DENVER - Trail Blazers center Jeff Pendergraph has torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and will be out for the season, the second-year player said on his Twitter account today.

Pendergraph injured his knee Thursday night in Utah with 10:48 left in the second quarter of an exhibition game against the Jazz. He was guarding center Kyrylo Fesenko, who drove left and scored on Pendergraph while being fouled. Pendergraph immediately crumpled to the court, holding his right knee with both hands.

With Greg Oden and Joel Przybilla rehabilitating knee injuries from last season and not scheduled to return by the start of the season, Pendergraph was set to be the Blazers’ backup center.

Jeff Pendergraph's season ended before it started after he tore the ACL in his right knee and will undergo season-ending surgery.
Blazer centers and devastating knee injuries seem to go hand in hand, and this is simply terrible news for Pendergraph. He was already filling in for Greg Oden and Joel Przybilla, but at least those guys are able to run again. Marcus Camby better stay healthy until they get back, or Dante Cunningham might quickly become the new starting center in Portland.

Portland has such bad luck.

Yeah, pretty much. If Camby goes down. The next closest thing they have to a center is Dante Cunningham who is only 6 foot 8 and 230 pounds. It's either Dante or Aldridge.

It's tough being a big man in Portland.
Very unlucky, hope he recovers well.

he's a nba prospect now but future euro league player in my eyes and he isnt a center he is a 3rd string power forward

i love portland but if i'm a big man and i'm drafted or traded to portland then i'm pretty scared... they've probably had the most season ending injuries to bigs in nba history... its getting crazy

Noooo not pendergraph :( the only positive thing I was seeing from all the bigs going down is him being able to get more minutes.... ****

Their centers have bad luck. If I was a center headed over there, I'd be petrified.
