Vs

Baltimore Orioles

http://product.images.fansedge.com/51-26/51-26464-F.jpg

all info from bluejays.com

Monday September 13, 7:05, SNET

Marc Rzepczynski (1-4, 6.47 ERA) (http://toronto.bluejays.mlb.com/team/player.jsp?player_id=519240) vs Brian Matusz (8-12, 4.71 ERA) (http://baltimore.orioles.mlb.com/team/player.jsp?player_id=451085)

Scouting report:

Blue Jays: After a seven-inning two-hitter against the Angels on Aug. 13, Rzepczynski has struggled with consistency. He hasn't pitched longer than 5 2/3 innings in any of his five starts since, going 0-3 with an 8.18 ERA.

Orioles: Matusz is 3-7 this year with a 4.27 ERA at Camden Yards. However, he is on a four-game winning streak with four consecutive quality starts. However he has not had much luck against the Blue Jays, having gone 0-2 with a 22.85 ERA.

Tuesday September 14, 7:07, SNET-1

Shawn Hill (0-1, 5.06 ERA) (http://toronto.bluejays.mlb.com/team/player.jsp?player_id=429718) vs Jake Arrieta (5-6, 4.96 ERA) (http://baltimore.orioles.mlb.com/team/player.jsp?player_id=453562)

Scouting report:

Blue Jays: Hill impressed Thursday in his first Major League start since April 25, 2009. He is returning from his second Tommy John surgery, and as a result said his pitches lacked crispness, but with better defense his line vs. Texas would have been better.

Orioles: Arrieta has been solid if unspectacular of late, having dropped his ERA nearly a half-run in his past eight starts. He was strong in the Bronx last Tuesday, allowing two earned runs in 6 1/3 innings in a victory over the Yankees.

Wednesday Sept 15, 7:05, SNET-1

Kyle Drabek (http://toronto.bluejays.mlb.com/team/player.jsp?player_id=475138) vs Brad Bergesen (6-10, 5.29 ERA) (http://baltimore.orioles.mlb.com/team/player.jsp?player_id=448269)

Scouting report:

Blue Jays: Drabek makes his Major League debut after going 14-9 with a 2.98 ERA in 27 regular-season starts for Double-A New Hampshire to earn Eastern League pitcher of the year honors. He allowed one run in six innings in a playoff loss Friday.

Orioles: Like many of Baltimore's starters, Bergesen has pitched better as of late, coming off two quality starts in his past three appearances, including a win over the Angles and a no-decision against the Yankees.

I'm sure to the uninformed, we are throwing out our scrubs against Baltimore.

BlueJayCarter

I agree with StealingSigns. To someone who doesn't watch the Blue Jays or a fan of another AL East team it would appear that we are throwing out scrubs, and in reality at least one of these pitchers is a scrub (Rzep, oh how one has fallen so far in just one year), and possibly Hill who is more of an unknown at this point as who knows how or if he plays a part in the Blue Jays organization next year.

The only true pitcher of the future is Drabek and I like his chances against Bergensen, nice to get his first start a (easier) one then against a premier pitcher.

And I can't wait to see what he is like against the Yankees.

I am going to say that Toronto goes to 14-1 against the Orioles. I just can't see Rzep winning. He sucks.

Orioles are the AL easts hottest team. I see us losing the first two and I am hoping for a good performance by the player we got in return for Halladay

E5 activated from the DL. Will play 3rd base on most days from here on in.

Cito says of his group of outfielders, the only one that "really needs to play" is Snider, so he'll work Lewis & Wise in here and there, but not in place of Snider.

As for Drabek, at least there won't be much pressure on him, knowing that a vast majority of Canada can't watch the game.

Probably the best opponent he could hope to start against. Will be a very big day for Drabek and the Jays. Nice to see him get rewarded after a pretty big year.

We should be very excited. This is how it should be when the best prospects in your teams system make their debut in the bigs.

What we should not do, however, is go crazy over his performance, good or bad.

He could give up 10 runs in 2 IP and it wouldnt impact my opinion that the kid will be a very good major league starting pitcher in the not too distant future (season or two, not a start or two, lol;):p)
That being said, if he shuts down the Orioles for 7 innings or more on Wednesday then I will be convinced he is the current ace of the staff and the front runner for next years CY.:D

Agreed, we traded the face of the franchise for this kid. At no point in time did I even say anything about being excited I said anxious and whenever you trade the best pitcher in baseball you are going to be anxious to see what the return has to offer.

I get your sarcasm but unfortunately some people will actually argue he is a savior and should be the ace next year if he shuts down Baltimore. I won't read too much into it, but yes I am very curious to see what Drabek has to offer especially after the buzz coming from his playoff start in AA

Of course the buzz is dying, it is dying or dead in all markets where the team is completely out of contention (except Boston where I am sure they still believe, lol).
Wait till hockey training camp opens.haha.

I can't wait for Hokey and BBall. Both Toronto teams will not deliver, but it will be entertaining - until then, Toronto fans have one team to cheer for: whoever you pick as your NFL favorite.

The Leafs will be more competitive this year, they'll end up somewhere in the #7-10 range in the East IMO. The Raps will be a lot like the Jays this year: young and green, but exciting to watch and hopefully always in ball games. The Raptors won't have the same level of success but that may mean they end up with a top notch PG or C in the draft.

As for the buzz dying down, it usually happens at this time of year when the team falls out of contention, but I think Bautista's home run chase and Drabek's debut have kept the team relevent in the media even with hockey starting up. I know a lot of people who follow the Jays these days just to see if Bautista will hit another one.

Dustin Mcgowan was probably the highest rated Jays pitching prospect of recent times so not that long ago.

As for reports of loss of velocity they seem to be over hyped. Keith Law was saying that in his first playoff game he was hitting 93-97 through the first 3-4 innings then settled in to a 92-94 range I believe.

Missed the game tonight. How did Draebek do? Caught the last batter, his fastball and curve both seemed to have pretty good movement in the 6th.

heusy_79
09-15-2010, 10:14 PM
He showed the type of movement and mix that could make him a top notch pitcher with work. He has that look to him, and he showed a couple times tonight that he has the right attitude to pitch his way out of jams. His pitching line was a bit mis-leading, a lot of the hits were just past infielders, but on the other hand he was also saved by some good D ( I was really impressed by that gun by Snider to 2nd, especially after they showed a clip of him working with the outfielder coach). I would give Drabek a B- for his first start, but he showed the potential to turn into an A pitcher. That curveball will be downright nasty, and if he keeps developing his cutter and change he will be just fine.

Drabek is going to be absolutely awesome for many years for the Jays. I look forward to watching him pitch, love the kid. Best of luck.

corrrrrrrect! Romero was on zero top mlb prospects lists... and the overwhelming majority had grown disinterested in him and his prospects of making the MLB team, let alone reaching his potential...

mike_noodles

Well he looked good despite taking the loss, he really does have some nasty stuff to go with that 95 MPH fastball (which also has nice movement).
