View Full Version : The one player on your team that wouldn't start anywhere else

Every team has that one player that wouldn't be a starter on most other MLB teams but somehow they still mean a lot to their ballclubs. Whose that one player for your team?

thats a tough one being a phillies fan. No starters but Danys Baez should not be in the MLB yet he was on the phillies 25 man for most of the season.

Not that he means a lot because he doesn't But George Sherril wouldn't make most AAA teams. I don't think anybody can beat that!

Pedro Feliz is worse than Jay, but I agree, Jay is a 4th outfielder at best.

Throw in Skip, and the fact that Brendan Ryan is only a defensive shortstop we have some holes.

I totally misread this thread, thought it was saying the one player you couldn't afford to play for another team.

Carlos Gomez from the BrewersDoes he mean anything to them? He sure the heck managed to kill the White Sox when he was on the Twins, even though he was terrible against everyone else. Bunt singles when no one in their right mind would bunt. Annoying as heck.

Oh Feliz for sure last season

i didn't know if it was talking about 2010 lineups or projected 2011 lineups

javy vasquezHe's probably be a number 1 or 2 on some NL teams. He's terrible in the AL, and even worse in big situations... That explains why he double-sucked in NY. Every game seems big there. He should pitch for the Pirates.

You want ONE on the Mariners?

Well off the top of my head..

Lopez
Saunders
Moore
Fister
Wilson (both of them)
Kotchman
Smoak
French

But as far as actually someone that starts and means something to the Mariners, probably Jason Vargas. I couldn't see him being much on another team, but he's a great #2 for Seattle.

As a mets fan, the list feels like it would be too long. Thole, Castillo, whoever the **** played RF after we traded Franceour so he could backup in Texas... not a fun thread for me.

Realy i think he is good .. he could start on most teams IMO.

Giraffes Rule
10-20-2010, 05:03 PM
Carlos Lee would not start at left field for any other team in the league, though he could start as DH/first base.

Any Astros shortstop

Jason Castro

Brett Wallace

Keppinger is borderline. There are plenty of teams that would use him as their backup infielder.

Brian Tallet ( He started too many games )
Edwin Encarnacion and Fred Lewis would be the only other 2 but its hard to say....they started for us and we were a pretty good team.....so im sure they would start for all the other not soo good teams?

I would say the main one I can think of for Phillies fans would be Wilson Valdez. Don't get me wrong good defender, average hitter but on a Phillies team with a lot of fire power he looked good doing his thing. If he played on a team with a lesser lineup, heck even the Giants, he probably wouldn't do nearly as well.

Of course he's just a back up utility guy for us so it ain't all that bad.

PhillySportFan

Greg Dobbs and Joe Blanton :p

Joe Blanton is ok for the bottom of a rotation. Greg Dobbs has been bad this year, usually is better. I would say judging him on just this year you could say he didn't deserve to be in the majors.

Realy i think he is good .. he could start on most teams IMO.

no way would Loney's production be good enough for at least 20 big league teams to play at first.

he has never even put a 2 war season, doesn't slug .400 or get on base enough....not good enough, and I commend the dodger fan for recognizing that.

this is too easy for me as a phillies fan. RAUUUUL IBANEZ should not start for ANY national league team. a mediocre DH in the AL or just a left handed bat off the bench at best.
