One of my ball sites just posted a list of potential M.I.P. candidates, who do you think will rise to the top this season?

derozen

I want to be a homer and say Jrue Holiday, but I went with Collison. Even if he doesn't improve his per minute stats much, getting starters minutes for a whole year will make him take a leap in his totals and get a lot more credit.

those are all pretty darn candidates but bargnani could probably be on that list...all his numbers will go up (except for probably the percentages which are already solid).

but i think it'll be mcgee or derozan.

Bob_at_york

I don't think the guy is a star or anything but I picked Hickson because on the Cavs team, he will get a lot of points and rebounds... somebody has to.

09-07-2010, 09:55 AM
If Anthony Randolph gets the minutes he'll have a strong case I think.

Players like Collison, DeRozan & Hickson have a great chance because of the bigger role they'll take on. More minutes and more shots usually equates to bigger numbers and I think the MIP voting is based pretty much purely on numbers.

I think Darren Collison will have a great season. He did a good job wile CP3 was out + Pacers did have a decent/good PG in a while ... He`s a candidate for MIP, in my eyes

wesso2008

Everyone on that list minus Warrick has the potential to be M.I.P. But if i hadta choose a top-3, i'd go with Collison, DeRozan, and Randolph.

Al Jefferson plays great defense?

As a Net fan, I'll go with Terrence Williams.

I'd prefer it to be Brook Lopez.

Not to be a homer but Javale McGee just got Gilbert Arenas back, John Wall, Josh Howard back, Andray Blatche back, Kirk Hinrich, and not enough behind him to steal his minutes. I think he has as much of an opportunity as anyone to win most improved player.

i am not sure why but for some reason i am high on Sonny Weems. he won't win the most improved player award tho that's for sure. but he can become a good player in this league.

he'll get plenty of minutes backing up salmons at the 2. maggette & delfino will primarily play the 3 in our offense so that leaves minutes at the backup 2. i just think that he's gonna have a great season coming off the bench.

What about Ersan Ilyasova? Doesn't he play some SF too? Also this isn't even taking into account that Redd will come back at some point this season. I am not saying that that CDR isn't going to get ANY playing time but I don't see him getting enough that he will be in the conversation for this award.

Ilyasova plays PF but I do agree that CDR won't get many mins because Delfino will prolly play some 2 and 3. It depends how deep Skiles wants his rotation to be really...

Didn't they just sign Drew Gooden to play PF? Don't they still have luc mbah a moute who also plays both forward positions? I am not sure Ilyasova will play that many minutes at PF.

Yea true I was gonna say that thye could use mbah a moute at SF so he can defend opposing wing players but i forgot that Delfino will play backup SF. I never noticed how deep the roster was.

No, When he was drafted his vertical was 38 inches. Hes 28 years old now.

he's not 30 yet. i'd say he's in his prime. either way he is still freakishly athletic and long. there is something to be said about 4 year college players not deteriorating as fast as highschool draftees or one and done college players. what is your argument anyways, that he can't jump as high as when he was drafted?

edit: watch his top 20 plays of last season. then tell me he can't jump at the age of 28.

That he doesn't have the highest vertical in the NBA, and at 28 years old I doubt hes more athletic now then he was a few years ago

If he gets a starting spot at some point, James Harden.

Non-homer pick, I'd have to give it to Kevin Love. He's going to flourish with Jefferson gone.

I'm def going with a homer pick and saying Randolph, but have another one for you in Raymond Felton. Playing in D'Antoni's system with Amare, Randolph, Gallo, Chandler, Azubuike (when healthy), Felton will have a breakout season. My non-homer pick is Steph Curry. I think even though he had a terrific rookie season, he will make big strides this year.

09-07-2010, 07:01 PM
Darren Collison hands down. The Pacers are his team now and Im glad that he has a chance to lead a team as the main pg and not have to worry about Chris Paul taking the spotlight.

Derozan's number will sky rocket now that Bosh and Hedo are gone.

Randolph will be just another inconsistent PF thats very athletic but has no basketball IQ like Tyrus Thomas. But then again, undisciplined basketball his welcomed in D'Antonis system so he might put up some big #'s there if he can get some PT and if he stays healthy for once.

Basically for Al Jeff to get MIP beating the others on this list would mean he'd have to become almost superstar level. He is alreay and all-star caliber player.

My Favorites are Collison, TWill, and DeRozan.
Guys with solid chances I'd say Randolph and Hickson.
Guys with an outside chance I say McGee and Warrick (he does have Nash now...)

I could see Bargnani jumping up into the 24 point range for sure ... and if he stays on the floor for 35+ minutes a night the rebounds could be there too.

The only other factor is that no one will care that much if the Raptors aren't winning ... we'll see.

A little bit of a homer pick but im going with T Will. At the end of the year in March, he averaged 14.1 pts, 6.7 rebounds, and 5 assists. In April, he averaged 14 pts, 7 rebounds, 6 assists. Now that he has a good coach in Johnson, better players and good shooters around him he should do much better. No doubt Derozan, Collison, and Randolph have great seasons but im going to go with T Will as the most improved player.
