View Full Version : What should Washington do with Gilbert Arenas?

With John Wall proving to be the real deal it is obvious now that you build your team around him and not Arenas.
If that is the case, what should Washington do with Gilbert Arenas and if they decide to trade him what could they get for him?

To Toronto for the 14 million TPE they got from bosh trade and 5 million Reggie Evans expiring contract

He isn't going anywhere. He has four years and more than 80 million dollars left on his contract. He is about as untradable as is humanly possible. The only thing they can do is keep him on the team, or release him and eat the money.

If I were Houston, I'd consider trading Martin/Brooks for Arenas.

Gives the Wizards a SG in Martin but also gives the Rockets a lineup of

PG Arenas
SG Lee
SF Battier
PF Scola
C Yao or Miller

I'd release him. The guy is bad for the team and should be let go.

Regarding the first part, I don't think there was any question that Wall was the face of the franchise, not Arenas

With that said, I think the Wizards would be best off trying to trade him for a big expiring contract because that's most likely all they'll be able to get for him.

I would love to see the NBA do what they did a few years ago when they let every NBA buy out one guys contract and it did not count against the cap. The only one I remember is that Dallas released Michael Finley, but there were some other ones too. They were redoing the CBA and put it in as a one time thing, but I think they should allow every team to do that once every so many years.

Then change name back to Bullets? :rimshot: Too far?

Seriously though - trade to find trade partner - if not buy out. Anyone willing to take on a 4 years 80 million contract on a guy who missed two seasons for injuries followed by another from suspension is obviously desparate to try something. Find the most desperate buyer. Best case scenario: You get an expiring deal.

Trade him to the Wolves for a 2nd round pick. Easy. We need a PG, Ridnour is injured and so is Flynn.

Arenas contract and disposition is exactly why the cba negotiations will grind down to the last minute. He is everything that is wrong with the health of nba progress.

Trade him to Charlotte with Hilton Armstrong for Diaw, Diop, and Carroll? :hide: Doubt Charlotte would do it. Think the Wiz are screwed.

The Wizards don't really have any options, if they attempt to trade him they will not get the value back they want but I do have an Idea, I was watching the Cavs and they have a really solid team (solid point guard play, shooters, bench scoring, big men, good fast break) but they don't have that go to guy. I think the Cavs should trade for Gilbert & try to give up as little as possible and I know nobody will agree but with Gilbert the Cavs would definately make the playoffs and be an interesting team to watch

Arenas is simply not the same player anymore. Martin > Arenas

Put him back in the starting line up, at least he can still shoot the 3 ball. If anything they need to acquire a better wing that can shoot the 3 and not be a liability on defense. Al Thornton is a solid young player but that dude can't shoot for crap 9% for the season and 29% career 3pt?

Try to find a deal with multiple teams. Maybe a three way deal with the Pistons and someone else. Pistons could trade Ben Gordon, Teyshaun Prince, or Charlie Villanueva. A third team could get involved, send someone young and nab Prince or Gordon.
