The Suns are expected to sign veteran center Earl Barron after learning that starting center Robin Lopez will miss several weeks because of a left knee sprain.

Barron owns career averages of 5.5 points per game and 3.7 rebounds.

Barron could join the team for Wednesday's game at Miami, pending that he passes a physical. He would sign a non-guaranteed contract.

Barron averaged 11.7 points and 11.0 rebounds over seven games late last season for New York, which employs a similar system with ex-Suns coach Mike D'Antoni.

Suns President of Basketball Operations Lon Babby said Lopez's knee damage was "a little bit more serious than we first thought it would be."

He'll be the backup to Frye while Lopez is out. We'll see what he can do, he's going to need to impress early if he wants to earn playing time later this season.

Or remain with the team at all.

PHX's front line is still soft as pudding without Lopez.

Fye, Warrick, and Barron are all 230-240ish forwards who can't rebound and don't play physical. Playing Turk at the 4 doesn't help the situation either.

They are about as soft as the Miami front line.

I'm not so sure about that. Chris Bosh is having a terrible rebounding year so far and still out averages every single player on the Suns who play at a faster pace.

suns bench beasts over heats bench.. suns have a dumb schedule with only playing the elite teams so suns are expecting nothing new.. nash goes ballistic on tougher teams for some reason.. sweet game overall cant wait!
