View Full Version : Rockets offer Erick Dampier a two-year, $4 million contract

Yao Ming will apparently be on a strict playing time limit this season, so the Rockets have reportedly offered free agent center Erick Dampier a two-year, $4 million contract.
Dampier is also expected to get a minimum offer from the Heat and an offer from the Grizzlies. The Rockets are also in talks with Jazz restricted free agent center Kyrylo Fesenko, although the Jazz are expected to match any reasonable offers. But the bottom line here is that if the Rockets are this desperate for a center when they already have Yao, Brad Miller and Luis Scola on board, you probably don't want Yao on your fantasy team this year.

Scola starts at PF so hes irrelevant here. Nothing wrong with having Dampier in sometimes.. better defender than Miller imo.

Money shouldn't be an issue for Dampiermade plenty of that, so any team should be a option(Heat). Dude made 60 million in only 6 years!!!

What is Dampier going to do for them?

There is the possibility that Dampier could put in a few minutes at Center for the Cavs, plus get more money from the Cavs, while trying to prove he's worth another 2-3 year contract.

But that's just me thinking out loud, and in print.

Yeah but what will he do for the Cavs besides take minutes? He doesn't make them a playoff team so there's really no point.

2yr 4 mil? what is that the vet min or bi-annual?

On a side note every moron who argued with me in the Center rankings thread needs to go find a wall and go :bang:. I tried telling you guys a player doesn't sit for a year straight and come back being the #1 option. He's not the #2 center in the NBA.

Geez, it spares Varejao from being the starting Center.

One year contract. Cavs have thr capspace.

I think the bigger news here Yao isnt fully recovered and that slims my Rox chances now :(

Rockets are dead set on monitoring Yao's minutes, this buys them 10 a night. With Miller and Hill, they can give him plenty of rest, and even some nights off in back to backs against crappy teams

Why does this guy have his own thread, let alone multiple ones?!

I'm sure he's been spending it too. A guy like Shaq you could make that argument but if he was offered a $6 million dollar deal from a bad team, I don't think he'd hesitate to take that over a $2 million dollar deal.

He's fully recovered but the Rox are not gonna make the same mistakes that they've made in the past, that's why they're not in any rush for Yao to play long minutes. Yao will probably start off playing 15-20min a game but by the end of the season Dampier will be wearing street clothes on the end of the bench.

Why does this guy have his own thread, let alone multiple ones?!

Because although Dampier as an individual is nothing out of this world, his skill sets as a role player would make a huge difference on talented teams such as Miami, OKC, and Houston; who need interior help.

With Miami at least, the fact that he plays good man on man D, sets good screens, rebounds, and is 7'0 tall would make a big difference on our interior. The Lakers or any other team for that matter would rather face a Dampier-less Heat than with him, not the sole focus but makes a difference (applies for okc and houston too)

wow he made $60mil for the Mavericks to stand around the rim and look confused while fumbling the ball and now hes getting offered $4 mil to do the same thing.

Woudn't get your hopes to high about that now...

This move is Yao Ming Insurance basically, not a huge fan of Damp, but we need a big *** black dude to fill up the middle.

Nevermind, it looks like this is a bit older than the article that was posted by the OP by a couple of hours.
