View Full Version : Sixers trade Willie Green & Jason Smith to Hornets for Songaila & Craig Brackins

Highlight
09-23-2010, 11:11 AM
The Sixers have reportedly traded guard Willie Green and center Jason Smith to the Hornets for forwards Darius Songaila and Craig Brackins.
Green's arrival hurts the potential value of Marco Belinelli (who is backing up Marcus Thornton), although they may plan on using him at back up point guard, as Mustafa Shakur is currently the first line of defense behind Chris Paul. We're not sure what Philly got in the deal, but the loss of Green should clear more minutes for Jason Kapono and Jodie Meeks, and could be another sign that Evan Turner is the starting shooting guard in Philly.

Just read that Philly wanted Brackins dating back to the draft. He's the reason they got this deal done.
I have no idea who wins in this one though.

Philly Wins. Willie Green can possibly play point but I doubt it since he's a chucker.

Philly held on to Willie Green for waayyyy to long. He never turned into the player they thought he was become.

Do you guys feel this trade increases, decreases, or doesn't change the chances of the 3 way trade with NJ and Denver where the Sixers get Favors/Murphy?

I remember about 2 years ago, maybe a bit more, I started a thread in the 76ers forum asking why the **** Willie Green was still on the team, not realizing that they all hated him as much as I do and also had no idea.

Without a doubt. We lived by it for as long as I've been here. Now we'll probably just hate Nocioni.

Stupid stupid for the Hornets.

Dell Demps definitely doesn't like Thornton.

What would Denver get?
I think the Nuggets won't deal Melo to NJ unless they are receiving Favors.
If the reports are right, then it sounds like he won't sign an extension with the Nets anyway.

Wow, being a Hornets fan I'm very confused with this trade... I was excited about Brackins in the long-term future of the Hornets franchise.

However, I do like the idea that Green and Smith both will be free agents next summer.

So...the Sixers are going to have 4 or 5 PF's?

Nuggets want young, impact talent on cheap, rookie-scale contracts and draft picks. Not bloated contracts to older players.

The Sixers win this trade almost by default for removing themselves of Willie Green.

Hornets fans, you got screwed on this trade big time. Both Willie Green and Jason Smith are big time scrubs with no potential in the NBA. If this was strictly to help with your cap space in the future, then that's really ALL you are getting.

i just cant believe willie green got traded for a real life player, much less one with some talent. must be a lot of under the table cheesesteaks involved here if ya catch my drift

LMAO seriously though what were the Hornets thinking? They are barely saving any money and Green and Smith are both 3rd stringers at best.

They said Rod Thorn wanted Brackins and thats why we got him. I cant BELIEVE we got him for smith & green. I love Jason Smith but I was willing to part with ANYONE on the roster to get rid of Willie Green. Sixers may not be done, Thorn wants Favors back too. 76ers youth movement could be looking real good for the future

Brackins is gonna be a beast, this was a stupid move for New Orleans. Really stupid. I though they were trying to add talent to the team to surround CP3, so instead they trade for Trevor Ariza, Willie Green and Jason Smith while managing to get rid of a high potential 1st rounder:laugh2: Songaila isn't too bad of a backup big either. What the **** does New Orleans think there doing?

The Hornets can claim they traded for the worst starting player in the NBA over the last 5 years, maybe longer...

I guess you can say, at least he was a starter

People are somewhat over-rating how good Brackins can be. He could be good, but I wouldn't bet on it. Still, this was a really really bad trade for the Hornets. Smith hasn't shown he can do anything and Green is horrible. At least Songaila was a good bench big and Brackins had some potential.

Basically these trades the Hornets have made are just a sign of things to come. We are just starting with trades.

Peja will be traded next, maybe even David West.

Before everyone has a stroke, I do believe we have a legitimate shot at landing Carmelo Anthony. I really do. However, in order for that to occur, we would practically need to trade our entire roster === maybe not but the price for acquiring Melo would be the equivalent to depleting our team.

Does anyone have any ideas of what team(s) would be interested in taking on Peja Stojakovic and his expiring $15million contract???
