View Full Version : Raps lotto pick Ed Davis injures knee in pickup game.Could need arthroscopic surgery

It’s all fun and games until someone hurts a knee.

Raptors rookie forward Ed Davis sustained a “meniscal” injury to his right knee during a pickup game Wednesday night and the treatment options are still being determined. Davis was playing informally in Mississauga on Wednesday — a gathering started by the team’s younger players using social media outlets — when he landed the wrong way after a rebound and hurt himself.

Sonny Weems and DeMar DeRozan have used their Twitter accounts to set up informal “runs” with random fans at area gyms and fitness clubs.

The team did not disclose details of any treatment for Davis, which could run from rest to arthroscopic surgery. Toronto begins training camp at the Air Canada Centre on Sept. 28.

While there was no indication the injury had anything to do with people not involved with professional basketball, the game was taking place away from the team’s practice facility — and training and medical staff. Generally, in the final two weeks before training camp, players use the team’s facilities to work out and scrimmage with teammates.

Davis, a 6-foot-10, 215-pound 21-year-old, was taken 13th overall by the Raptors in June’s NBA draft. The son of former NBAer Terry Davis had long been pegged as a prospect worthy of a top-six draft slot but sat out most of his sophomore season at the University of North Carolina after suffering a broken bone in his left wrist in February.

Davis averaged 12.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 25 minutes in five games with Toronto’s summer league team in July.http://www.thestar.com/sports/basketball/nba/raptors/article/862993--top-raptor-rookie-ed-davis-injures-knee-in-pick-up-game

There is time before the season starts, this doesn't sound like a season ender to me. Obviously if you were a Raptors fan you don't want to see this happen to your draft pick, but it probably isn't a huge deal.

Interesting if he was playing on concrete with just friends... hmmm.

Two thoughts...

It's a damn shame for both Davis and the Raps...

Twitter + NBA players = nothing by trouble. Always has, always will.

i just hope that the wrist + knee injury don't turn into a proneness. Ed davis needs to spend some time in the gym to bulk up anyways.

Being a Raptors fan this blows, this team is looking pretty terrible,

PG - Jarrett Jack, Jose Calderon, Marcus Banks
SG - DeMar DeRozan, Leandro Barbosa
SF - Linus Kleiza, Sonny Weems, Julian Wright
PF - Amir Johnson, Reggie Evans, Ed Davis
C - Andrea Bargnani, David Anderson, Joey Dorsey

We have decent depth at a lot of positions but the starters for the most part wont do much, Andrea Bargnani is gonna be basically all alone on offense unless DeRozan steps things up, the depth at power forward (especially considering Davis' injury) makes me wanna cry.

Sucks for the Raps. But hey, at least the injury wasn't as ridiculous as Ekpe Udoh 'injuring his wrist' lifting weights a few days after he was signed.

Now's the time to bring back Tmac. Make it happen.
