Hey guys, Some of you may remember that for the last two years I have conducted a poll at the end of the season that had PSD users vote for the top 10 players at each position. Its is now that time to vote! I would like to start this up once more considering the NBA season is now over and we can get to this discussion since lots has changed since the start of last season. Please TRY AND VOTE FOR THE BEST PLAYER AND DON'T BE A HOMER. I will leave the poll open for one day and than we can carry on to the next best player at that position. I will add more players after each round. I have also included the results of those last 2 years so everyone can see how much things have changed...Enjoy.

REMEMBER this is based on who is the best player, not the player who has the potential to be the best.

SF Rankings DONT FORGET TO VOTE!!

Ron Artest did anyone watch the finals or the first round of the playoffs against two of the best scorers in the game? Ron made them work for everything they hated life with Ron gaurding them, there isn't anyone on this list that could have done that well

Went Deng. It's pretty tough to make a compelling argument for either him or Gay ahead of the other. They're a wash - but I like the way Deng plays in an offense more so than Gay, and I think he's more committed on the defensive end.

Him having the better simple rating on 82games will be the final determining factor for me:

Deng = +5.8
Rudy = +4.7

I picked Butler too. Mostly because I expect Gay to win and would like to see Butler in the conversation for the next couple spots.

Too bad that last year doesnt count in that 3-4 range. He flat out sucked

While Gay does have more upside Deng right now is the more valuable/underappreciated player. I went Rudy though expecting an suprising imporvement from him next season.

I'll go against the grain and make an argument for Deng. Better at every other aspect of the game then Gay besides scoring. And Gay is a high volume scorer anyway, meaning he needs a lot of shots to be effective. A high volume scorer should only be someone who can lead your team to a title (I.E Bryant, Durant, James, Wade) Gay doesn't reach that level.

I went Artest his Defense and Exp at least net him 8 SF in the League this should be close between him and Gay.

Deng by a longshot, and its all because of defense. Anyone here who argues Gay plays defense will get no reply from me on this subject, because its not even worth the damage to my fingers long term, to type a response

Agreed about Deng - overall he's the better player than Rudy (defense/ability to play better within an offense. Gay has a slight case of Monta Ellis syndrome) - but Rudy's hype and tomahawk jams win PSD over (called this trouncing coming in the last thread, it's not surprising).

Funny thing is that Rudy was better in his sophomore season at 21 than he is now. Just one of those guys who relies on his athleticism, and doesn't seem to possess the work ethic to get better.

Mm nah, he wasn't. He had no 3pt range then (which is something he can use if he has to now), and I think he's become a much more reliable defender. Rudy's literally not improved at all - and at that become a worse 3pt/FT shooter while showing zero improvements defensively.

I watched Rudy and the Grizz a lot last season, and he just doesn't play within an offense well (neither does Mayo, which is why they tried to ship him out of town). I'll put it this way: the guy is pretty damn fortunate to get that kind of contract in contrast to the work he's put in over the past few years.

deng was a better Defender in 06-07. He still isn't that good of a 3 point shooter, only shot 83 three pointers last year. He was a beter defender and offensive player in 06-07. He was also more efficient in 06-07.

I disagree his stats are pretty close to his soph season standings but they were a 22 win team that season... To me the numbers he put up on a 40 win team is more impressive... For part of last season they were in the hunt for the 8th seed...and they were actually a decent team instead of being scrubs like they were every other season.. If Gay didnt have mayo, randolph, or Gasol (just 1 of them missing im saying) I bet Gay would be putting up Granger scoring numbers... True Gay has to get better on D, but he improved a little this season on D and he is probably the best 4th best sf offensively behind lbj, durant, and melo imo

So what have we seen so far?

Most of the seasoned/most credible posters on PSD (eg Hawkeye, Chronz and tredigs to name a few) all went Deng. Most Laker fans said Artest while we know Gallo is getting the votes of the NY fans. Yet Rudy is leading.

I personally chose Rudy because I believe he has more upside than Deng at this point in their careers. Neither of them is going to be the best player on a contending team or anything like that but Rudy may be good enough to be a #2. Not necessarily on a title contending team but certainly a playoff contender. IMO as great as Deng's D is it not as much of a game changer as Rudy's potential (note said potential) offense. Put it this way Rudy (potential) offense can win a team more games than Deng D and otherwise stellar play. I'm basing my case however on the belief that Rudy will be able to take his game up a notch.

Truth is, the main reason I took Deng is because I knew Rudy would win this one in a blowout, and I wanted to choose Luol and make the (valid) argument that he is arguably as good or better than Gay - and the two should be thought of as equals. Rudy gets too much credit/Deng not enough (especially from many Bulls fans I've seen on here who consider Rose to be "alone on that team with no offensive help"). If Rudy Gay was on the team with Rose, don't think many people would make that argument for Rose, when in reality the two (Gay/Deng) are interchangeable.

I actually like Rudy a lot tho', and am going to enjoy watching him posterize an unsuspecting Spanish power forward about one week from now.

Very Very true... I see Deng as being one of the most under-appreciated players in the entire NBA. His game isn't as flashy/polished sa Rudy's or some of the other SFs listed and for that reason a lot of fans may not respect his game as much as they would say Iguodala or Rudy.
