It's a simple question
when did you start watching basketball? or what made you want to watch basketball? were you always watching basketball?

For me it was the year the Toronto Raptors had that great season I believe it was the 2006-07 season. Even though I played basketball I never really watched it. You can learn a lot by just watching some1 like kobe. (his footwork)

1998 after the first time I player NBA Live for the PlayStation. Well that was when I became a die hard NBA fan (at the age of 9). Of course I was a casual fan before but at the age of 6,7,8 I really didn't appreciate the game as much as I did when I got a little older. :D

1988. My grandpa was a fan of the old Minneapolis Lakers, so he passed it onto my dad, who in turn passed the love of the Lakers onto me. When I got older, I appreciated the Lakers more, and learnt more on basketball. I have always admired the TWolves as well, as being from St Paul, MN (even though I lived East until I was 27), they gave me chances to see live basketball, but I am Lakers all the way. 22 years and counting..... I was 8 in '88, and adored Magic. And that Championship team of 88.... Worthy, Magic, Abdul-Jabbar, and Byron Scott bringing another ring to LA. Man, brings back memories....

Just stayed with the NBA and the Lakers since, even though I am also a massive NFL fan.

I started watching in 1987, MSU Spartans and Pistons. Both teams were very good at the time, and a lot of fun to watch. I was lucky in that throughout those first four years I was a fan, I got to experience the lowest of lows (robbed by Bird) and the highest of highs (back-to-back, *****es).

1962, when Wilt was went west with the Warriors.

I was a SF Giants fan (having followed them in NY), and I started hanging out with guys that played basketball.

Naturally, I immediately hated the Celtics. and (because of their fans) the Knicks.

I would have to say it was the 1990 blazer team. I must of been 6 years old. I really got all the concepts of the game by the sonic team with kemp and Payton. I liked that team a lot but i will always be a die hard blazer fan. And no I was not a fan of the bulls during that time period they knocked the blazers out in 92.

I started watching basketball around the 4th grade consistently(when the Lakers were winning championships in the early 00's). The San Antonio Spurs were actually my favorite team when I first started watching due to Tim Duncan.

Before all of that though, I was a "neutral fan" of the Bulls because of MJ and his movie Space Jam. I seriously don't know of anyone my age who will say they weren't a fan of MJ because of the movie Space Jam.

Probably about 1990. My most vivid early basketball memories are of watching the end of the Showtime Lakers, Jordan and the Bulls absolutely mowing through the playoffs to his first ring, and then the original Dream Team.

Watching that Dream Team 18 years ago - when I was 7 - is to this day the most fun I've ever had watching television.

Growing up in central California in the 80s Lakers were always on TV. This was before we had cable I only had maybe 5 -6 channels. My dad wasn't an NBA fan, but I couldn't help getting into the Showtime Lakers. The rivalry with the Celtics and the championships just added fuel to the fire.

Started as a casual fan following the Timberwolves, and NBA (playing NBA Jam, Live, etc as well) since 1995-96. The Garnett era, along with me being about 9 years old got me into it. My first game I went to was in 96, Marbury's rookie year, and it was against Iverson's 76ers... Marbury was then my favorite player :p.

I got hardcore into the Wolves during the 2002-03 season, were I rarely miss a game, and started following the entire NBA a lot closer then as well. We didnt have cable at my house then, so I would go over to my grandma's house every Wolves game to watch. I love my grandma. :)
