View Full Version : Rodney Stucky on the Pistons "on paper we are the best team in the League"

Dime: I can tell you are driven after the difficult experience of last season. How do you feel things will turn out this season coming up?
RS: Last year was tough. We were inconsistent. There was no chemistry. We all just have to stay healthy and the sky is the limit for us. On paper, we are the best team in the League. We are deep and athletic. All we have to do is play to our abilities. We don’t have the biggest roster, but if we share the ball, we’ll be alright.http://dimemag.com/2010/09/rodney-stuckey-on-paper-we-are-the-best-team-in-the-league/

haha alright rodney talking some game, nothing wrong with that i guess. it's not like anyone really thinks thats true. the pistons do have some talent, but the roster can't decide if it's coming or going right now. hopefully greg monroe is the real deal.

Detroit is going to be pretty good this year

Not if they're relying on Villaneuva, Hamilton, and Prince.

They've got some nice young talent lined up but their ridiculous contracts to inefficient shooters just kill their ability to improve any way but through the draft.

They're not very good, but they are pretty deep.

Stuckey / Bynum
Rip / Mcgrady / Gordon
Prince / Jerebko / Daye
Villanueva / Maxiell
Wallace / Monroe / Wilcox

I don't know if I've ever seen a team with so much mediocre talent all in one place.

xbrackattackx
09-21-2010, 11:18 AM
I think they are a team built for the future they are a above avg team now but they could be great if Monroe listens to Wallace and learns to play defense like that.

I don't know if I've ever seen a team with so much mediocre talent all in one place.

If they adjusted their lineup up, they might make the playoffs:

Stuckey/Bynum
Rip/Gordon/McGrady
Jerebko/Prince
Maxiell/Daye/Villaneuva
Monroe/Wallace

Rip handles the ball with the first unit and makes plays for himself, Stuckey, and Jerebko. Monroe becomes the post scorer on the first unit and Maxiell cleans up the rebounds.

The second unit Bynum or Prince make the plays. Gordon is a spot up shooter anyway and should light it up. Wallace is the clean up guy, and he's a great passer so he can hit Ben for 3's all day. I'd keep Charlie V off the floor unless day underperforms.

why do people continue to criticize players who are being confident in their team??? Even if it is misguided a bit, but would you respect him more if he said, "Yeah, we have no chance, we suck, let's just get this over with"?

Get over these type of things people. Happens every summer. Beasley said the Wolves were the team to beat. We all know this isn't true, but as a player, you need to show confidence in your roster. Period

There is nothing wrong with being confident, but I'm betting that the cockiness is what is making people respond this way (that's what it did for me). If he would of simply said "We feel like we can beat any team in the league any given night, and have the talent to be a top team in the east" whatever. I'm down with that confidence. But to claim the detroit pistons are the best team in the league on paper is idiotic.

Even though players should be confident, they are also humans and watch TV, look at the rosters etc. You don't see the Community College down the street claiming to offer the best education in the country on paper.

I understand that. But in this scenario, these are highly paid, professional basketball players. The difference between a good team and a bad team is just a player or two in many cases.
And like I said, its the overall message that he is sending, that should be respected. If certain words get your panties in a bunch, too bad. But I like my players being confident, and telling their teammates they view them as capable of playing with anyone

Its just a wacky statement..Saying I think we can win it all is one thing cause hey anything can happen, but anyone who watches Basketball knows on paper they are maybe an 8th seed at best

This thread is nothing but a Rodney bash.
