3.975 mill per season is a great value for Staal. I am very happy with his new contract

With all the numbers being thrown around I said the best might be 4 years at 4 mill but people said Staal wouldnt accept that. Slats got a better deal than that even. :)

Brooks says we have 2.3m on our summer cap left so a trade or waiver will be needed before the season starts.

This is an amazingly team friendly deal. I feel like in a couple years hes going to look like he needs a raise.

This is great news!! The length and money couldn't be any better (probably slightly below his market value) and not to mention it proves that Staal does want to stay in New York despite all of the speculation. Another move this year that sets us up for a bright future. Slats has certainly grown wiser considering our two top young defenseman make slightly more than Redden combined. Well done Sather!

It was an Earl Scheib signing: I'll defend against any forward for $3.975 mil !

Is that the funeral bell I hear tolling for Redden? Or is someone going to be dealt?

Hey Wade, better start looking into the real estate market in Hartford. Though I guess for the amount of money you are being paid you can buy a nice chunk of Hartford.

So how do all the people that though Staal was done like dinner here have to think now? A few of us said it but it turned out Ryan stayed a Duck and Staal a Ranger, I never bought into the 1-for-1 rumors.

Yeah i know some people are def eating some crow now. Sadly we know who those people are and i am sure they will be back talking more garbage.

Agreed we should all be happy about this. We bought out what, 2 years of UFA and kept him under 4 mil per year? As far as I'm concerned this was best case scenario based on the numbers we all heard.

-Again surprisingly, a good offseason for Slats. Personally though I would have traded Girardi to save money and improve down the middle but its hard to argue with the moves we have made.

this is an excellent deal, i think one of the best peices of work sather has done, not just this offseason! im gona say i thought he would get close to 4.5 than this so this makes me very happy!!! and for sure this will look great in 2 years and if not and something completely unforseen happens, we it still is a very manageable amount of cap to move!! (not that that is likely to be the case)

important thing is, i dont think we will ever be saying, this kid is over paid, at worst we will say he gets a fair wage!
