View Full Version : Which Rookie has been the biggest surprise so far?

There are a few rookies who have been earnign minutes and playing well on some solid teams. We all know Wall, Cousins, Turner, and Griffen will be playing well, but there are some guys drafted late by good teams that are making some solid contributions.

Sermih Erden is getting about very few minutes, but is being very productive in those minutes, shooting 60% and grabbing 3 boards, more than I imagine most thought he would be doing considering Perkins, Shaq and J-O'Neal are all competing for minutes at the same position.

Gary Neal has seemingly sneaked into the Spurs rotation, despite the fact this rookie is fighting for minutes in a back court that includes, Parker, Hill, Ginoboli, posting an impressive 3p % so far (and helping extend opposing defences), and is handing out a almost a dime a game, while pulling in a rebound or two in very limited minutes.

Landry Fields is also posting impressive numbers. With a little over 20 minutes a game, his 8.7 points a game isnt too impressive, but the fact that he's shooting over 55% is, and his rebounding numbers (5.5) is solid, while his 1.5 assist may seem meek, but he is doing that and only turning the ball over once ever two games! Which is as often as he gets a steal. And impressive 3-1 assist-to-turnover ratio for a rookie forward. His defensive stats look good too, but not as good as his 46% 3P shooting.

Any rookies outside of the lottery picks been surprising you folks so far?

Landry Fields

8.7 ppg and 5.5 rpg whilst shooting 55% from the field and 46% from deep is pretty solid for a second round pick. He's on course for an all-rookie team with those kind of numbers.

Not true because the pick right before Landry, Andy Rautins was applauded.

He was booed because we were under the impression that they were going to draft at least one center and was believed that he was going to go undrafted and could have been picked up after the draft.

Eric Bledsoe anyone?

this. he's been elevated to starter w/ the baron injury and basically has been thrown to the wolves going up against Parker, Westbrook, Chauncey, D-Will, and tomorrow he get CP3. talk about a welcome to the nba kid. however, with all that being said the kid has been stupid good! clips have a bright future ahead of them!

If you go back to the 1980s knick fans were generally happy with Mark Jackson pick.

Might be a bit biased here but I'm going to have to go with Fields. Going from a 2nd rounder to starting in your rookie season is impressive and while he has solid stats, numbers don't tell everything here. He brings a lot of intangibles i.e high basketball IQ, moves well without the ball, etc.

the knicks are starting an undrafted rookie, and a 2nd round rookie

both them are surprises.

You arent bein biased at all. This kid is playing very well. Like the best NBA ready talent drafted in the second round in a few years. My memory may not be working well, but last guy I remember that was really ready to contribute starting minutes his at such late a pick is Haslem, and he was undrafted. But Fields is a relatively late pick and he's playing like a guy who knows the game, picking his spots and not forcing anything.

Something for New York to be happy about. No LBJ, but hey... better than nothing.

landry fields. that kid has really impressed me so far.

and if you are going to say Erden, you have to mention Omer Asik. I didn't have too high of expectations for Asik, but he has come in a lot more polished than I thought, he just needs to learn the nuances of the NBA game.

Semih has been real impressive for the Celtics. Not even close to ROTY or anything like that, but still productive.

This needed a poll. I'm definitely liking Wes Johnson.
