How much longer does Tim Duncan have to be an elite player? Is this his last year being a top 15 player or so in the NBA?

I don't even think he's elite anymore in the true sense of the word.

Elite to me means a top 3-5 player in the league...he's arguably not even top 10 at this point of his career.

Depends. He's not going to put up the stats anymore due to the slow decline, and also the fact that this Spurs team is probably the best offensive team we have had since Duncan has been here. Also the fact that he is probably only going to be playing about 30 mins a game or so in the regular season.

However he still looks good, still playing great defense, rebounding, good post moves..and his jumper has looked pretty good this year. I still think hes a top 15 player in the league.

He can put up 15 and 10 when he's 40.

So he will still be pretty good for a couple more seasons.

As long as he feels like playing the game.

Duncan's not elite now, nor was he elite last year. He's still a top 10 PF but statistically he's on the DECLINE. I give him 2 more years of playing good basketball, and then his numbers will tank like Shaqs....

we wont be able to tell until playoff time because popovic is going to limit his minutes to keep him healthy/fresh for playoffs.

His minutes have declined, as someone mentioned Pops tries to save Duncan for the playoffs. That said, Duncan's efficiency has remained remarkably consistent throughout his career and no doubt he is still an elite player and one the five best PFs in the league.

4-5 more seasons. the big fundamental will be resilient through a physical decline.

Shaq's decline has been unreal for a big man with the number of games he has played, what are you talking about?
Also, Duncan's efficiency is as good today as it was any year, not sure how you say his stats are declining. Top 10? Ya think?

nevermind, you handled it. It makes me sick when people STILL overlook Duncan, and how much of a cyborg he is when it comes to consistency.

Statistically - he`s not elite anymore.
Being a pylon on his team - 1,2 years max.

He's on the decline, but he's the big man of the century and arguably the greatest big man of all time.

Tim is the man..but I dont think he will be looked at as elite still unless the spurs are a top team.. Tim has never been flashy..but his fundamentals has always made him great.. I believe he will be elite as long as hes in the league.. Im pretty sure if the Spurs where to become a non playoff team people would think Tim needs to retire or something lol.. Lets face it he isnt the kinda player who can take over a game or stage a comeback.. but he does do the key things it takes to win

Exactly. His PER is right where it's always been and his per 36 minutes are still similar. I honestly think he'll retire before he falls out of the elite range. He's not a ring chaser.

He isn't a top 5 player anymore and it's clear Pop is reducing his minutes this year more than ever. He doesn't look as springy or mobile as previous years, finally looking his age. But since the rest of our team is stepping up...he doesn't need to carry the team right now.

Holy crap JB...I just noticed you make all the same threads on the RGM boards, and you have an insane amount of posts over there as well! How is your social life going? :p

Shaq is a very different kind of big man from Duncan. Duncan actually has range and post moves that don't require him overpowering everyone. Not to mention the physical differences...

I'd still take him as a Top 3 PF adjusted for 36 minutes. The problem is that you can't simply adjust his minutes for 36 in real life as there are reasons why he isn't playing more each game.

His real decline at the moment is in durability, leading to less minutes played and less opportunity.

2-3 yrs. He is older, but he is still in good shape and has not had any serious injuries.
