Outfielder Jose Bautista underwent surgery on Thursday to repair a sports hernia, an injury the slugger tolerated throughout the majority of his historic offensive showing this past season.

The procedure was successfully performed by Dr. William Meyers in Philadelphia. The recovery time is estimated to be four to six weeks, and the Blue Jays expect Bautista to be healthy and ready in time for Spring Training.

According to the team, Bautista dealt with the injury since May but opted to play through the discomfort before solving the issue with surgery.

I dont think it serious since he was able to play through it and it didnt affect his performance. Hope he is 100% healthy for 2011.

Who knows? Maybe he would have hit 80 had the hernia not occured. Or conversely, maybe the hernia is what 'clicked' for him to hit all his jacks?

Unbelievable what he did with a sports hernia. That is a terrible thing to have happen to you (look up what actually happens in your groin area).
