Pau Gasol. It is pretty close between him and Duncan but I just think at this point in their careers, Gasol is a little better.

of course he is not going to make it.

because koeb fans cant let it happen.

it woudl tke a lot of "merit" awy from theyr beloved one if he had the help of a top 10 for his rings

But that didn't change either of them. Nash put up same stats as he has been doing for last 5 years. Duncan is as efficient as he has been over past 5/6 years. What matter is TEAM. Had the Spurs made it deep (WCF) into the playoffs last year Duncan would have been a top 5 now. (Nash doesn't get much love here on PSD).

Im gonna have to say Nash is #10

The choices are all great players but none would have the impact alone that Nash would have on a new team. Nash can make bums into all star players. He, without a shadow of a doubt, makes players around him better.

If we had Nash last year D.Lee's alleged inflated stats would have made him a top 5 scorer in the league. Nash is that good. He sure as hell could have gotten Lee another 7 points a game.

Pau on his own in Memphis was good but he wasnt who he is now he has Kobe, Duncan needs a good PG and Roy can take over a game but none will have the affect on the team as much as Nash would.

Nash is #10

As u can see i mentioned stats first....

Pau- 18.3 pts 11.3 rbs 3.4 asts 1.74 blks .57 stls 79% ft 53.6% fg 2.2 to
Tim- 17.9 pts 10.1 rbs 3.2 asts 1.50 blks .58 stls 72.5% ft 51.8% fg 1.8 to

fairly even stats but Pau does have the edge, i expect this poll to go down the wire..

the fact is that only 2 of the guys on this board are top 10 players in this league. However, there is only one player who you could say "it's a tragedy if they aren't top 10" and that is Tim Duncan.

Are you kidding me? Pau not being in the top team is all Kobe fans fault? You do realize that most Kobe fans are also Laker fans. Don't you think they would want Pau to be in the top 10? Maybe just maybe people actually might think those players are better.

What I find interesting is that so many here rate Kobe based on team success and achievements. And at the same time, Duncan gets passed over and over, when the same thing is going on. If you are going to continue to rank Kobe based on the past (because that is the only way to justify him being the top player at this point, or even #2 in all reality), then it should apply to Timmy.

I vote for the player who is currently the best, not his legacy, his history, or its potential to be the best. As Hawkeye15 said, I do not know why Kobe is first in the Top 10, and Duncan is not, so if you go to vote, vote right and not be just fans. NOW, Kobe is not the best player in the NBA, he is the second or third right now, Lebron and Wade are better players, and more complete. And do not say as a Heat fan, I say this as a fan of the NBA. If Kobe comes first, for then Duncan should be among the Top 10, and Shaq, too, only because of its history ...

PS: I think right now Pau is better than Duncan, Duncan is among the Top 15 this season, so I vote for Pau.

Are YOU KIDDING ME! there are still people complaining that Kobe shouldn't be number 1? This is just plain ridiculous....

GET OVER IT!

Pau and Duncan are very close. I personally voted Pau Gasol, he seems to keep getting better. Pau had 18.3PPG and 11.3RPG last year compared to Duncans 17.9PPG and 10.1RPG. Pau had to rebound with Bynum and Odom, as for Duncan had to rebound with Blair and McDyess.

They basically had the same advanced stats...

Not to mention in the playoffs (where it matters) Pau put up monster stats (better stats then Duncan).

because it simply says how worthless these polls are dude. That is why. Its headscratching how a player in a 3 year statistical decline who finished 2nd in win shares on his own team in both the regular season and the playoffs can be looked at as the "elite" of the elite. It frustrates neutral fans who are fans of the game.
Anyways, to the actual part of your post, Duncan and Gasol are very close at this point. I think overall, Duncan had the better year last season, but I also think Gasol will have the better year this upcoming season. So it depends how you look at it. PER for bigs is a valuable asset, because they don't get to be shot creators at the same rate as guards. Duncan's was easily better. Duncan's offense was per usual. Very effective. And Gasol moved into the conversation as one of the better interior defenders finally.
Going forward, I take Gasol any day of the week. Looking at last year, I take Duncan. Just depends how you want to vote.

And I think that if Kobe is going to continue to get votes based off career achievements (which is the only rational way to explain his rating here), then Tim should as well. This is where we run into complete contradictions on this site.
