In all the years I followed the Yankees and baseball in general, only recently have i heard this theory that the Yankees lose to pitchers that they have never faced before, as an excuse. By that same theory, than they should beat most pitchers that they have faced through the years. They know what those pitchers throw, and yet pitchers like Lee, Halliday and now even TB's Price almost always either beat them or at the least are very stingy giving them runs. Another thing about keeping tabs on how many innings a young pitcher has thrown. So far, this has hampered, I believe in the consistency of Hughes, and Chamberlain from last year.

I do believe the pitcher has the advantage over a hitter that's never faced him before. As for your examples, Halladay is an exception, the Yankees hit Lee pretty hard the last time they faced him (4 ER IIRC), and Price hasn't been seen by anyone very much.

I think if you look at a team's numbers vs a pitcher they've seen numerous times every year for years (like Beckett's numbers vs the Yanks), they'll be inflated.

In the playoffs a team should use all rookies against the yankees. They would beat us so badly.

first time around the order might be weird but if the pitcher doesnt have the stuff he will get hit around the next couple times around.

Teams do generally do worse against these pitchers the 1st couple starts. The scouting reports are terrible but teams catch on soon.

Everyone says that about everyones team. Hell the White Sox announcer says it all the time.

I dont know about other teams but with the yankees there are times where the hitters look lost at the plate against a young pitcher.
