I can KINDA understand a 2nd fav team. I do think it is insane that some people have listed a 2nd team from the same league as their REAL team, that is a no no. The only reason I have a "second" team is because I am a baseball freak and I watch games on the west coast as well, the Mariners just seem the most enjoyable to me, but I don't suffer for them like the Mets.

Well, I'm just speaking in my case, I don't root for the Mariners per se, it's just to keep me interested on those west coast games I like to watch, and I don't see how it collides with the Mets because I couldn't care less about the AL standings (sans the stupid interleague, of course) but Mets are always 1st for me. I see what you're saying, but in some cases (mine, mostly) I'm not passionate about Red Sox baseball at all. I only "root" for them because I have family (in-laws) from the city/area and if a game is on while I'm over their house then I will watch it.

I'm willing to bet that most of the people that listed a second team are no where near as passionate about then as they are with their main team. I know I'm not. In all honestly, my second favorite team is really whoever is beating the Phillies, Braves, Marlins or Nationals, but that doesn't count if it's an NL East vs. NL East game. Haha. I don't have a second favorite team. I do have guys around the league that I tend to root for. So if NY falls out of contention or whatever, I'm apt to root for a team that has a collection of players I like. (Houston, for example, when they had the killer B's, Pettitte, Oswalt, etc.)

Exactly the same situation with me (well except it's not in-laws, it's cousins). I've actually grown a little apart from the Sox though (after they started winning.)

If you want to pick a "2nd favorite team" I guess I'll say my second favorite team is the underdogs. I just like seeing them win.

I'll follow the Orioles a little bit now since a couple of my friends are big O's fans and I've been to a good handful of their games (my friend's parents have the Sunday package)

All of you "having a second team makes you a bandwagon/fake fan" people sound like complete douchebags, just so you know.

My secondary rooting interest is the Rays, simply because I love how they run their organization. There's not much passion so much as admiration. It pales in comparison to the life-and-death way I root for the Phillies.

It's not rooting persay, but it's more like another team that you would like to see do kinda well when it doesn't affect your team/play your team.

Marlins are my team, and other teams that I'd like to see doing well are the Red Sox (cuz I HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE the Yankees) and Giants (cuz they have Cody Ross and most of the 49ers fans here are Giants fans, so I would like the Giants fans to do somewhat well to take their minds off of the 49ers :p)

I won't go as far as to say "only real fans" only like one team, but I can't imagine following more than one team. That would kill most of the fun for me. I will gladly follow more than one team. So say you're a White Sox fan...the Mets are your enemy even though they have only played once, back in 2002? That's a little strange. If my team is playing another team that I like, then yeah, I am obviously rooting for my team and the opponent is the enemy for that series but when they are playing somebody else, I don't really consider them an enemy.

I bleed the Red Sox and always will no matter what but that doesn't mean I can't fully support the Phillies. I've been to many Phillies games and their single A affiliate, the Lakewood Blueclaws, are about 10 minutes from my house so I've seen a lot of their stars before they were stars.

Of course when interleague play comes around and the Sox face the Phils I could care less about them but otherwise where's the harm in having another team to look out for?

Mets take the division on the final day and you are so happy because your 2 favorite teams are in the playoffs. Lets say both of them make it to the world series and the mets end up beating them and winning... How much would that suck...Every team except your main team should be the enemy. I will never understand this whole 2nd team ********. One team and thats it. You cheer for that team until the day they stop playing for the season. You can admire other players or even whole teams on how they handle their business but actually cheering and supporting them is just wrong.

Lets say next year you love the White Sox and your 2nd favorite team is the Mets... Lets say your white sox make the playoffs... While the Mets and Phillies fight it out for the division... Mets take the division on the final day and you are so happy because your 2 favorite teams are in the playoffs. Lets say both of them make it to the world series and the mets end up beating them and winning... How much would that suck...Every team except your main team should be the enemy. I would get no joy in a 2nd favorite team winning the world series... I just cant comprehend it.

Well.... I can't speak for Kruk, but for me, my main team is the yankees and my second favorite to just follow is the Cardinals.

If it was a Yankees v Cardinals World Series, I would want the Yankees to win. If they lost to the Cardinals, if anything I would not be overly upset about it. I would be like "darn my yankees lost, but hey if anyone is gonna beat them, at least its a team I respect". Idk, thats just me, im a brightside kinda guy.

Yankees first. Second varies from night to night. Depends on who the Red Sox are playing.

This is just wrong.

I admire how the A's organization is able to find young pitching talent and always seem to have one of the best rotations. However I do not cheer or support them. If they beat the Yankees in the post season I would not be OK with it just because I admire how the organization runs the pitching aspect of their team.

No offense, but I have to raise the question. Are you a bigger fan of baseball as a whole or a bigger fan of the Yankees organization? To me there is one acceptable answer for that question as they both can't coexist.

There is nothing wrong with how I enjoy professional sports. If you really think about the Yankees and Cardinals for awhile, it makes sense why the Cardinals would be my second favorite team. They both have rich history and a strong dedicated fan base. Both are located in great cities and I personally enjoy watching the players on both teams.

And I never said I would be 100% okay with the yankees losing to the cardinals in the World Series, I am simply saying that if they were to lose in the World Series, to lose to the Cardinals rather than teams I do not like, such as the Mets, then I would be slightly happier with that.

But even if the Yankees didnt make the playoffs, I wouldnt be completely devastated, sit in a corner and cry. I would be frustrated and annoyed and I would hope for a better outcome next season. Just because I am calm and collected doesn't mean I don't cheer for my team when I go to the games.

If my favourite team was playing another team I liked in the World Series, I would obviously be rooting for my favourite team. And at that particular point, that other team would be demoted to enemy status for that series. My #1 team is the Tigers. I will root for them over anybody. Does not mean I can't like other teams.

I wonder if Kruk has a second favorite nut.

It's rebuttals like this that make me confident in my argument that its okay to have a second favorite team.
