depends on the the personal on the team.proven guys, especially stars/known good players through their careers? no.they arent likely to just have a dramatic plummet in production from one year to the next.

i get everyone is starved to talk basketball, actual games and all...but preseason isnt quite that yet.so i understand being diehards that we put way more emotion and emphasis into it than there should be,its been awhile since we had anything meaningful to analyze.but its just a couple more weeks before than.

its preseason were the biggest thing of relevance to carry over into regular season is the injuries.

Want it nice and succinct? No, they are not.

But, they're a solid team it they stay healthy.

~45 wins. I think they'll be a team that is definitely in the mix for that 8 seed along with a potentially healthy GS and LAC.

I'm happy for the Grizzlies but lets face it...once they go against good teams like the Knicks or Orlando..that will be the measuring stick to see how far they've come along.

The Knicks are back and the city is on fire.

The Grizz are getting better and better. Gay's deal will hamstring them imo. I really think that deal kills them unless they are willing to go way over the cap, but even then, Mayo isn't going to be an elite SG imo, and Gasol will probably be their most valuable player shortly. I do like their team overall, if they stay healthy, could easily challenge for the 8th spot with mid 40s wins

They were like the healthiest team last year, can they be just as lucky this year? I doubt it, to me their chances lay solely on the improvement within Gay and Gasol

Resigning gay for tha tmuch was a mistake.

THeir success this seasons will deppend on how they deal with Mayo, Randolph and GZasol fighting for a contract while Gay having touches entitled because of his high contract

Every time I think about any team I'm a fan of being good because they had a good preseason, I think back to that year the Lions went 4-0 in the preseason, and then went 0-16. That, right there, is the perfect example of why preseason success in any sport is completely irrelevant.

MrfadeawayJB
10-17-2010, 04:47 PM
Is it relevant, no. But winning preaseason games can breed winning attitude in the regular season. Winning in the preseason is better than losing in the preseason. We should be better than last year

We are definitely for real. Not sure how much better we'll be, but believe there could easily be post season play this year. We have a deeper bench who actually contributes to a lead and defense now; and our starting 5 is the same that had a ?16 game improvement last year. Yes, we'll make some noise this time.

The Grizzlies are a bottom seed playoff team in the Western Conference. They have the talent, but lack chemistry and a dependable starting PG. The Wolves are 5-1 and so is Cleveland, and I really, really doubt that either of them makes the playoffs; I will almost guarantee it.

If they're anything like the Sim League Grizzlies they should be penciled into the #1 seed right now.

BSplaya2121

Most of the time, in preseason the starters will only play about 20 minutes or so more towards the beginning of the game. So it is only relevant to say that maybe the back half of the grizzlies roster might be better than the 6 teams they have played. Thats all, starter for starter they are good but not a 6-0 team

What were or are you watching? They have the same starting 5 from last year that won 40 games. They play great together (well on offense). Opposing players admitted that scouting report on the Grizz last year was play the starters close and get to the bench. We got nothing out of the bench. If we get ANYTHING we could be a play-off team.

But overall the pre-season means nothing i agree. But i would rather go 6-0 rather than 0-6 if you ask me.

you also experienced a great stroke of luck health wise. That will regress to the mean eventually. I think the Grizz can compete for the 8th spot. I also think that Gay deal will end up killing you guys in the long run. Your starters missed like 14 games. That probably won't happen again. So you need growth out of Gasol, and for Henry to solve some bench issues. ANY development from your top pick last season would help too.

ummm how did i know as soon as i commented on this thread that you would follow right behind me and dissect every word i said?

But you repeated what i said. If the bench does ANYTHING we will be better. Hasheem spent his summer in Memphis working with the coaches instead of being a celebrity. Our starters played the most mins in the league. But why can't the starters stay healthy? Zach is the only one with an extensive injury history. And playing less mins should help towards that.

BQ, my point is, the Grizz were somehow able to be the healthiest team in the NBA, when looking at their core players. This probably isn't going to happen again.

I followed on NBA website tonight and CP3 was in it at the end....we had Rudy and Gasol in it,too but ZBo didn't play at all.

I've watched the Grizzlies enough to tell you this. While the team has a lot of talent, the Griz are in the bottom five in assists every year for the last 3 or so. The players you have are selfish, and having both Gay and Mayo who both dominate the ball in the same lineup is tough. Randolph doesn't pass much either, if you haven't noticed.

Voice of reason, Chronz. Grizzlies have improved their team with signing and draft and current personnel improvement. And it takes a big man to admit his mistake(Heisley) and say he was wrong(Henry and Vasquez contracts)
8-0 is nothing to sneeze at. If it translates to 50/30's by April, I will be one happy lady.

Marc Gasol is for real. The Grizz have a pretty good team going for them in Gasol, Randolph, Gay, Mayo, and Hasheem.

I look for Mayo to breakout and M. Gasol to continue improving. They could definitely be a sleeper team and perhaps sneak their way into the playoffs as an 8th seed. They have a lot of work to do though.

What it does mean is that one of the youngest teams in the NBA has taken this time seriously; has improved in attitude and skill set and plans to continue this forward momentum into the real season. I don't think anybody is overlooking the Grizzlies. Everybody knows they are talented, but there is no way a team can be anything more than a 8th seed and a first round exit averaging league low 17 assists for the last three years in a row. If they get a great pass first PG, ala CP3, they would be a top 5 team in the league. The talent is there but the players that are in place don't work too well together.

mzgrizz
10-26-2010, 11:01 PM
I agree with that, but Conley may be morphing into something more serviceable.
I would have LOVED CP3 on the Grizz.
