I say right now its a virtual lock, that if he comes back next season he gets to 600. I hope he plays 2 more years, because he is really the ultimate throwback ballplayer. What uniform will he be wearing for his chase next season?

He's stated before that he's really loved being in Minnesota and that he would like to come back next year.

My guess is that his agent and the Twins management will sit down to discuss his salary requirements after the playoffs are over. If an agreement can be reached, it will be reached early in the off-season. If nothing is announced by Thanksgiving, he'll likely be going to another team than the Twins.

If the Twins win the world series, he's retiring.

Looks like it's a few more years for Thome then....:p

(Joking by the way don't take any offense to it)

I wasn't saying the Twins are going to win it all, I just added that retirement is also an option.

It'd be pretty cool if he played 2 more years with a contender trying to win a world series getting 300 or so at-bats. And then in 2013, once Hafner's contract expires, he plays his final year back with the Indians.

Oakland??? seems like the kind of 'cheap' DH they could run with...

Jim Thome is pulling a 2009 Brett Favre. Despite only 300 PAs, he's having one of the best seasons of his career....at 40.

More power to him. I just wish he could have hit some of these HRs for the Dodgers last year.
