Rangers take a commanding lead in the series behind a 7-4 victory tonight.

On another note... can today's games possibly live up to yesterday's entertainment???

Although he only has had 1 postseason year of experience... I like what I saw from James Shields two years ago. CJ Wilson, on the other hand, just took a huge jump in IP this year (over 130) and he does not have playoff experience...

I think James Shields shows why even with a bad year he was put as the #2 starter. He will dominate the Rangers for 7 innings of 0 or 1 run at most.

And I think CJ will struggle and go 4 innings.

I say Rays win

I never understood the outrage of starting Shields on game 2, his main problem is giving up HRs, so starting him in Texas would've been a suicide.
Plus I think him and Garza are equals, some people talk as if Garza is some kind of ace.

I'm not a huge fan of RBA. It kind of came out right around the time of Camden, but before it caught on as a huge idea that shaped all the new stadiums we see now. It's a decent park, but nothing special IMO. Far greater than the Trop though :pity:

It doesn't bother me one bit... i actually love seeing fans like that! At the trop, the fans have no idea whats going on. playoffs are a crapshoot in every sport... so whats the point in even having them then? In football, you only get one game. So, if the best team has a bad game and gets upset it shouldn't count? i mean, its a crap shoot so it doesn't really mean anything. That's what your basically implying...

My point to all these posts is that the Rangers are not the better team just because they are winning these two games, and that the playoffs are a crap shoot. I have nothing against the Rangers, I think they're a great team. Personally I think the Rays are the best team right now outside of the Phillies and so this 5-1 and 6-0 junk is very misleading.

So how do you determine the best team?

Is it based on overall talent?

Or the team with the best record?

Personally I think its impossible to truly say who the best team is because:

1)the teams don't play even schedules.

2)pitching match ups

The only way we could truly find the best team is if every team played every team the same number of times, and each team got to use their best pitchers for each game.

Then instead of playoffs we just give the trophy to the team that finished with the best record.

SOUNDS FUN!

Yes NBA playoffs are very cut and dry, the bottom 4 seeds never do jack. I think it was only 3 times in the history of the league the 8 seed defeated the 1 seed and the first two times it happened we're when the 1st round was done in 5 game series (which increases the luck involved).

Because that is the be-all, end-all in determining which team is better. Texas has better starting pitching, a MUCH better lineup, and the bullpens are pretty much even (with probably a slight edge to Texas).

They're just a balanced team. They have the best bullpen of the AL teams, park-adjusted their offense is better than Texas (although they're both basically the same), and their defense is very, very good.

Their starting is probably 3rd best in the AL (ahead of the Yankees).

Oh really??

Thats the sport where upsets happen the most because you only play the game once.

Actually it probably where upsets happen the least (outside of the NBA).

There is barely any random variation in football. It's almost impossible to get lucky. You can't rely on BABIP in baseball. You can't really on lucky shots in the NHL.

The best team usually wins in the NFL, unless facing an unfair homefield advantage. The Saints were a better team than the Colts last year (Pro Football Outsiders agrees), and they won.

That's why we have things to adjust for schedule, homefield, etc.

It may not be perfect, but it's still better than anything else we have.

Using that logic nobody will never be able to settle any debate. I could make the argument that Randy Winn is better than Babe Ruth since they didn't face the same competition.

So if the Rangers take care of this thing Saturday, and the Yanks finish off the Twins, I'm picking the Rangers to beat the Yankees 4-2.

I don't really think there is a team playing better than the Rangers right now. Aside from the superb pitching performances in the national league games, this Ranger team has been in complete control from just about the first pitch of each game.

Stupid me bought tickets to Game 4 on stubhub. If the Rangers sweep on Saturday, does anyone here know if I get refunded? I would surely think so, but nothing these days really surprises me.
