View Full Version : H2H: Do you build a specialist or all-around team?

Been playing for about 15 years in H2H leagues with percentage and turnover stats. I used to hate punting categories, so I've always built teams with players who have all-around good numbers. I've done fairly well, but this year, I went with the specialist draft, and am no lower than 2nd place in all my leagues.

Which is the best strategy in H2H category based leagues?

Create teams filled with guys that excel in certain categories like Ray Allen (points, threes, FT %) and Rajon Rondo (assists, steals) who punt you in other categories, or grab players that have solid overall numbers, with no punt categories (Melo, Durant)?

I like to have all around good players in all leagues. For example, I do better if I go for 5-tool players in baseball. In hockey and basketball, you can't always have someone contribute to just about every category, but some categories such as shooting percentage and +/- in hockey or FG% and other shooting percentages in basketball should be considered for all players.

If someone is available who can do it all, go for him. However, getting specialists in 2-3 categories can be effective as well. It really depends on who is available. Definitely avoid guys who are simply scores and no more (Kevin Martin)...
