View Full Version : The Face of a Franchise!

I found this question on a blog and it is a great topic for a conversation.

"Who’s the first player you think of when you think of team “X”? That’s what this post is all about – not who was the best player in the history of the team and franchise, but who do you think of when you think of… you get the point."

- Chicago Bulls - Michael Jordan
- Atlanta Hawks – Dominique Wilkins
- Boston Celtics – Larry Bird
- Detroit Pistons – Isiah Thomas
- Houston Rockets – Hakeem Olajuwon
- Indiana Pacers – Reggie Miller
- Milwaukee Bucks – Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
- New York Knicks – Patrick Ewing
- Philadelphia 76ers – Allen Iverson
- Portland Trail Blazers – Clyde Drexler
- San Antonio Spurs – Tim Duncan (sorry Admiral)
- Utah Jazz – Stockton & Malone
- Los Angeles Lakers – Kobe Bryant (sorry Magic and Jabbar - Five NBA rings with two Finals MVP awards and being the Lakers’ all time leading scorer...)

Who else can you think of or debate these picks.

Most of these are fine, I just wonder about the Lakers. I understand if people would say if Kobe is the face of the franchise; I have no problem with that. It's just you're reasoning. "Five NBA rings and two finals MVP awards." Magic has five rings, three finals MVP's and three league MVP's. Just saying.

Also, I wouldn't say Iverson is the face of the Sixers franchise. In the modern era, yeah, but not all time. That goes to Wilt or Dr. J, still.

Well realistically it'll change based off of other people's preferences, but for me it's definitely Gary Payton.

Bill Walton could be said for the blazers. He did lead the blazers to the only championship in the franchise's history

BlazingJ
09-01-2010, 04:35 PM
Oh and for for the 76ers, I'd say Dr. J cause he led his team to the most championships. Wilt was probably the greatest individual player they ever had though..

I get ya there, but the 2 I think of when I hear Suns, are Barkley and Nash, and I plumped for Barkley.... It was exceptionally close though I must say.

Why are people disagreeing with each other here? This thread is about individual opinion--"Who do you think of when you think of X franchise?" NOT the BEST player in the franchise history. Totally different subject.

For blazers: Sam Bowie.

This is my honest answer for this thread but he is no where near the best player of the blazers franchise.

exactly... I was an interview with Ray Allen and KG on Jimmy Kimmel, where they said that Russell is the guy every Celtic wants to emulate. They said he and his spirit are all over the organization, and he is the cornerstone.... You dont get more of a face than that. Bird would have wet dreams over Russells career....

Sorry, but thats how I see it. I think of Bosh first when I think of Raptors, thats why I put him down. It was very close with them though, I did think of putting VC down, but I follow my reasoning
