Celtics will sign free agent guard Delonte West. West will have to sit out first ten games due to suspension for guilty plea on gun charge

Good signing for the C's, he will be suspended for the first 10 games though.

With T. Allen gone and with the C's drafting Bradley & bringing back Nate, Delonte will likely see a lot of time at the 2.

Helps them against Miami, but they needed a backup PG for sure, Nate Robinson can't really run the offense when Rondo is out.

I think the phase of "shock and disbelief" is over, now it's just vent up anger and the closest Delonte will get to stopping Lebron will be something like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQ_x_RKUY3s (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQ_x_RKUY3s)

This is a solid replacement for Tony Allen. And at the minimum too? No brainer.

This is his 2nd go round with the Celtics also, so he should have chemistry with Pierce.

This does not mean he is going to be on our team for the season. He is signing a non-guaranteed deal, which means we will have 17 players on our team, and 2 will have to be cut for the regular season. He will join Oliver Lafayette and Tony Gaffney in training camp as the 3 players with non-guaranteed deals.

From Chris Forsberg (ESPN) Twitter: Link (http://twitter.com/espnforsberg)

Ainge said there's still room for Gaffney & Lafayette to compete for jobs: "We'll keep the best players."

Jermaine O'Neal, Glen Davis, Shaq (will be on bench when Perk is back), Daniels, Wafer, Robinson, West, Bradley, Harangody... thats 14 men (13 until Perk comes back).... I expect probably Robinson, West, or Wafer to be released before the start of the year.. Bench has 3 bigs, 2 SFs, and 4 PGs..... oh god

Teams carry 15 players in the regular season, with 2 inactive for every game. We now have 17 players under contract. There are 3 who are non-guaranteed: Delonte West, Tony Gaffney, and Oliver Lafayette. Two of them will be cut after training camp, to get the roster to 15.

I was wondering about their back up small forward? Who is it Daniels? They seem thin at that spot and the 2. Bradley and West if they play the 2 spot are pretty small, so we'll see what happens.

I like the pickup in general though, just incase Rondo goes down. I think this is insurance more than anything.

That's like saying you have the best baseball team because of your utility infielder, 4th outfielder, and long reliever...

You don't make much sense at all, comparing basketball to baseball. With only 5 guys on the court at once, your depth is huge. Baseball players usually always play a full 9 innings, so obviously a team's 4th outfielder doesn't mean much.

Damn Celtics are no joke this year. First they get Shaq to distract and piss off Kobe then they get Delonte for Lebron. This could go one of to ways for them great or horrible bad. Kobe can see it as more motivation to beat them, or he could let Shaq get in his head like Kobe you oly realy have two rings the first three are mine hahahaha. Same with James he can see it as motivation or be consumed in Delonte momma jokes defence. Can you imagine Lebron coming down court and he hears your moms sucks, realy she does. Or for Kobe, hearing two rings, two rings. As an Lakers fan i think the Celtics could have ****ed themselves out of an ring.

To bad the Celtics are current Eastern Champs. And still the favorites until we get knocked off.

House over West? lol

West's 3 point shooting is 37.3% while House's is only a few points higher at 39.0%

But unlike House, Delonte has ball handling skills, plays defense, and isn't a "chucker"

House is a one sided player good for spreading the floor. West can do it all

Bad analogy... bench players in baseball may not take the field in a game or step in only for one at-bat, or one pinch run.

The bench has a HUGE impact in basketball for every single game because the bench is rotated in regularly. It's an even bigger impact for the Celts because they have aging superstars that they'll want to keep fresh -- play dominant for 20 to 30 minutes a game and use the strong bench for the rest of the minutes.

Miami is still the favorites out of the east and I'll take Eddie House over West anyday...

You're all alone on this one.

House 09/10 FG% = 38%
West 09/10 FG% = 44%

You don't make much sense at all, comparing basketball to baseball. With only 5 guys on the court at once, your depth is huge. Baseball players usually always play a full 9 innings, so obviously a team's 4th outfielder doesn't mean much.

And that got him and the Cavs how far the last two times he met Pierce and the C's in the playoffs?

I know i'm dealing with a homer, so i'll be gentle to you...

LeBron lost because no else could nail a shot and they triple teamed him the whole series...

Pierce never defended LeBron alone because it didn't make sense to do so...

The Celtics no longer have that option because the Heat have three allstar players that can take over a game...

Pierce will be forced to defend LeBron one on one or be his primary responsibility in a zone... Either way, LeBron is going to destroy those defenses... Either by passing it out of a double team while the celts are in a zone or breaking down Pierce one on one...

This isn't the Cavaliers anymore... As much as you want to be a homer and defend the undeniable, it doesn't make much sense to think that the Celtics can hold the Heat to under 110 points a game in a playoff series...

As for the baseball reference, it makes perfect sense... How do you expect to win a series when the guys playing the majority of the minutes aren't half as good as the guys you are playing against...

Where's the advantage of having depth if you are already down 20 by half time because the starters couldn't compete with the other teams starters...

Depth is fleeting anyway and 95 % of the time, depth is gone because of injuries... The idea behind having depth is that when the bench comes in, they can still play quality minutes... If the other teams starters have staked the bench to an advantage before they come in, it isn't going to matter much...

It's a good thing to have during the regular season, but it isn't going to matter when they face the Heat in the conference finals...

Not everything has to turn into a debate about the Miami Heat.

Grow the **** up.
