I dont know if a thread like this was posted before, and if it was then i am sorry. So yeah the title says it all, who do you think is the TOP big man of the decade? I think its basically between Tim Duncan and Shaq. This should be a close one.

I think that if you take power, and domination in the post - Shaq wins it
But if you take mid range shooting, defense, and a LEADER - Tim wins by FAR

Tim Duncan. Shaq was the most dominant the first 3 to 4 years but Duncan stayed consistently dominant the entire decade.

Timmy D. He won 3 rings this decade, 2 M.V.P.'s and 2 Finals M.V.P.'s.

Overall I would take the Big Fundamental, Timmy. Shaq had the luxury of three MVP caliber scoring superstars for his teammates. 4 if you count Nash.

Kobe is up there but c'mon, Duncan was the best players of the 00s.

Also even though it was 1999 Timmy got his first ring sweeping Shaq enroute to his first championship. He was a winner before Shaq. They are currently tied 3 to 3 against each other in the playoffs.

Duncan all the way! Duncan's team remained a contender because of him at the end of the decade. By far a better leader who didn't hurt teams eventually like Shaq had a habbit of doing

Now doubt Tim Duncan was the more gifted player and better team leader.

However, "best big man" has to do with dominance. No one was more dominant than Shaq in this decade. Not even Tim.

This has to be Shaq. Tim is a close second.

If asked the question, who would you build a team around in 2000 the answer has to be Shaquille O'Neal. It has to be.

Shaq only dominated this decade from 2000-2003/4, Timmy has been a factor for the entire decade.

Overall careers, Shaq > Duncan in my opinion, but this decade Timmy wins it.

Why do you say that?

Duncan has two MVP's to Shaq's one.
Duncan has two Finals MVP's to Shaq's three.
Duncan has three NBA Championship Rings to Shaq's four.
Duncan has never missed the playoffs.
Duncan's team has never won less than 50 games. (Except for the strike year, but that doesn't really count because they would have.)
Duncan has continued to dominate late into the decade.

Shaq has a few more accolades, but it's not like he blows Timmy-D out of the water, and everything else points to Duncan having the superior career.

Duncan remained consistent throughout the whole 00's decade.

Shaq had years of domination early on and won another title mid year.

It's a really tough comparison but both have the same amount of titles and Finals MVP.

Later years, it was evident Shaq's production decreased and is a shell of his former self meanwhile Duncan is still up there with the best of them and many still have him top 10 so my vote goes to him.
