each conference, for 120 players.

Mavericks guard Jason Terry, currently averaging 19.3 points, was a tough cut. Looking back, I'm not sure why we included Mario Chalmers, other than being a member of the Heat. A few nods were given more on reputation than actual chances of making the All-Star team. Grant Hill of the Suns comes to mind, as does Lakers guard Derek Fisher.

I hope our little group can go on despite the Millsap misstep. (TNT's Marv Albert participated in the selection process via email, so I'm leaving him off the hook.) In the end, though, I have only myself to blame. It takes a big man to admit he was wrong, even if you're only 5-foot-9, and I've learned my lesson.

If I'm ever given the honor to take part in the ballot process again, I'm going to yell from the mountain top if I have to. Or at least from my cell phone. I owe it to you, Paul.

It's not really hate. It's just that Rondo is the best PG in the East.

The fact that he can play arguably top 5 perimeter defense along with being a great passer and good enough of a scorer warrants him a starting spot. He's also playing on a top team in the East. Sure he's got a better team but he's the reason that team is doing good. Cuz only God knows how production on that team will happen without Rondo.

Not saying Rose isn' good, its just Rondo is playing better.

The guy is not 100% healed right now and he is potential starter for Miami Heat.
It's like 3 months till the all-star game so he has plenty of time to prove himself, but yeah he can't be an all-star this year.

The fact that you're even hinting at defending his position on the ballet is killing your credibility, stop being a homer. The guy is not even a young kid - he's 24. And he has shown zero potential to be an impact player in the NBA, let alone all-star caliber. Whoever put him on the ballet is either his mom, or should be fired. Likely both.
