I can't wait for this year. I think it's very wide open with no clear cut favorite. I could see KSU, KU, Mizzou, Baylor or possibly Texas winning the conference.

Of course as much as I am looking forward to this year, next year and the years beyond should be even better. With Colorado and Nebraska leaving, we should have the deepest conference from top to bottom in the country. Iowa State should be very good next year with all of our transfers being able to play. Ugh, there I go again getting ahead of myself. Anyway, my predictions for this year are:

Kansas State
Kansas
Mizzou
Baylor
Texas
Texas A&M
Colorado
Oklahoma State
Texas Tech
Nebraska
Oklahoma
Iowa State

k-state or KU will win the conference. Mizzou should be really good too

Colorado will be better. They still won't win the conference but they definitely won't finish last. Burks and Higgins are both great players, the Buffs just don't have much rebounding.

Fred Hoiberg won in his debut last night. Even though we aren't supposed to be very good this year, this is the first time I have really excited about the future of Iowa State basketball in a long time. Next year is going to be awesome.

Iowa State defeated Drake tonight 91-43 and Scott Christopherson was perfect from the field. 29 points, 11-11, 5-5 and 2-2. Great all around game for him.

That Thompson kid is going to be a freakin stud. Very impressive performance last night.

One of the worst free throw shooters I've ever seen though.

I'm not sure if I've ever seen a worse last second shot than what I just saw.

I wouldn't even consider that a shot, it was that bad.

Iowa State hit a half court shot at the buzzer to beat Creighton. It shouldn't have counted but since the game wasn't on TV, they couldn't review it. Lucky break but I'll take it.

That game was a nightmare for Jeff Capel haha

Josh Selby makes his debut for Kansas today at noon EST on ESPN.

Right now i would say the order of the Big 12 teams are
1.Kansas
2.Mizzou
3.Texas
4.Baylor
5.Kansas St.
6.Texas A&M
7.Okie St.
8.Iowa St.
9.Colorado
10.Nebraska
11.Oklahoma
12.Texas Tech

Back to back good games for Selby coming off his suspension.

Another 18 last night against UCLA. He's the real deal.

This Jayhawks are stiff right now! Assess the team after a big game.

Selby & Robinson are the only players playing to their full potential. Both the Morris brothers could be definitely dominating, but their choosing not to. Their game last night against UT-Arlington was just sloppy.

With that said, Mizzou & K-State will be our biggest competition coming up.

Iowa State had a nice road win tonight against Virginia. Were going to be a lot better than everyone thought.

Robinson has been great this season. Honestly a REALLY pleasant surprise. He has the physical tools, but the question mark around him was passion and basketball IQ. He looks like a legitimate pro prospect right now.

I think Reed has been playing really well too. He's taken his role and adapted really well. He's sort of a glue guy. Great shooter, pretty solid on defense, though not a primary option on offense. Very important piece to the puzzle, though.

With the start of the Big XII season on Saturday, here are my predicted standings.

Kansas
Texas
Mizzou
Texas A&M
Kansas State
Baylor
Oklahoma State
Iowa State
Colorado
Nebraska
Texas Tech
Oklahoma

Corey

I think Mizzou is going to get exposed in big 12 play.

They could finish as low as 5th or 6th IMO. I could be dead wrong, they just don't impress me this year.

KU puts it's undefeated record on the line today against Michigan.

Michigan isn't great this year, and they're coming off a loss, but that's a tough place to play at Ann Arbor.

I'll be on upset watch, but hopefully KU handles business. It's their last out of conference game of the season.

Kansas is coming up huge in this game!

Robinson & Morris are amazing. Robinson has been amazing, but Morris is playing like he needs to, which is efficient rebounding and down low post points.

Great game so far, but Nebraska is still in this!

KU is one of the most overrated top 5 teams in a long time. They could have 5 losses this season and they are letting teams they should blowout, stay in the game until the end. It's going to come back to bite them in the *** sooner or later.

They aren't playing too their full potential at all, their ability to give up stupid points and win is pissing me off (as of late).

That said, we have some of the best depth in the conference/nation. We play our best ball against our Big 12 conference and that has begun. Thank god teams like Nebraska & Colorado are relevant again making these games alot more entertaining this year.

haha,funny

their not overrated cause it only matters when the ncaa tourney starts. sure i want them to win them all, but its not going to happen.

the loss @ CU was embarassing, even if CU is improved.

the loss to G-town is still a loss, not making excuses, but 3 points should have never been on the board.

the loss @ TAMU both teams had a chance to win, but TAMU made the plays they needed to

16-3 and 2 of the L's in OT is far from overrated

Should be noted that KU played without Thomas Robinson because of the death of his mother, and the whole team had plans to fly out for the funeral right after the game (funeral is Wednesday)

I'm honestly surprised KU put out a decent effort. I would have been drained if I was a Jayhawk, or was even remotely good friends with Robinson.

I believe the actual services for Ms. Robinson are Thursday, but the whole team is flying out today to get there in time. They will fly back Thursday night, and start preparing for K-State on Saturday.

Wouldn't be surprised if K-State won because of all the traveling and emotions running. Some things are more important, and I hope Thomas Robinson and his family are okay.

They did for respect's sake, but losing Clemente is really showing. I understand their issues, but they have handled it the worst way possible. They're actually worse with their team fully healthy & fully eligible.

in mu recruiting news, otto porter a top 50 recruit said after his last game he was down to MU and georgetown. he restated that he is leaning towards MU.

the kid needs to bulk up some, its more then a little but not a lot.

as a mu fan the recruits im keeping an eye on in the next few years are:

stokes out of memphis, legit big man probably one and done, he is down to mu, memphis and tennessee. some 7 footer (i cant think of his name, saw it in another forum)objet/ojet?????maybe????, and wainwright a sick sf that is very high on MU in the 2013 class. he has already came to mu for a visit, i believe its not official, since he is a 2013 prospect.

as a mu fan id love mclemore, but he is gone to ku, before ku fans get all upset, his mother did nothing wrong by wanting him to play close to home. brad beal committed to florida, and yet he and his mother visited MU before signing day. parents will always have their kids ear, but the kid has to decide where he wants to go. otto porters father played at semo, and wants his son to attend there, but also said he wants his son close to home. thats why i think he will end up at MU. porter goes to a power conference on a scholly, and his father gets his wish of him staying close to home.

i would cream myself if they landed, beal, mclemore, and porter. i dont even care if beal and mclemore ended up being one and done. cause 2013 class has a chance to be a monster with all the schollies that will be available.

our current junior class was not that highly thought of to begin with. but they helped us get to the elite 8 a few years ago, imagine when, and i mean when. mike anderson starts landing top 15 classes at the worst year after year after year.:drool::drool::drool::drool::drool: he is one of the best at getting the most out of the talent he has

Kansas needs to sign DeAndre Daniels and Ben McLemore.

So far, they only have Naadir Tharpe signed. He projects out to be a pretty decent point guard, but still...McLemore and Daniels would be HUGE.

my computer muffed up big time last night, i just woke up, to early to do this again. any way i said top 50, which meant i wasnt going off of rivals. being i brought it up, why do i have to use your guy's site of choice?

rivals- porte 97, mclemore 14
scout- porter 66, mclemore 47
espn- porter 43, mclemore 49

so so apparently no site is accurate. how can one site have 1 player in the bottom 1/3 of their 150 list, and in the middle of the pack or around there on the other two sites???? then the other player is highly regarded on one site, and but drops off in the rankings on the other two sites.

according to rivals in FB mu used to only get 2 and 3 star players, but yet were able to get to #1 and had a chance if they won to play for NC?????????

mu's current junior class like i said has had more ncaa tourney success then ku's junior class. mu elite , then knocked out in 2nd round. ku sweet 16, then knocked out in 2nd round.(im not saying all time here, just an example for recruiting) im pretty sure that hen ku's junior class was still in hs and committed to ku, they were regarded as a much better class then mu's. so apparently rivals is not the end all, of all the there is to be in recruiting. they are a great site, just not the only site, or more accurate one. i wouldnt have posted this, except again i said top 50 player, which meant i was not talking about rivals. but other people want to discredit the kid, so i can discredit rivals

but, but if porter was ku bound, im sure he would be a top 50 player, in your posts, just saying

the only way missouri wins, is if kim english's last game was not a fluke, and he found his game again. if its just ratliff, denmon and pressey we are doomed from the tip. shelby might be the more hyped pg, but pressey is just as talented, denmon has been shut down on the road. ratliff can get points in the paint one on one vs the morris twins, if they double people like english have to hit shots.

Huh?

Taking a jab at me?

Look, Porter is a 6'8 power forward that weighs 190 pounds. Sure, weight can be added to that, but that's pitiful for someone his size. He's a guy that was tall early, so they forced him to play the 4, and now he's trying to convert back to the 3 because they realized he doesn't have the size to do so. Good mid range game, horrendous from deep, decent off the dribble. He's still WAY too thin for someone his size, and lacks the rebounding that someone his size should have.

lol, mclemore is a freaking twig, so it works both ways and unless he is in attack mode, he will not take open shots. porter set the missouri state record or rebounds in a game, in the state championship game. he may play at a smaller school, and in a lower level of state rankings. but derrick rose played in 2A in high school, so im pretty sure that worked out fine.

since i refuse to pay any site any money for recruiting infromation being apparently none of the 3 are accurate. ill use this free infromation:

Strengths:
This long and wiry forward is very skilled and can score in a variety of ways anywhere inside the arc with his superior mid range game. Porter knocks down jumpers off the catch and can make scoring plays off the dribble like a 6-3 wing. He shoots over smaller defenders like they are invisible. He hits pull ups going left or right and has the handle to beat his defender and create space or gain an advantage to get to his sweet spot in order to get off his shot. Porter has great length and anticipation which allows him to get deflections on a regular basis on the ball or in passing lanes on the defensive end of the floor. He runs the floor with long strides and can finish with great body control or pass the ball on the money to an open teammate. Porter is a good rebounder that can lead the break and if not boxed out he can burn the defense for a back breaking tip in. Porter is patient but in attack mode, smooth and a match up problem whether he is at the small forward or stretch power forward position.

Weaknesses:
Adding strength should be at the top of Porter's to do list. He did not attempt a three point shot so the jury is still out on how good a shooter he is from beyond the arc and he looks to have very good athletic ability although when he had opportunities to throw it down he choose to finger role so he explosiveness is not well documented yet.

Bottom Line:
Porter brings great length and skill to the forward position. He has a deadly mid range game and can make teammates better with his passing and willingness to share the ball. He has a great nose for the ball and along with his length allows him to get deflections and steals on a regular basis. Porter height, length and skill is what makes him a special player.

6'9 200 pounds

lets look at mclemore

Strengths:
Relatively new to the recruiting scene, McLemore is one of the most athletic wings in the 2011 class. He shows glimpses of an elite level player taking over segments of a game with his explosive scoring ability. He has a smooth stroke out to the 3-point arc and is a high flyer that finishes with an acrobatic flare in transition. His improved ball handling and play making skills have made him a more difficult match-up for less athletic defenders and his past experience as an inside player has aided him in his rebounding prowess on both ends of the floor. His length and quickness give him the potential to be a shutsown defender.

Weaknesses:
For all of McLemore's explosiveness and upside, there are still a couple areas that he will need to improve upon in order to take his game to the highest level. Fortunately, they are areas that are easily developed. McLemore needs time in the weight room to develop his wiry frame; in order to take the pounding at the highest levels an additional 10-15 pounds of muscle and the strength that goes with it will go a long way. Also, experience playing on the perimeter; he has a tendency to disappear for stretches and looks unsure at times while playing on the wing. Needs to take advantage of his talent by playing in attack mode at all times as opposed to only small stretches of games.

Bottom Line:
McLemore, who used to play mostly inside for his high school team, is still developing his perimeter game, but is naturally gifted and should evolve into one of the premiere wings in the country. His time spent at Oak Hill Academy should not only improve his game by competing daily against excellent teammates, but should also help prepare him for the rigors of college basketball.

another difference is porter who can "be deadly" from mid range, will play PF at mu, being they need the depth. he wont be a wing player.

both teams defense was god awful.

MU got into the lane at ease all game. the difference is they didnt do it enough, and ku stuck with the perimeter players instead of collapsing the D on the drive.

also i had the game on all night, but stoped paying attention when we fell behind by 12. but pressey was the one on MU that played great. unless denmon pulled a pullen when the game was over. i did not see his game show up. denmon is the best player on this team, and other then the A&M game he has not produced on road games.

You made valid points, but to say KU isn't a legit NCAA tourney threat is pretty bold. We have 1 loss, but it derived from the worst played half KU will play this year.

Tonight was a great example why we are a legit threat. We adjusted after an enemic 1st half and clobbered Mizzou on our home court. Something you do if you want to have respect going into the tourney. Not to mention, the depth that the Jayhawks possess.

Did you not notice Mario Little have his career high tonight, only to have it be on the night we were missing Josh Selby? A bench player stepping up just showcases our bench even more.

I think we could give Duke a run for their money in the Tourney.

Ohio State is the favorite in the W/L record, but Duke's experience is what makes them elite. Many of those players won the Tourney last year, they know how to play and execute when they really need to, and should taken into consideration over OSU.

It makes a difference. Whether you're seeded #1 or #2 it makes a difference. You should know that since you watch the Big 12 in the tourney. KU has fallen to lower seeds in the recent years. (I'm a KU follower) and we tend to not have the easiest route to the Final Four. There is a bunch of good competition out there once March arrives. We (KU) need a #1 seed. I personally want it.

Texas has lost 3 games, KU has lost one. Sorry, but we have the edge over Texas, and that debate over who won Kansas/Texas doesn't count because of one thing and one thing only, AP

You already listed your discretion, I share your AP views.

I think CU maybe the most underrated team in the Big 12. They never get any sort of recognition, when they truly deserve it. CU is improving year-after-year and people tend to try not to take notice, especially the national broadcasters. If CU was in the Big 10, they're taking at least 15-20 games, (imo)

ku squeaked b usc, and ucla, 2 bubble teams at best, and since i dont follow the weak 10, i bet their hoping for a nit bid. both games at ku.

the polls dont mean ****, sorry, but texas playing a tougher schedule and beating ku at ku, puts texas over ku. plus the big 12 is weak.

osu, duke, texas and pitt wins their tourney, book ku as a 2 seed. big east and big 10 are better, and duke is duke, and probably wont lose again all year, not even at unc.

again i said the polls dont mean **** to when it comes to tourney seeding. if ku wins the 12 tourney they should be a #1 seed, but if they finish wth one loss, and lose to texas again, then no they should not be.

According this report Monday by Evan Daniels of Scout.com, Kansas is in the lead for J-Mychal Reese, one of ESPNU's top-ranked point guards in the class of 2012.

"Right now I really like Kansas," Reese told Scout.com. "I like Kansas a lot. I just like the way they play. Their guards have the ball a lot and it's a fast paced game. That's why I like it."

The 6-foot-1, 170-pound junior is averaging 30 points and 7 assists per game this season, according to Daniels, and is looking at Texas A&M, Texas, Baylor, Oklahoma, Villanova, Kansas, Alabama, LSU, Memphis and Oregon.

Rated the No. 5 point guard in '12, Reese says he has yet to visit schools outside of Texas but claims that distance won't be a factor in his college choice. And that could come into play; Reese hails from Bryan, Texas, which is just five miles from the Texas A&M campus in College Station.

- Joe Kaiser

"Reese is a left-handed scoring machine. He has a very quick first step to the basket and he can finish with a variety of shots, including a nice runner/floater. If the paint is cut off by the defense, he has a tight pull-up jump shot. His shot is smooth and his range extends to 20-feet. Although he is a tremendous scorer, he does have the ability to find the open man as well. Defensively, he slides his feet very well and he has quick hands. ... Reese has had quite the reputation since his freshman season. He is an elite scorer and he has an abundance of confidence. Although he has point guard size he has too much of a scorer's mentality to make the transition. Overall, he'll be heavily recruited because of his potential of putting points on the board in a hurry and his competitive nature at both ends."

They'll get the job done.

I'm pretty sure KU/MU will assess this kid's situation the best way possible.

They're not going to waste energy on a kid who can't even make it through high school.

sorry for 3 posts here

but this, and the other 2 are all different in nature.

the officiating in all of college basketball has been horrible all year.

denmon gets blocked on a dunk with the same amount, if not more contact. then when ratliffe blocked the dunk on the next baylor possesion. but it gets called cause its dunn attempting the dunk.

we would think this, but MU never stopped on mitchell, granted the story on him came out after he committed to MU.

on a side not to my boston/ku buddy, manning was at otto porters last game scouting him, so while ku has not offered that i know of. they seem to have some interest in a kid you like to down grade over the offers he has according to your selective choosing.

Yeah. Mitchell's case is alot different.

McLemore just blew it, he's outta school, and KU/MU lost interest after this story broke.

back to missouri basketball.

i will never ask to replace CMA, but what the F was he doing the last 6 mins of that game?

playing english at the 4??????????? want to save ratliffe in case of OT, fine use moore and let him grab some fouls and foul out, let safford foul out, hell let ratliffe foul out. just play defense, you can not subtract defense for offense and win

Colorado needs someone to drop to make sure they make the tourney, but KSU playing well also makes Colorado sweeping them look better

odds of mike anderson taking the arkansas job, being espn seems to think he is a lock for it.

i say less then 10%

he is close to nolan richardson, AR treated richardson like scum on the way out the door, hell threw him out the door.

that is why i say little to no chance, its getting old hearing every year that anderson for this or that HC job.

we are not missouri state, no matter our history. MU is not a stepping stone to the crappy sec basketball, or any other college team.

I was pissed when Jake didn't get the ball at the end of the game. He was determined to play today but instead we went away from him for some reason.

Oh well, fitting end to the season. Another close loss that we should have won. Burks was awesome the second half and that probably clinched a spot for them in the tournament.

missouri can make a run, but they wont.

if they beat cincy tonight, and uconn is sluggish i think they will beat uconn on saturday. they played 5 games in 5 days, uconn really doesnt have depth at any ball handling positions, the smart idea if these two teams met, would to be pressure non stop after every made and missed basket

I've seen him play once at an open tourney. He has ridiculous hands and moves around the paint. Skinny as hell though.

If he bulks up, he could be a really talented four-man.

He went to the same school as Alex Oriakhi -- the big guy from UConn that had a good tournament.

A lot of people close to him have been saying this week that Trevor Lacey will choose KU over Alabama and UK. That would be HUGE for the Jayhawks recruiting class.
