Every once in a while, the fantastic and committed users of PSD participate in the NBA All time redraft. Players that were eligible to be drafted must have played in the 1980-81 or beyond. The intention of this rule was to ensure that PSD community had better knowledge of the players being drafted and voted on. Please take the time to look over the players and the teams and vote for the better squad. We thank you for your time as your votes are important to determining an NBA ALL Time Redraft champion.

Please evaluate each player based on how well they played in their prime; injuries have no bearing on this game what so ever. Most of the GM’s have taken the time to create a clubhouse with stats for their player which is based on each player’s best s 3 consecutive seasons.

Celtics Write Up

First I want to congratulate the Pacers on making it to the playoffs.

Backcourt matchup:

Kevin Johnson & Scottie Pippen v. Rajon Rondo & Reggie Miller

You know it will be an exciting matchup when you put two of the fastest PG’s in NBA history against each other. Rondo is a great defender and has great quickness up and down the court. But that being said, Rondo has never seen a player in his career like Kevin Johnson. Johnson a sure bet to be a top 5 pg in NBA history had his career not been derailed by injuries truly has few weaknesses to his offensive game. His lateral quickness and ability to get to the line at will make him a matchup nightmare for any team. To put Johnson skills into perspective; Johnson is one of only three players in NBA history (Oscar Robertson and Isiah Thomas are the others) to have averaged at least 20.0 points and 10.0 assists in three consecutive seasons. Talk about elite company. As far as the rest of the backcourt matchup goes, we have Reggie Miller and Scottie Pippen. Because the pacers have Bowen, we will be putting Pippen on Reggie Miller. What can you say about both Reggie and Pippen; both are easily top 50 players in NBA history. On one side you have one of the most clutch shooters and scorers in NBA history. On the other side, we have Scottie Pippen, perhaps the best perimeter defender in NBA history and an 8 time all NBA first defensive team member. We feel Pippen can easily handle his own on the defensive end and with his size and skill should be in store for a great series.

Front Court:

Penny Hardaway, Bill Laimbeer & Dwight Howard v. Brue Bowen, Tim Duncan,

Typically Penny Hardaway would be matching up with opposing teams SG but because Brue Bowen has a limited offensive game, it made sense to shift Pippen against Reggie in this series. We really like Hardaway to have a big series. Hardaway in his prime was a prolific scorer and play maker. He could get to the line, distribute the ball effectively and was a great jump shooter. Penny should certainly ensure Reggie has his hands full on the defensive end. The one aspect of our team that I love is our frontcourt and the defense this unit represents. Bill Laimbeer and Dwight Howard form arguably the best defensive and rebounding frontcourt in the NBA All Time Redraft. Laimbeer was known by some of his peers as dirty and of course tough as nails. He knew how to frustrate players and get under their skin to force them into mistakes. He is a terrific low post defender and will matchup against Tim Duncan in this series. He also has a great pick and roll game that should be a nice compliment with KJ. If Laimbeer is not enough, we also have Dwight Howard to throw at the Pacers. Howard remains the most dominating defensive player in the league today. His length, athleticism and strength make him a very difficult matchup against any player he goes up against, past or present. Howard should have no trouble with Carrol down low, especially with the weight and strength advantage for Dwight. We feel that with Laimbeer and Howard that we are ensured to win the rebounding matchup in this series.

Bench: Our Key bench players come down to our backcourt players. Byron Scott was a starting SG on those championship Lakers teams. He possessed a deadly 3pt shot in the prime of his career averaging 40% from deep. He should provide a scoring punch and strong shooting off the bench for us. Going along with Scott is Byron Russell and Terrell Brandon. We recognize our Celtics team does not have any deadly shooters in the starting lineup but Brandon and Russell help make up for that void. All 3 of the backcourt backups can shoot the ball and keep defense’s honest. Rounding out the rest of our bench is the all white frontcourt of super shot blocker Shawn Bradley and Christian Laettner.

Overall:

We feel that we match up very well in this series with the Pacers. All of our starters are very unselfish players and would gel well as a team. Hardaway, Johnson and Pippen can all be the distributor on the floor and can all make the big play or be the go to guy. Having Laimbeer and Howard down low will allow for our guards to take chances knowing the paint is well protected with these two defensive monsters anchoring the paint. We should take this series in no more than 5 games.

Celtics take this one. Better team while Pacers have Miller-Duncan duo which appears to be super, but also they do not have the quality the Celtics have on the bench. Starting five's, a small advantage to Celtics' super defending team

I dont really know why everyone loves this Boston team so much. I think prime TD dominates Bill, or Dwight on both ends of the floor. Bowen would do a great job disrupting either wing. And Milelr is a handful for anyone. I know Rondo is recent and young but he is a great all around PG. He can score, defend, dish the dimes, and rebound.

Not really surprised you feel that way. You have been against me from the start, could even go as far as the mock off-season we did earlier in the summer. You were complaining about me recently in the lounge for not getting the matchups up fast enough. Not sure what your issue is but whatever it's fine if you want to be bitter...

I don't see how this Pacers team would beat me to be honest. My starting lineup and overall team is simply better. I don't see how TD would dominate Bill Laimbeer at all considering what Laimbeer has accomplished in his career and what a force he was on the defensive end with those "bad boy" pistons teams. Howard depsite you having a hate for the guy is a standout center and easily the best in the game today. His atheticism, size & strengthn would be a nigtmare in the middle for Carrol who by all accounts was a tweaner.

Even if Duncan dominates Laimbeer, the rest of that Celtics team is way too athletic for the Pacers team.

I don't have any problem with you man . I don't hate Dwight either I just think he has alot of flaws.

It's not personal at all so don't act like I have a hate on.

And as for the alltime complaints I wasn't a fan of how it was run honestly. But again that's not all on you it had alot to do with the new rules.
