It's a little ridiculous how good the Thunder have become at drawing fouls/executing the free throws. They're 223/254, which = 88%. At it again tonight where they're 21/24 against SA.

And Westbrook has just transformed into an absolute machine. Attacks much more aggressively now, he's an elite rebounder for a pg and is now an efficient scorer (thanks in large part to 8+ FT's a game at 90+%) That's a top 3 pg.

The Thunder are becoming one of the elite teams. If they don't reach the 2nd round then it would be a disappointment. They're still a good big man and upgrade at SG away from being a championship team though.

IMO Tyreke could've been a better fit than Harden.

Yeah eh - I don't think Tyreke fits that team well. He doesn't have a 3pt shot, and he's not the most effective team player (that's probably being generous). Sefalosha might be the best man-defender in the NBA at SG, so while he's worthless offensively, he has an important place there.

Ibaka's becoming a pretty monstrous big, but they could definitely do well with another banger in there. Aldrich will help their shot-blocking/rebounding and defense when he's ready, but it looks like he's not quite there.

Well, there's this guy Westbrook they have that I was just talking about...

Harden may be struggling now (easy to Monday night quarterback), but he's still a large guard who fits their team needs (3pt shooting, namely) well. Kid's only 21, I think he'll get there. But again, Tyreke would've been a terrible fit. OKC has fantastic team chemistry and well established offense/roles on the team; from everything we hear about Evans as a teammate (or watch in games), I could see him disrupting that hugely.

Watching the Knicks right now, and I gotta be honest, they look... horrible. About to be booed out of the gym by their home crowd, and Stoudemire consistently trying to create his own shot and subsequently turning it over in this 4th quarter is bordering on depressing. Ouch.

I hate those T's also, but it's the rule now - that was a blatant one. Truth is that shot never should have happened. Kobe traveled TWICE on that play; can't believe it wasn't called.

Psh superstars never travel :laugh2:

Seriously, I can't remember too many times a Kobe, a Nash, a Lebron, or a Paul got called for too many travels. Almost every ball carrying star travels multiple times per game. Sad really.

Looks like Lakers lost this one unfortunately. That T cost em, and the Suns were making everything. Not much could be done.

Kobe's pretty close to the ever-elusive quad-double (w/ turnovers).

And the Suns 3's are insane. One away from the NBA record. Kobe just thought he'd try his own there (from 40, really Kobe?), not so much.

And I think Stu Lantz just made a great point. The Suns were just as demonstrative as Odom was on that play.

Odom did the double tap with his arms and looked at the ref with a "C'mon!". I think Stu just raised his arms quickly in frustration, but didn't face the refs or say a word, so that's probably what got him off. That said, I saw Lebron do something really similar to that after a blown call this year, and they did T him for it.

The rule is just ******** in general. The fact that you have to be devoid of all emotion after a call (the most emotional coming after blatantly blown calls, like Odom's) is just ridiculous. Stern needs to loosen up on this hair trigger big time before it starts deciding major/more emotional games.

Lakers are playing pretty poorly lately, sucks. But I'm not too worried about it... they'll get better as the season goes along. Haha it only took the Suns 22 three's which is 2nd most in NBA history to beat them by 5 or whatever it was.

Combo of both really

It was just the Suns night, but that's mainly due to the Lakers poor defensive performance.. You can't expect to give teams an easy night, but then tighten up your D late in the game. Doesn't work that way. The lineup of Luke/Sasha/Brown somehow gave us momentum :laugh2: Brown should have stayed in the game since he had the hot hand.

What it came down to was defense though, 121 points allowed by a championship contender team is way too much.

Jenceman
11-15-2010, 01:06 AM
Yeah definitely a combo of both. Lakers poor rotations early got the Suns going, so even when the Lakers tightened up the D in the 4th the Suns were still making ridiculous shots.

Odom and Childress did completely different things.
Odom swung his fists at the officials and said something, Childress just put his hands over his face in disbelief and said nothing.

I feel like Brown's had the hot hand all year, the guy looks like he's transformed himself into a bona fide sharp-shooter over the summer. He's a pretty dangerous player off the bench for them this season. The past couple games aside, the Lakers = scary good, and this is without Bynum. Pisses me off.

It happens. People should realize that this Lakers team is a work in progress still. No Blake tonight due to a flu...Kobe still not 100%, No Bynum till the end of this month, and even when Drew comes back, it'll take some time to get the chemistry back with Drew starting, and Lamar going to get bench. Blake and Barnes still need probably till the mid-way point to understand the triangle fully. But its better that its at the start of the year, I actually expected the Lakers to start really slowly this year. So even though they dropped 2 in a row... 8-2 isn't bad at all, and they lost 2 really tight games. Still they've not played to their potential, which is common with most Phil Jackson teams to start our the year. Suns will make the playoffs too, probably face them in the 1st or 2nd round I'm guessing. Gonna be fun.

Phoenix deserved the win tonight though. Lakers played lazy, like they have been all year long, and the Suns took advantage.

It probably gets easier later. Better tough schedule now while teams are still searching for their identity than having to face a team thats ready to go later on.

The tech rule is so stupid... I know according to the rules now, Odom deserved it... but c'mon. Most useless rule change. First hard fouls have become flagrant 2's with a possible suspension, now this? It's a stupid rule, plain and simple. Unfair to all the players in the league... and if its is going to be called... call it anytime except in the 4th quarter when the game is tight. Of course people are gonna have high emotions yeesh.
Again, Odom deserved it according to the rules, and shoulda thought about it before doing it... but really, basketball is arguably one of the most emotional sports to play. So fast paced that you go from highs to lows on each possession.

I said this in the LA game thread so I'll just quote it to add to what you are saying:

We didn't start contesting until we went to Luke and Lamar at the 4 and 5. Switching with Pau, Artest, and Fish on the court just ****ed us in the *** because of mobility issues.

To be honest every time this team has struggles this year it has been to small ball. The Denver game, the phoenix game, the late surge by Sacramento, the Minny game, and even the 4th quarter of the Houston game.

We have dominated the bigger lineups of all teams and the two teams who refused to go small at all in Golden State and Portland.

You really see the fact this team has 5 totally new rotation players playing on defensive rotations as two guys either go for the same rotation or choose to not rotate at all under the assumption a teammate has it. Last year the offense with the team really didn't click early as the tried to adjust to Ron replacing Trevor and making Pau & Drew fit together.

What I'm saying is that we are a work in progress. We are 8-2 which is great, but we still have yet to really build chemistry and trust on our team defense. Guys are doing their own 1 on 1 job, but don't know one another which should be corrected later in the year. So lets not worry or panic, and just accept the fact that this team will have to learn how to cover for one another just like that team last year had to learn how to share the ball together.

shep33
11-15-2010, 02:30 AM

I didn't realize he got hit in the nuts, i thought he definitely got fouled up high though too, which was obvious. I must've missed that, I wasn't listening to the Phoenix guys, I was watching the lakers telecast, and they didnt mention it... at least not that I can remember. It's still the rule though, it's still gonna be called...

But that's exactly the problem with the tech rule... you said it best yourself, anybody would've reacted that way. That's why I don't like it... if they're gonna call it within the final minute of a tight game, and it helps decide the outcome... then the league has to look at it. It's an awful rule, really unfair to emotional players especially in tight games.

I think it is a crap situation to put the refs in too because there is going to be a big game where they go by the rule and some idiot fan is going to do something stupid like throw something or threaten them and their safety.

Experience was the difference in the Spurs vs. Thunder game. After the first quarter, the OKC showed their youth and went on cruise control the rest of the way while the Spurs kept their focus and composure, despite not shooting well early on.

But then BONNER! changed all that with that barrage of threes which allowed the Spurs to pull away some. And OKC learned the hard way that, well, check my sig...

Suns shooting was the ultimate difference. The tech on odom was only one of about 3 or 4 terrible fouls odom committed in the second half. He had two other backcourt fouls that were awful. All lead to free throws in the backcourt. Got to be one of the lowest basketball IQ in the league
