The Portland Trail Blazers have found a trade to create some extra roster room, agreeing Saturday to deal guard Jerryd Bayless to the New Orleans Hornets for a conditional future first-round pick, according to sources close to the situation.

All I can hope is that we trade him before he's officially a free agent and get some pieces back for him.

I remember he slipped to the Knicks pick and I was CONVINCED we were going to draft him but it didn't happen. I just really don't get why the Blazers are trading him when you'd think they'd be grooming him and I'm also confused why the Hornets want him.

That would have never happened. The Hornets are extremely firm about not trading Chris Paul. Trust me, we've been offered every trade in the book for him. If we were going to trade Paul it would have been this past summer.

I still think Paul leaves in 2012 or we trade him during the 2011-2012 season.

After watching CP in the preseason, it's become evidently clear to me Chris Paul has either forgotten what a basket looks like, lost his shot (which he could eventually find), or gave it up (in which case it’s gone). None of the above is too good a sign for NO imo.

Then again, it's only pre-season ball.

All good, bro.

But the reason we want Bayless is because Dell Demps & Monty Williams have been extremely high on this kid since they were both hired to the Hornets organization.

Also, you have to remember that Monty Williams groomed Bayless, Travis Outlaw, and others when he was the assistant under Nate McMillan in Portland.

I can't tell you what the 'plan' is, but I do think there is definitely an motif behind this move, just like acquiring Willie Green and Jason Smith- who BOTH have expiring contracts after this season.

Paul has looked awful in preseason and basically sluggish-out of shape-not motivated- all of that...

Don't understand this move for the Blazers, AT ALL. They'll lose A LOT of depth in the backcourt which is NEVER good. IMO Bayless can play both the 1 & 2 which makes him real versatile.

Bayless was drafted by portland to be a point guard but he never became one. His game is an undersized sg, he also was mistake and TO prone. The blazers are looking for slowed down half court game where Roy can isolate and penetrate, the sf and pg need to be able to hit open jumpers. Bayless is not a spot of shooter, Rudy is and so they are going to give him an opportunity. If you look at McMillian's philosophy this is not a surprise.

no they LOVE armon johnson (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/4765) and feel between him Elliot Williams and possibly Patty Mills (if he makes the final roster) they can cover the PG situation.

Besides, no big secret that the blazers have been looking for a PG via trade, if its a top tier PG. Having a protected 1st round pick PLUS save cap room (about 4 million I think in this deal) this was a no brainer in my opinion. I am pretty impressed new GM Cho got a protected first round pick back...not bad.

they shouldn't have ever tried to change him into a PG. His draft write up was he could shoot even though he was small but he wasn't much off the dribble control wise.

If he can get back into a backup shooting guard role, he will do just fine.

Armon Johnson is suppose to be a pass first extremely good defensive PG. I think he will get a lot of floor time if he shines like he did in summer league.

Why would the Blazers do this ...

Bayless is a good backup and is still very young. The Blazers need to stop trading away players for draft picks, they already got a young team.

Webster and Bayless should of been kept

Oh an as for the Hornets, they did a great job so far to make Paul happy. Traded Collison for value while getting rid of a long contract and now they picked up a young guard who I believe will be a big part of their success like Pargo was a couple of years ago.

Webster and Bayless barely even played for us, just saying. I do think that maybe we should have kept Bayless around but trading Webster was smart.

Nice move by Noh, a scoring point who could play with Paul as well as behind him. For Portland i think this move means they really like Armon Johnson's fit better and the cheaper Patty Mills who is a good young player in his own right. I believe since they signed Oberto that put them at 16 players so they had to get rid of somebody, so they did and get a future first in the process.

Stein is reporting on the protections:

The Portland Oregonian reported that the 2011 first-round pick that the Blazers will receive from New Orleans is protected 1-to-7 in the 2011 draft and 1-to-8 in 2012, 2013 and 2014. The Blazers will thus take ownership of the pick in the June draft as long as it is No. 8 or lower.

I like Bayless but I think he's getting a little over hyped here. He's a solid player off the bench, but I don't think he's ever gonna be anything special. Seeing as how the Hornets probably won't even make the playoffs and basically traded a lottery pick for him, I think the Blazers made a great deal.

PlezPlayDKnicks

Smart move if they are planning to have CP3 groom him for the next two years. He'll learn on the job just like collinson did. And he'll build chemistry slowly with whoever is left after CP3 departure.

bayless is not a good PG compared to other options the blazers have. The draft write up on him was that he was a good shooter (hes a SG by the way) but not to put the offense in his hands off the dribble.

The blazers didn't have a spot for him at SG as they have been very strong at that position, and he didn't handle the PG well...that is why he sat and never came to much in portland.

He plays hard. The two jokes about him are that the blazers put up extra padding around the buckets when he enters the game...the dude will run full force into the stands/bench/tv cameras whatever...

and this is the many different faces of bayless: click here for the image (http://cdn1.sbnation.com/entry_photo_images/655759/bayless_medium_large.gif)

Good luck to any team that tries to run him at PG for a season...he will turn the ball over and get into foul trouble too often to consistent.

You are nuts if you think the Nuggets would agree to that dumb *** trade lol. Denver is giving up a top 5 player in league for what??? An old pg, some role players, and 2 picks from teams who might have good records this year??? You'd have to throw in Oden, Randolph,Mills, and Batum to even get that deal considered lol.

Bayless is a player I think that deserves more time, and with the right coach, can develop into a stud. I like the Hornets back-court a lot, especially now that they have a back-up PG in Bayless. Hornets have more depth now, and already had 3 guys that can put up 17+ppg in CP, West & Thorton. THe West is just going to be amazing to watch this year.
