I got a rule about steals and busts:
The Spurs always get a steal, so however they drafted is going to be good because they never fail to pick up talented players in the draft. So James Anderson?

And the bust will be whoever Minny picked, because their GM is awful. So Wesley Johnson. Sorry Wesley, I've never seen you play bro, but one of the worst GMs in the league picked you, so I gotta go with my formula.

I just hope Greg Monroe works out for Detroit and Ed Davis works out for the Raptors, because otherwise I will have no good news this year for the teams I root for :-(

And if you want to take that route...they drafted Mayo for that trade to happen. Hardly a bust either...trade or not that draft was going to be good for them.

Poor Hawkeye...I thought I had it rough being a Pacers fan.

The pacers 2 second round draft picks are definitely steals. Not sure you can call George a steal since I don't see him being worthy of more than the 10 pick (just because he could easily be in the bust category). Maybe in 5 years we can look back and say he was worthy of going 5th. Or maybe we look back and wonder why he was drafted.

Also...Stephenson is a steal...but maybe not for the Pacers. Still a strong chance he gets released because of the legal issues (anyone heard an update on this?)

Also I'd call Flynn on the verge of a bust. In a draft with so many clutch pg's, flynn's not in the same class. He has moments, but gotta step it up. But Rubio was looking pretty good yesterday huh. Good luck Minn.

I got to go with Ed Davis. He fell farther than he should of in the draft. He was easily a top 10 talent and he had a great summer league. I really do expect big things from him.

Paul George while have unreal potential could very well be a bust. Having no D1 experience is a concern in my mind.

you can't evaluate it that way. He was productive as a rookie, regardless of how many other PG's played. A bust is someone who doesn't live up to expecations. You can't blame Flynn for coming out in the year of PG's

That's my point. Because of the pacers history it's going to be VERY hard to justify keeping him. He's a steal but there's a very solid chance he's a steal for another team that picks him up after we drop him. I hope not.

Trust me...I know all about rooting for a "loser", the last 5 seasons.

It's a good feeling though. To love a team and stick by it. Rather than you know...being a "die hard" fan of a team since WAAAAY back in July. I won't go any further with that...you get me.

I got the Colts too so it's ok.

Steal = Gordon Hayward. I wouldn't have said that right after the draft, but since, Utah added Jefferson and Raja and lost Matthews. Hayward could become a star since he's on a stacked team, with great complimentary players in a great system for him.

Bust = Favors. I just get the feeling that the Nets were a bad fit for him.

Paul George while have unreal potential could very well be a bust. Having no D1 experience is a concern in my mind.

He could honestly go either way at this point. I think he's 50/50 bust or star. I don't think there will be much in between. He has the physical tools. He will either get it or not get it. I'd be scared to label him as either a bust or steal at this point.

A guy like Hassan Whiteside is a bit easier to label as a bust (sorry fans). He also has the physical tools but seems to lack the intangibles to GROW into that potential. That's the most important thing about potential...it usually means physical tools are there...they just have to become basketball smart. I'm not sure if he's capable.

Hawkeye15

I predict Whiteside is out of the league in 5 years or less. He will be terrible, given a couple chances to due his "upside", and then be gone

Steal - Greg Monroe. He was picked pretty early so it's hard to call him a "steal" but I think he's gonna be a great player. Watched him a lot at Georgetown, he's a special talent.

Well when his biggest need is to grow his basketball IQ and become a smarter player, it is VERY discouraging to find out that he has a pretty arrogant attitude and is quite frankly pretty dumb. To me that sounds like a recipe for NOT growing into a smart basketball player. If he learns the NBA systems I will be surprised. He'll survive on athletics alone for a while then go away quietly.

I agree he could be nice but side note:

We should totally adapt the "no homo" saying to "no homer" for these boards.

Someone wants to pick their team or player for every award...just leave "no homer" at the bottom of your post.

Hell, some people could just put it in their sigs because it applies to everything they post.

Steal: Luke Harangody (2nd round, 52nd pick) who showed unexpected 3-point range in summer league, something coach Doc Rivers didn't even know he had:

"I don't know [his role], hell he's a rookie, but he can play, I can tell you that," said Rivers. "He can shoot the ball and stretch the floor. He shot the ball extremely well in summer league from behind the NBA 3-point line, which I didn't know he could do, honestly, watching him in college. I didn't know he had the range."

If he can give us anything off the bench in his first year, this will be a major steal. A strong rebounding 3/4 who can shoot from long range could be a huge asset.

Ed Davis could be a steal considering most mock drafts had him going a lot higher. But I'll not be a homer, choose someone else.

Steals:
Hassan Whiteside is definitely a guy you have to look at as a steal. Jay Bilas said it best. He's a reward risk guy in the first round but as a second round pick, he's all reward.

I also like Devin Ebanks. Another guy who I thought would go in the first round. Has the tools to be a defensive stopper in this league.

As for Bust, I'm not a big fan of Greg Monroe.

Agree with your bust pick.

Your steal f'd up by showing his true colors and the reason for which he fell. Pacers should cut him and no one should pick him up - the league can't stand for this.

My new steal of the draft is... Paul George. Some of you will say the tenth pick is not a steal but if he actually becomes a top 5 talent (of this draft) like I believe he will, I would call that a steal.

Well, he had a poor summerleague (by 2nd pick standards).

I think he will be a good player, but he is the player in the top 5 I expect in a few years will be "re-drafted" down at least to 6th or 7th. He was not a great pick for your team - imo. Should've taken Favors.
